In this episode of HUNTR Podcast, we bring on Bill Thompson of Spartan Forge to talk about his mission in the hunting industry. Bill is just as passionate about chasing mature whitetails as the next guy, and has taken e-scouting to a whole new level with Spartan Forge. This software not only shows UAV imagery and 3D maps, but introduces a new way of reading terrain features with Lidar. With that comes the all new AI Cyber Scout feature where you can learn pretty much anything under the sun about hunting. We often discuss how the modern technology of hunting has impacted us as a community in a negative way, but with Spartan Forge, that's not the case. Sit back, relax, and enjoy this episode as we absorb the wealth of knowledge Bill shares with us today!

The breakdown of the family and traditions was the most significant comment made in this entire 5 hours. You can have all the secrets to the hunt in the palm of your hand but nothing can replace family and friends bonding and creating traditions that become stronger than the hunt itself. Technology can only get you so far. Some of those old timers would put us to crying shame in the woods with thier experience and knowledge that no amount of technology could outmatch.

Jeremy, I think you made a very good point at 01:11:40 when you say that 99% of deer/wildlife research publications very make it to the hunting community. Coming from the background that you have can you start to make a change in this. I know that I would love to be able to read about what is actually being looked into by people at university or state organizations that are asked to help manage wildlife populations not just whitetail deer. I just don’t really know where to start looking and unfortunately time doesn’t allow me to search for it. Thank you for what you and Jeremy have been doing with this Podcast!!!! If you ever feel you want a hard working PA Bow Hunter to join you in KS I have a lifetime license and I am always looking for a group that needs an extra set of hands!!

I have to be honest, when I saw 5hrs my eyes glazed over like I was back in 8th period history, but it was good!! I watched the whole thing. Good or lucky? The Viking in me says it’s all destiny. When you come together with that animal it’s like it was meant to be.

5 hours is crazy! But entertaining the whole way through, Jared said that your going to need E-scouting or whatever it’s called from spartan forage if you listen to the meateater podcast. I know you guys referenced them before and it seems like you don’t like there podcast very much? I’m a big first lite guy I think the gear is great but I’ve listened to maybe an hour worth of there podcast or trivia game because it’s boring AF.

I am not a fan of firearm deer season but dang are the straight wall cartridges the berries for the kids. I'm so tired of trying to find and paying big money for slugs. I love em despite hating the season. So glad you can't bait in IL and crossbows are for hunters who are afraid of failure and need a crutch.

One warning I'd like to share with the hunting community is that most of the apps that claim to have property ownership boundaries are inaccurate. I've tested a lot of these apps on my own property and these apps boundaries are never accurate and can be off by 200 yards or more. There's a simple reason they are not accurate, most of them are using County Plat maps because that information is free. The problem is that County Plat maps are not legal reliable boundary providers, they are only and estimate and their fine print will say they are not legal. The only legal and accurate boundary information is a legal survey which are not free. It appears the map apps have chosen the cheap inaccurate route instead of paying for accurate information. In the multiple States I bow hunt in if you shoot an animal on someone else's private land, you will be charged and prosecuted for poaching and the penalties could not only be losing the animal, but also all your equipment, your vehicle and future ability to buy a hunting license in many States and the fact you relied on unreliable software won't matter. I bet if you read the fine print with any of the boundary apps, you'll find a disclaimer they are not responsible for the accuracy of the boundaries in their software. As a landowner you should also be concerned because hunter's and hikers could be hunting and trespassing on your land using anyone of these inaccurate mapping apps.

We pay over 100k a year plus 2 pf our own employees for our property data and we go to great efforts to make accurate and usable. Doing it for every property in the US is a difficult and large task for a small start up but we are doing it. Spartan also doesn't use an free plat resources.

@@williamjthompsonjr Thank you for your reply. It's refreshing and exciting to hear someone is not using County Plat Maps. I haven't tested your Maps and look forward to doing so.

@kevinsnyder8508 I am not saying the companies we pay don't use them. Often we are sending physical hard drives to counties to get the information. As we are around longer this process will get better as we have alot to learn but what separates us from our competition is we don't charge for it. We are trying to enable everyone to go and hunt.

Always a treat to hear the military is where corporate job culture was derived. FML. 35 minutes in and I’d almost be okay to be reminded of how much better Ohio could be removing the “easy button hunters”. Lol Random ass thought- when the birthday boy mentioned his camp the idea popped it could be cool to see a “hunting camp” or “treestand” setup series with you guys, or your guests, since it won’t be a cell cam on the leg of blind facing a corn pile 👍🏻 Thanks for what you all do (aside from slinging slaw topped sandwiches).

You guys might be good deer hunters but on average the people who come from PA can't hunt for shit. Can't blame em for shooting 3 year old 120s they don't see that shit but they trample through the woods like they're deer driving
