In this episode of HUNTR Podcast, the guys open up discussion by reviewing the recent changes for trail cameras in Iowa. We often talk about the "grey areas" when it comes to hunting laws and regulations, where things aren't clear on what's allowed or how to correctly abide by the standard. We see it with deer recovery, baiting and feeding situations, trail cameras, and more. It's important to talk about these issues so we as hunters can protect ourselves and have clarity for certain situations in the deer woods. Jared and Jeremy also share their recent off-season efforts on their farms, and what to expect as we start to get closer to the bow season. This is the time of year where we're making multiple trips to Illinois, Kentucky, and Ohio and putting the work in for the fall. Whether it's countless hours on the tractor or putting out new tree stands, these are the efforts that pay off when a mature buck is standing in your food plots during the season. Definitely agree with the public land ban on trail cams The problem is people stake there claim find a great spot and load it up with cameras like they own the spot

Hey You might wanna get first hand explanations on the trail camera ban in Iowa. CO Davis from Monroe cty did an appearance on a podcast. His explanation: All trail cameras are banned from use on Iowa public lands. The reason for the ban had nothing to do with fair chase. It was due to existing codes (regulations) that prohibit leaving private property on public land. There are written specific exclusions to this rule such as windows of time that allow specified things to be left for specified times, such as tree stands. Trail cameras are not mentioned in that code, and are therefore banned. The trail camera ban is not a newly written rule/code, it’s the result of a review of all the game codes/rules, and after asking the Iowa AGs office for an interpretation of the existing rule (not leaving private property on public land) and if that includes trail cameras, the AG determined Yes it does. I can send you that video if you wish.

Also, in my opinion I think public land should be managed much differently than private. I agree with no cell cams on public and keeping public as traditional as possible. I wish all states would apply this but with clear black and white wording.

I’d have to listen again but didn’t you guys say you sprayed gly, atrazine and 2-4D then painted switch? Pretty sure with 2-4D you need to wait to plant anything, even switch, otherwise when it germinates it will hurt your switch

I'm fine with no cell cams on public, but I don't understand no trail cameras unattended. That's just stupid. I went and pulled the two I had out yesterday. Pretty depressing honestly. I really enjoy them, don't hunt over them. But it's a big part of my hunting experience

12:17 heres the thing with why wardens dont enforce the stupid laws(no trail cameras no searching for your deer after dark), at least in Pa. This is done, because just like hunters, the game commission and wardens (the law enforcement officers) recognize how stupid and counterproductive some of these laws are. And odds are, they were not involved with writing the law as it exists. They cant just change the law, but they can absolutely make it the prerogative of their law enforcement officers to not enforce laws they recognize as stupid. Which is a good thing for hunters

32:00 who’s job is it to change laws that are clearly stupid and shouldnt be enforced? Politicians in most cases. And their whims are not forecastable (their priorities are constantly changing, typically hunting issues are low on the list)

6:00 minutes in I got one for you so what happens if you're in a tree stand and 500 yards away you got to sell camera and that buck triggers it and you get a picture of it do you not get to shoot that deer now even though you were already actively hunting or sitting in the tree stand because you received a picture of it?!😂

It should be 1 for all or all for none. Anyway u try to cut it it's bullshit and not fair they need to back off. I could think of a handful of things that would benefit our resources, including shortening gun season, cutting back on doe tags, making crossbows, its own 2-week season, etc. The list really could go on sadly...... We got people making dumbass rules that aint out there in the mix. Piss off.....

When it comes to your statement on tree stands, it is in the Iowa hunting regulations book that tree stands can be set up 7 days prior to the hunting season and left for the entirety of the season and then 7 days after. And then I’m unsure where you read the statement about not leaving trail cams on public land overnight. The only mention of the trail cam is to state that cell cams can not be used to actively hunt. I’m wondering if you guys read this somewhere else? Aside from that I very much enjoy your podcasts

for me the only Language not clear in Iowa's statue is can NOT use a cell camera while "ACTIVELY HUNTING" - what's their definition of "ACTIVELY HUNTING" -

Winke puts out corn in mid-September and then doesn't dump any during the season. I think you guys said he runs corn during the season, but doesn't sit near it - that's not true according to decades of his videos, he always dumps it in Sept. and then doesn't run any corn during season. Just lookin' out for him! Lol.

Do cell cams improve possibilities absolutely. I can see in mid west where there are limited trees and cover it being a major advantage, here in the northwestern NC i have ran 3 reveals on 45 acres and yes it helps pattern them but i can still get pics of different bucks on each of the 3 cams . Now someone who could afford to run 15-20 cams would probably have a huge advantage .

On the Iowa cell cam discussion, I watched a video earlier where research showed that Iowa tag purchases went up by 15k since 2018. And the number of buck harvests has not gone up any noticeable amount even since 2020 when cell cams really kicked in

When talking about farm income don't forget your CRP payments are taxed as normal income, so subtract 30 -36% from your CRP income.

In certain counties in MN you can supplemental feed until a week before season. At that point it has to be removed. Then you can start feeding again January 1st. you can not feed of any sort during the season.

Hell my family never owned a car that didn't have all the dash lights/warnings popping no shit. No worries run it and watch it my friend! Lol hell it can be lights with atleast 1 tire with a broken belt at all times and a spare from time to time for a month on her and mucho oil burning chevette,tempo or centra! :( lol Entire family to 3rd cuz 3 cars total no ownership of a single home! Single momma 3 kids by 20 lol the fucking stats I have busted through are thick I think. Sacrifice makes tougher folks so that all has its perks just typically not in success is all. No pity desired just a statement on my agreement of yall talking sacrifice is necessary to have what you prioritize in life if your like us middle class and under sacrifices will be had some greater sone less with various life influences across the board that really tie us all in together fighting the same fight as ameriCANS!

I mean the law is very clear. YOU CANNOT USE A CELL CAMERA TO AID IN A HUNT ON PRIVATE OR PUBLIC. YOU CAN USE THEM FOR SECURITY PURPOSE AND OTHER SITUATIONS BUT YOU CANNOT HUNT A DEER WITH INFORMATION SENT FROM A CAMERA 😂 I mean how is that not clear!

Maybe they should use the fly over regs for cell cams. 24 hours after a picture is sent to you. Idk if that’s the answer but they have to give more detail on the rule.

The reason in certain states it is illegal to hunt over a bait pile is due to the fact that a bait pile compared to a food plot is a pile you can determine a smaller area of which the deer will be. You guys can say that a food plot is different from a corn pile but it’s simply not. as food plot is specifically about feeding the deer to draw them to an area. you can say it’s healthier but corn is very good for deer during the winter to put weight back on. So when you’re in a state that you can’t hunt over a bait pile is it’s to avoid the chance that you can literally spread the corn out in a line and get a broadside shot everytime. That’s the only difference!

I dont care if cameras are allowed or not. I use them but i dont need them. But this is seriously going to affect the name brand huntin shows and i think thats a shame. Unlike the jealous broke ass haters that will never put the effort in those guys do
