A Beach In The Villages? What If You Bought Here And Hated It? 

That me I’m a 100% disabled combat veteran the Vietnam War did change me, coming home I married my childhood sweetheart after 40 years of marriage I lost her to breast cancer. She had hundreds of friend very sociable person, I was the husband of her friends, she had to put up with me for all those years. I’m one of those that eats alone drive around in my golf cart just me. I’m trying to get sociable the VA mental health is working with me. I still love The Villages it’s why I moved here, I joined the singles club, not looking for a relationship or companionship I joined to be able to play golf with someone it’s not fun to play by yourself. I got to stop the on guard thing try to relax more get out of the house more. I’m always afraid to ruin a friendship by my on guard attitude, have more trust in people I found that The Villages is the best place to work on that, Someday I believe it can happen.

Jerry, you’re absolutely right. When you move to this type of community, you have to put yourself out there, join clubs and attend events. I know that’s not easy to do, but it’s worth it.

Hi Jerry and Linda happy Monday! Shortly after we purchased our home, we had a private inspector come in. He found things we never would’ve thought to look for such as our air conditioner unit was not level which would cause the bearings to wear very quickly. There were many other small issues the Village warranty took care of. Our neighbors Found that there were fork truck holes in their roof that were just covered over. The Village warranty department did come in very quickly to fix the problems that our inspector found the inspector also sent his report to the villages warranty department so they were calling us on everything to make appointments to come in and fix . We have the inspector come back just before our warranty was expired to make sure there was nothing else. Money well spent!

It's probably a lot for most people, but my last visit we took a 11-hour cart ride. Started in Monarch Grove, hit all the squares, checked out the historic side of the villages, back down to the new construction & Sawgrass Grove. We stopped to eat, get beers, hit a pool, had lunch, and got on one of the putting courses too. No way you could get a full TV experience in 2 hours. Regarding recycling, sadly, only 5-9% of recyclables actually get recycled. So, it really doesn't matter 😅

Jerry is correct. We just had our home inspected after buying it a year ago. And it was quote a list we turned in. To my surprise, without any questions, they corrected everything in the list. No problems and no bills. Love it and the house is so much better 1 year later. SO yes! Be sure to hire a good inspector shortly before a year is up and you will very happy.

Hi Jerry & Linda! Love your channel! Hubby and I plan to move to The Villages by October, 2024. I am only 53 but my husband is 70. It took a few months to convince him but now he seems to open to it. Can’t wait for our Lifestyle visit and to move there in 2024!

From what I've learned over the years, you should have a home inspection on both new & pre-owned homes. We were visiting the villages last February & was going to Sumter Landing for Mardi Gras but couldn't find parking anywhere. After riding around for 30 minutes we decided to leave.

We always had home inspections in NY. We have a patio lemon tree. We had that fear of moving here. It was a big change from NY. The biggest was leaving friends behind. But social media helps us keep up to date with everyone. My dad comes down to Clermont for the winter. We got the puzzle! Till next time.

I'm sure there will be some people who don't like it. The small lots are a big issue, there are so many that are NOT used to living that close to other people. The intense HOA regulations are another. Not allowing yard ornaments seems really punitive to me. I would feel that it would be more reasonable if they just placed a limit on them, such as 3, or something like that. I know quite a few people that will say "If I'm gonna pay half a million dollars for a house, I'm not going to allow someone else to tell me what I can and can't do with it". Some of us are used to TOTAL fredom... there are 9 states which have no building codes, it's all done at the county level. 102 out of Missouri's 114 counties have no building codes or permitting process, I built my house from start to finish with no permits, no inspections, no zoning regulations, no nothing.

Just want to add to my previous comment that certain items such as scratches in your glass doors or holes in your lanai screen have a very very short window to be repaired. I believe it’s one week after you close on the house.

The crowds in Brownwood and other entertainment venues will only increase based on all the new apartments they are building just outside The Villages in addition to the continued expansion of The Villages itself. Eastport may eventually alleviate some of the crowding albeit temporarily. The growth may be what ultimately causes us to move out of The Villages.

White Castle in Minnesota would have a special Valentin’s Day. The tables would have roses and white table clothes. The menu was the same, but they would deliver your order to your table. You would have to reserve a space. My cheap husband would take me every year to celebrate Valentines Day/our anniversary 🎉

We bought a new home and didn't think to have it inspected, after all, as Jerry mentioned it's new and you usually get a year's warranty to fix any issues . When we sold the home after 10 years there were multiple issues of the kind that don't show up in every day living. One issue was with the stacked stone we had as an extra, it didn't have any weep holes and we had to have that taken care of. (who knew) Issues that you'd never suspect would be a problem. The buyer's inspector caught them all, it was one big pain in the neck. Our Real Estate Agent told us always have your new home inspected, we wished we had.

Meeting people at The Villages is easy peasy unless you are a hermit and don’t leave your home. Every time we go to one of the pools it is easy to strike up a conversation. Met many nice people there. Go to a restaurant and chat with the people next to you or while waiting for a table. Church is an easy place to meet people. There are 3,500 clubs and activities here. Join 1,2, or 3!

Thanks for welcoming us into your home and lives. We are living vicariously thru you. Will be living there in less then 2 years.

We had a life style visit oct 18-25. We loved it from the get go. We rode around in the golf cart and loved the scenery. We played pickle ball and really enjoyed that. Loved even shopping for food in different stores. We rode the bikes every afternoon and with in three days we bought a new house with no plan to buy this visit 😅. Our agent Kacey was amazing! We loved just driving around everywhere in our rental car as well just seeing everything. Then it was back home and a frantic get our horse property on the market. Hoping to sell soon and move maybe by end December.

Hello Jerry & Linda - hopefully that got your attention...My wife Louise and I have been enjoying your videos for a couple years now and have also watched many of the older ones as well. Having just retired and getting tired of the Central Ohio weather, we have been watching Explore 55Plus videos as well as your's. But, to the intent of this comment - although I have only one video on RU-vid under the Everyday Life with the Bensons channel, I have over 500 GB of footage on external hard drives. Most of my footage was shot while I was a concrete mixer driver here in Columbus, Ohio. I stared shooting in 2018 and shot everyday I worked until August 2022. As, we shot footage on vacations and around the home. My first action cam was a GoPro 3 in 2012 for our 11 day Hawaii trip - my son was stationed there as a Coast Guard sailor ( we stayed FREE). And, that GoPro was my one and only !! Terrible battery life, so I went to the Sony FDR -x3000 and bought 2 of them. Most of my footage was shot on those two cameras and I still have them. In 2019 I bought an DJI Action 1 and have never looked back. Then the Action 3 in 2021 and these have been workhorses. I also have the DJI Pocket 2 and just got the Pocket 3. So, I am a little biased, but for good reason - the DJI stuff almost never overheats. but, don't take my word, do a search for comparing the DJI Action cam to GoPro and you will find many results. White Castle slider eating contest in Louisville the day before Thanksgiving in high school brought out big appetites. I won my senior year with 33 beauties in 30 minutes. White Castle hasn't made it to Vietnam yet though!

Great start to a new week! I enjoyed the video of the alligator crossing the path... very cool! I remember seeing so many of them during a trip to SC several years ago and found them amazing to watch. This one was clearly not interested in people. I find wildlife so fascinating! If you buy and hate it, you just sell your house. Folks may also want to consider renting when they first move. That way you can get a good sense of where you spend a lot of time. It's also easier to leave if you rent. Instead of selling your house, you just don't renew your lease.

We saw TWO huge gators in the streets when we were there in May for our lifestyle visit! One was on the run in the northern/Spanish Springs and the other was laying in the median on the way out of Alden bungalows heading to the store. I drove up to Sumter Landing from Orlando November 12th and rented a golf cart. I drove the cart up to Spanish Springs and what an experience! That bridge you cross over Sumter Landing was tight! Manny cart we’re crossing at the same time in both directions and we just about banged mirrors. Lol. We had a good time but now I see that it will take some time to know what you’re doing. Been watching you for sometime now and appreciate all the information.😎
