I have a very Derrick Gee story about hearing Yves for the first time. I was in an art book store in Berlin in 2016 and their music was playing on a Pan compilation.

I honestly cannot express how much I love them so much, they really came at the right time there really no other out there can can't set my heart and brain on fire at the same time. There music really does something to me! I agree with everything you said!

Yves Tumor is the epitome of "Expect the Unexpected" but in an exciting way. I first learned of Yves from following and being a fan of Mykki Blanco. That C-ORE album that Yves Executive Produced was a hard sell to the people around me at the time lol, but I enjoyed it. The importance of an album cover can not be stressed enough. Some of the albums I've been seeing around lately make me think, "And why would I want to listen to this?". I find Yves to be such a glamorous figure that I look forward to seeing what they have in store next. Great Pod Again 🫡 P.S. I remember when C-ORE came out, I read a DAZED article, and it said Yves was from Mariel, Cuba but was raised in Miami and Tennessee. They also listed their name as Rahel Ali. Like you said, they've had so many monikers I don't know what to believe. 😅

Sakamoto is appearing in some capacity on an upcoming Suga (AgustD) song - April 21st. Looking forward to that.

I still remember when I first listened to Serpent Music.. I fell in love instantly-- and Experiencing The Deposit of Faith is so dear to me. I still love the later works but these two projects are just.. so important to me.

Thank you for this introduction to another artist you admire. I do like these ones (much like with Sakamoto) as they're more of an in depth look at some of the background and your connection to the creatives that you reference. If I had this sort of platform I probably would have done a piece on your career so far. *cue Cashley gag* hahaha

No mention of NON Worldwide or C-ORE or Hav Lyfe or Shanti or Alienation Of Affection or the amazing techno EP they released, which like seemed to be what they performed live the most for like two years, or their connection to Hood By Air :( I believe NON was my second real introduction after C-ORE, through the debut of Dajjal and their extensive collaborations with Chino Amobi and Dedekind Cut (both of which I believe were also on PAN at some point) There's even an hour long interview with Chino where Yves is basically just there to as a billboard for NON Not all on you to do, obviously, but it's genuinely so sad how NON has basically been forgotten or ignored despite putting out some of the most revolutionary music and ideas of the 2010s I'm pretty Ryuichi Sakamoto might have even had (brief and distant) ties to the label or artists on it?

Also I would dare to maybe contrast your point of the different types of artists just to throw out that these lines are too transient to be consistent enough to viably use and reduce the impulses of the creators to their career projections, in hindsight nonetheless, referencing back to the 80s like the biggest artist was Madonna, who clearly moved around these borders a lot, you have modern projects like Fall Out Boy that had deep roots in the extreme music world of 90s metallic hardcore, moved on to a very mainstream but simultaneously very niche community, moved onto straight radio pop while still working with people from Weekend Nachos to 100 Gecs, hell you can specifically take Dean Blunt as a huge example of this transience, who obviously has a hand in all worlds simultaneously while participating actively in really none of them, all this to say that depending on their success, obviously someone playing in punk basements, bars and tiny art galleries doesn't think they're Taylor Swift but I think most artists believe that they have delved into each of these sectors in some way unless their career success was immediate and established in a formal business way, I'm sure Ed Sheeran believes there is no real difference between him playing in the street and Fall Out Boy playing in a skate park in 2000 or something
