I will ask you the reverse question to this, namely: Why did I just watch an hour long beginners guide to a game I have never played and never will play? Answer: Because I like this content creator and it's still interesting to learn about this game and why it's so popular, even if I personally have no intention of ever playing it.
@@yunglazerbeam8673 Meaning absolutely no offense to anyone who might be a fan of this game, but this looks incredibly boring and tedious. I don't need to try it to know I will hate it. It's a long, slow and grindy game. I may not have tried this particular one, but I have tried others that have those qualities and I didn't enjoy them. And they had actual nice graphics, so at least there was eyecandy to enjoy. This doesn't even have that. Maybe old school fans enjoy the throwback of these kinds of graphics, but I do not belong to that group. If it doesn't have an interesting story or gameplay that moves at a brisk pace, it's just not for me. I watched a friend play this once and watching paint dry on a wall would have been about just as 'interesting'. I appreciate the hardcore dedication of the fanbase and their insistence that it's a great game, but it's just not for everyone. Some things you don't need to try to know you won't like it. I never tried any of the FIFA games either, but I know for a fact that I would hate the everloving fuck out of them if I did try. It's in a genre I don't like with little to no story, no fast moving gameplay and no other elements I like in my videogames.
I don't know if you'll ever see this, but I want to genuinely thank you for this guide. I had sort of played rs3 blindly when I was a little kid but quickly stopped because my laptop had broken. When this game came out on mobile, like most beginners I quit within a few minutes because I didn't know how anything worked. A few months later I wanted to try again, but this time I looked at a guide and clicked through one or two that I didn't understand, then I came to yours. The information from the guide stuck with me and I've progressed pretty far into the game where I don't have to scrape up money to buy a bond anymore. This game was a life saver, it made me happier, I made new friends playing it, I got some of my real life friends playing it, this is the best game I've ever played. I just wanted to sincerely thank you for making such a well put together guide that helped me progress through the game and become a better person today, even if it's only been like eight months. I love you man, thank you.
I see and read every single comment on every video. You're welcome, i love video games and i wanted to share that love, I'm really glad this has helped and i hope one day youre able to help someone else, keep the cycle going!
Crazy to think how old this game feels for new players because as a little kid who started runescape in 2007 it was the shit, couldn't get enough and mowed lawns and saved allowance for membership that I would actually mail all the way to jagex.
2 years later and know you dont care but there would be potential legal issues with that, if they were to link 3rd party content on their website (such as this video), they would be admitting responsibility to something they don't have any control over which lawyers are scared of also im talking out of my arse
This guide is fantastic. I think the strongest part of the video is that you explain *how* the game works internally, more than the usual “go here and do this when you get to this level”. Also the beginning bit on “is this game for you?” needs to be in more reviews and guides!
For years I've watched Runescape videos on a second monitor while playing an MMO of my own. I've always found the game fascinating and interesting even though I had no clue what was being talked about in any of the videos that I watched. I'm finally sitting down and giving this game a chance. Super excited! Coming from FFXIV with 6800+ hours, this should be a nice change of pace!
@@semajyo9628 here i am sitting and playing as we speak. Im total level 1400 with close to 70's in almost everything. I'm absolutely in love and the grind only grows with every passing day. i still have so much to learn but i sure know a LOT more now than i did 3 years ago!
@@avathewitch99 dude that is fucking awesome. 🔥 and same I’m back on the grind after years of not playing and hooked again. And true there is so much to learn in this game it’s insane. From PVM, PVP, bossing and raids etc. years of content and always something to do/look forward to. Cheers 🥂
Honestly, so happy this exists! This is so needed to bring new players into OSRS! I was watching a guide on how to train your account in mid game, and throughout the video I would pause and look up the item or training method mentioned in the video, but then the thought occurred to me that even though I am coming back to RS after many many years, I have a very solid understanding of the fundamentals and so the game is more inviting than daunting for me. But then I realized that the biggest reason that happened was that because when I started RS my friends played as well and so I was quickly able to learn from them. And imagining myself as an actual newbie in RS made me realize that dammm this is a deep and complex game! And realized that 99% of the OSRS tutorials that exists today on RU-vid are 100% for advanced players, most noobs would not understand any of the reasoning or terminology used in 99% of today's OSRS videos!
A stunningly clear introduction to OSRS, with a very pleasant presentation style. Cannot wait for any other introductions you’ll make for it in the future.
Dropping by just to say this: I wasn't on the New World hype train, but tried it with a few buddies. Maxed a character in a few months. Looked up videos online, saw your coverage of New World's problems, watched a lot of your videos and really liked your style. Then got recommended by friends to try out RuneScape, if I liked the grind. Watched this video, started a character... Maxing this Sunday. Thanks man.
i watched this as a active player knowing most of this already, and still i really enjoyed watching all of is from start to finish, it reminded me of tutorials i had to watch when learning elite dangerous. great to just have on and listen.
I have no words to describe this amazing job that you did. Congratulations on such a great guide, extremly complete with all the infos a newbie need to evolve and actually experience the living world that Old School RuneScape provides to us all. Once again: congratulations!
On and off player since 2008, and I have to say... THANK YOU for telling people to read the quest dialogue. They're incredibly well written and thought out.
This video is over 4 years old. I’ve played RuneScape since 2006. And I learned about moving the camera around by pressing in the mouse wheel from this video here in 2023. Wild.
I've played most MMOs so when I see you doing complete guides to them that break down every single part of the mmo into easy to understand ways, it makes me so happy that there are people like you that exist out in the world. not tryna suck up or get a shout out. I just love what you do for youtube, and I hope you'll be my guide for future MMOs.
This has to be the best guide to any game I have ever seen. Not even game developers put this much time into telling you how to play a game (any type of MMO or other complex games.)
Very thorough, thank you, I know this was probably a pain to put together but it is one of the most solid guides I have seen so I applaud and thank you.
Just discovered this gem of a video looking for something to listen to while doing stuff around the house. Really enjoying it! Note at 12:35. Your weight only affects how quick your run energy depletes, not how fast it recovers. Your agility level does impact the recovery rate though and despite it being a members skill, the recovery rate still works on f2p worlds.
I've played for a few hours a few years ago and decided to check what is going on in the game after a few years. Somehow, I knew one of the tutorials would be me reexperiencing figuring the basics out and specifically this one indeed seemed to potentially be the one, which it was
sometimes you just wanna listen to josh talk for several hours and decide not to rewatch his other playlists for the third time. this'll do XD. love his timbre and tone, love his delivery and pacing, just relaxing.
Just some additional info for the combat system and attack speeds: the attack speed means how fast your next attack will come. It is important to know, especially in pvp. Slow attack speed weapons have a potential to destroy your opponent in 1 hit. But their attack speed is so slow, the enemy hits 2 or 3 times until your next attack. So if you equip a faster weapon, like magic shortbows with rapid attack style, it's attack speed is 3 ticks. After you shot, you can attack again with any other weapon in 3 ticks. So if you shoot with your magic shortbow, then you can equip a ballista and activate it's special attack in the next 3 ticks and shoot a potentially deadly special attack at your enemy. Some special attacks allow you to perform an attack in the next tick, like dragon throwing axes, dragon claws or the granite maul. This means you can potentially stack your opponent out so fast, he will not have time to properly react or eat. But this requires much practice and resources because you will probably die and have to re-buy your gear and supplies, as they are lost on death. The combat system is much more complex than just click and wait.
Most addictive game ever made haha, I have 2b exp in RS3 and just recently started getting back on osrs it just reminds me of all good times I had meeting friends and good people. I just completed Sins of a Father, took me all day, but what a blast! I cant wait to do more quests.
how are you not more well known? your guides and reviews of games are incredibly detailed and spot on! you sir are the top quality content creator we all need! keep making videos and keep up the amazing work :D ive seen so many of your videos, on games i have played (such as RS, since 06) but theyre just well done its fantastic to watch!
Thanks for putting the time and effort into making this guide. I wish this got more views and fully appreceiate the work you've done, I now know a LOT more than I did and am looking forward to progressing in Runescape.
I remember first seeing runescape as a kid at my best friend's house. It amazed me all of what you could do. I never got into online games back then but now as an adult, having this as a quality game on my phone is proving invaluable for my sanity. Thank you for a guide that is both incredibly helpful and doesn't tell me how I should play. Looking forward to all of your content, and have a wonderful day.
Thank you very much for making this video. I've just been hitting trees for so long, and the game is so big I wasnt sure what to do. I appreciate you taking the time to make this. :)
Bruh I've been playing this game for over 10 years and I really enjoyed this guide even though I didn't need it thanks for helping new players I wish i had something like this when first starting out
Thanks to your efforts I'm now happily playing both OSRS and RS3. And pretty much all of your videos are golden, I especially enjoy the worst MMORPGs and history series. Your channel has been the best RU-vid discovery for me in 2021 so far.
This is one of the best "guides" that I have seen for any game. It's easy to follow, full of information, yet it is never overwhelming. At the cost of sounding like a paid actor in an infomercial, "The JSH OSRS Beginner's Guide has changed my life. Thank you, Josh Strife Hayes!" :P
Watching this as a longtime player really makes you realize all of the basic stuff you take for granted. It’s mind blowing when you realize how many of the mechanics and aspects of the game would be alien to new players. Great guide!
I've spent a good portion of my chilling time in f2p worlds in lumby just gor the hell of it, and it made me realize that this game can be really fucking cryptic to new players. I more often than not had to explain how to train att, str and defence respectively, because the game only briefly glances over this aspect if at all. Also the sandbox aspect usually confuses people who are new to mmo's, and they end up confused as to what they should do after tutorial island. The game's great, but it doesn't explain its core mechanics at all.
I've played RuneScape since 2004 and OSRS since release, and I sat through this entire video, even knowing everything you discussed, simply because you did such a damn fine job with your commentary. Very well done!
Some worlds are for specific mini-games / events. World 330 is dedicated to Player owned Houses and, more specifically, guilded altars. These houses also have portals, refreshment pools, fairy rings, and jewelry stands. With just one Teleport to House tab, you have at your disposal a one stop shop for full player regeneration, as well as access to almost every fast travel method in the game!
I have played 2007scape back in high school, but because of my falling grades I decided to stop for my own good. Now that I finally have some time on my hands, I decided to get back into it... and your guide was fantastic for that. Thank you! :)
Fantastic, I too for some reason watched an entire guide on a game I've played for almost 20 years... Only part that I feel is misrepresented is the "Questionable AI" 34:42. It's the way it was designed and even in a dev Q&A (which I would also recommend to people where devs answer reddit questions) they said they could fix it pretty easily. But most of the time this is an easier (or more afk) way to do things, or to get skills of the ground.... like sure I could go round up all the mobs and ice barrage them and get mass xp or I could safe spot and be more relaxed.
My buddy is talking about playing for the very first time so I've been looking for a guide to help him out. Well I sent him this and pinned it to the clan's discord. Very well done my friend.
Honestly. Due to this guide I started playing RS3 and started Exploring. But then. I started crafting. And how I love crafting in this game. I played so much my mining got to 50 and my smithing got to around 40 or so. Good lord they nailed it. I am very excited to level up everything!
In the beginning of your video, the white text showed "RuneScape", but after 0:11 it is "RuneCsape". Don't know why am I writing this here, in the 4 y.o. video commentary sections... Probably to prove that it is not always a second monitor content.
I started yesterday. I missed RS when it came out and my comp is totally ass right now... I saw it on steam yesterday and decided to go for it. After binging out on your MMOs that suck videos I felt like I needed to play an MMO. I was amazed (somehow) when I saw you had old school RS covered: Thank you Sir Broham!
Last year I got back into OSRS. I had played the game religiously when I was younger, but had quit before the GE was created. When I returned I was a bit dismayed about the GE. I felt that it ruined a critical part of the game from when I was a kid; that you had to talk to other people or even post on the forums to buy and sell large amounts of materials. I rerolled as an ironman and have been having a blast ever since. I am questing without any guides and sometimes it takes me several days to figure them out. I know the community has a reputation of extreme min/maxing, and I'm happy to say I've stayed completely ignorant of those things for the most part, and am enjoying blindly running around the world doing things as I encounter them. I knew almost everything in this video already, but still found it extremely engaging to watch and listen to. Thanks a lot for making it.
recently downloaded OSRS again - ah the good old times. haven’t logged into my original acc yet, wanted to start out fresh and I’m still confused and trying to figure out how stuff works etc. - your guide did give me some useful tips still! nostalgia coming back
Hi. I really enjoyed you guide and was wandering where the “new members” guide is which you mentioned at around 59:13 I will start now with the game. It sounds awesome. Keep up your videos ❤❤❤❤
i've been binge-watching your videos ever since i discovered your channel (i only have about 1/4 of them left, then its on to twitch VODs, lmao). i watched this video expecting just to enjoy the content like i have been doing, never having been someone who got into osrs (i was a WOW-loyal kid in the 2000s). by the last third of the video, i had the client downloading. by the end of the video, i was halfway done the tutorial island. by midnight that night, i had my boyfriend and his roommate playing with me. they don't really Get It yet (bf has never played an mmorpg, rm is a guild wars 2 guy), but i'm going to make them watch this video, lol
I'm 3 years too late but I thought I would post here. I have barely played any MMOs in my life. I'm now a 30+ year old married father of 2 boys with Autism and I work mostly full time. Life is good though. I watch your videos even without being in the MMO space. I thought I would try and play old School RuneScape. I went that it for 4-6 hours but after that I needed a guide to figure it out. I saw you had one and it is a great help. Also had 2 guys in Lumbridge give me some gear and gold and talk me through stuff. Great community from what I've seen so far and looking forward to progressing further.
In all honesty, I dont plan on playing old school runescape, I just want to learn so I can watch my favorite streamer's gameplay and to cheer them on. Because I don't like playing these games, I like watching the gameplay.
Only 15 mins in, but what a fantastic video. As someone who's played since the mid 2000s, a lot of this seemed obvious to me until I tried teaching a friend how to play. In the future, I'm just going to send them a link to this video haha.
This is amazing. I've played for years but have been trying to find a good guide to teach my friends how to play properly. I watched Theoatrix' guide but he was going too much into useless information for new players. This guide is exactly what I was looking for. Quick thing to note though: If you die, after one hour your items just disappear. They do not first show up for other players.
I must like your content or something Josh because I've been playing Runescape since before 99% of players and I'm still watching this just as background entertainment. Lmao
