A beginners guide to programming flight plans into the Inibuilds A320 in Microsoft Flight Simulator

A few people have asked me recently if I might do a deep dive into programming routes by hand into the MCDU of the Inibuilds Airbus A320 V2 in Microsoft Flight Simulator. In this video I cover programming the INIT page, then SIDs, STARs, AIRWAYS, FIXES, and finally we take a very brief look at TCAS. Along the way we also look at PLAN mode on the navigation display, and CONSTRAINTS.
Hopefully this helps a few people :)

Worth noting before any experienced pilots write an essay in response to this - I'm really just covering the tip of the iceberg here :) I didn't cover the wind, re-programming of constraints, secondary flight plans, or a hundred other things :) This video is purely intended as a "leg up" for those that maybe look at the MCDU and think "eh?" :)

10/10 tutorial. I’m new to flight sim and this was perfect

Thank you for an excellent tutorial. Really clear and to the point. Now to put it into practice,hopefully 😊. Thank you again for making this video. Best video I’ve seen

Great video. Obviously you could get little bit more in depth but it is fine. One note on TCAS not sure about the A320n but default 747 and 787 traffic radar does now show aircraft which are too high or too low related to your altitude. That means these 2 aircrafts you mentioned were +2400 and +5300 feet above you not FL 240 and FL530.

Thank you, Jonathan, just what I was looking for. I am on Xbox and used to be able to program a route on the world map but with the A320 V2, it does not carry through onto the aircraft MCDU.

very very clear tank you, no other youtubers will show how program mcdu other throught simbrief automatic download of the current flight plan! Please consider to speak slow for non english simmers!

Now I'm trying to fly this plan, all is going as espected, please I can't understand why on the FMC you have some rows in green and other in white, what it means?

That was really helpful and interesting Jonathan, thank you. I wondered why my routes seemed a little minimal. I just entered departure and arrival and expected it to work out the waypoints............doh!!. I will have to write down the different types of waypoints because I easily get confused.......lol. Great stuff, and that last bit was a gem as I was only thinking last night 'what is TCAS'? Now I understand. Thank you so much. I am assuming this is the same using Simbrief? Thank you again.

@jonbeckett Inibuilds a320v2 looks good, but I have a lot of issues with it. 1 turn angle of steering wheel is too low, so turning angle is way too wide, 2, if choose a direct to fix, it will obey this but do it with wobbling wings, so the fly path will look like a wave, 3 when programming fl change, it likes to switch automatic to open climb/descent and finally on approach it gives me alpha floor 3rd flight in a row

You can change steering in tablet setting

S - Standard I - Instrument D - Departure and S - Standard T - Terminal A - Arrival R - Route. So that's what they meant.

TCAS +55 means 5500 ft above you if I am not mistaken .

This has helped a lot thank you. can i just ask though where the MCDU flight plan shows the speeds & Altitudes does the aircraft automatically adjust to these restriction/changes or do you have to set them manually by using the SPD knob & ALT knob? Thanks
@jonbeckett
@jonbeckett Месяц назад
The FMGC (the panel with the speed, heading, and altitude controls) operates in two modes - managed, and selected - for each major function. If the knobs are pushed (towards the aircraft), a dot appears next to the data - this means "managed mode" - meaning the aircraft will follow the flight plan. If the knobs are pulled (towards the crew), it means the crew's instructions are followed - so the heading, speed altitude, climb rate, etc.

Thanks for this! I have been spoiled by SimBrief integration that I rarely do this by hand, until the other day when there was a data mismatch. I couldn't figure out how to enter an altitude restrictions that's in between (ie. above 10000 and below 14000). I could enter above or below, but not between. Any suggestions?

Ngl idk what they have done but its so broken after full release cant even turn taxi thr plane without it turning the other direction, i want to learn the new a320neo V2 but cant without getting frustrated with plane bc its not responding in the way i need it to, needs a major update, was working fine before full release
