AviaPlanner is a new flight planning and chart visualisation tool for flight simulation - with perhaps it's biggest selling points (at the moment) being LIDO charts from Lufthansa, and it's cost - it's much cheaper than Navigraph (but far less capable too).
You can get a free trial, so why not take a look!
aviaplanner.com
Positives:
3 day free trial
Very clean map display (courtesy of Mapbox)
LIDO charts (from Lufthansa) are very good
Web interface (so you can run it on anything with a browser)
It's 60% cheaper than Navigraph
Negatives:
Not possible to customise routes
No waypoints, VORs etc outside of your route visible on map
Only caters for commercial/larger air traffic - no smaller airfields
Your aircraft does not appear on the map
It doesn't sync nav data yet (it's coming)

Definitely looks like a step in the right direction. If they can do some integration with the sim and give us option to create OFPs that would be a really nice step. Hope they keep the price reasonable. Navigraph is too expensive to use just once or twice a month for merely single digit flying hours. Thanks for bringing this new tool into notice. Cheers!

I wouldn't expect to see OFPs, but the navdata is coming. It's good to have options, isn't it.

@@jonbeckett Yes sir, options are always welcomed :) I am only worried that the existence of their entire business is completely dependent on an agreement between Lufthansa systems and UFETA, so at any point they are prone to getting arm twisted to oblige to their condition otherwise the whole business would collapse. I am hoping that never happens. I don't know if Navigraph also provides their service based on similar arrangements with Jeppesen/Boeing. I don't know if I am missing something here. Would really like to know your thoughts on this.

Just had a look at this and wow, the charts are so much clearer. It will definitely need better map options, we need to see other vors etc and certainly needs way more database aircraft and vfr options to compete, but its a great start!

Love the UI not sure how interested I am in learning more charts also it’s worth keeping in mind this doesn’t have the same level of integration as navagraph where you can load an entire fpl in seconds by importing it if you wish besides the different types of maps not sure if the inconvenience is worth the price.

While this isn't of interest to me at the moment (being I fly GA most of the time), it is good to see newcomers to the navdata party. Navigraph is amazing and continues to add to their offering. Will be watching what AviaPlanner becomes.

Signed up, fiddled with it for about 5 minutes, gave up and signed up for Navigraph. Despite being on Xbox, Navigraph does everything I wanted and more. I just wanted to have something where I didn't have to build my flight plan using the World Map (because it's honestly a PITA) and now here I am having learned what SIDs, StARs, charts for approach, etc within mere hours if signing up. Though, I do wonder what Working Title's native Flight Planner will be like for FS '24......and if I'll need Navigraph by then.

I mostly fly bush planes, helicopters and old WWII era planes which lack new navigation and I am looking for something that I can use on my tablet for route planning, way points and looking at the airfields in flight to see where my approach should come from as well as the runway. I wonder if this would work well for that or if you guys have a suggestion.
@jonbeckett
@jonbeckett 3 месяца назад
I think it's only suited to big planes so far :/

As you said, AviaPlanner is only for IFR flights. So can it be that EGTB is only VFR? This makes sense why there are no charts for it.
@jonbeckett
@jonbeckett 3 месяца назад
It's more the case that Lufthansa Systems have only been requested to make plates for airfields that service aircraft within certain classes.

Navigraph provides out of date Jep maps. I suspect because Jep maps are very expensive. Are the Lido maps out dated as well?

@IslandSimPilot

Navigraph does not provide out of date Jepp charts, the dates at the top are the revision date and the effective date. Example: OMDB ILS 12L, revision date is 28 OCT 22, chart effective 3 Nov, still valid.

Unfortunately it's been months and there has been no press release or updates, I think that in less than a year aviaplanner will close its doors because it's not a good sign, it will end like Aerosoft and its LIDO

LIDO Charts are not suitable for GA aircrafts, are they?
@IslandSimPilot

Nope, don't include approach categories A & B, which is aircraft with approach speeds below 120 knots.

As nice as this is I think for many people it is a non-starter unless you can access the charts in cockpit just like you can Navigraph, in the various Avionics and EFBs. Which isn't likely to happen unless this gains serious momentum or they themselves do it somehow.

To be honest, I have never used Navigraph within the simulator - I've always tabbed across to it.
