Similar. Massive heart attack and three resuscitations in April 2020. All of us in the online rehab group bucked the stereotype of couch potato hard drinking smoker. Our core fitness levels contributed to ha later in life than relatives, our survival, and our recovery from our inherited risks of ha. SBC and others were something of a lifeline. Very grateful. We'd just completed gutting and rebuilding our mid-1930s semi in SE London so haven't benefited from lessons learned. Shame. I'd have done things differently if such videos were easily available in 2014 to 2018

If you haven't made the drawer fronts for under the induction hob yet you could consider having the hot air exhaust right at the top, instead of cutting a slot in the drawer face. If you lower the whole top edge of the 2 drawer fronts by 15mm, the gap will be far less visible, as it's just below the counter top and in the shadow, compared with a slot in the drawer face. You would need to adapt the top panel, behind the drawer face a bit, to route the air up upwards, but that's not difficult.
@barryrobbins7694
@barryrobbins7694 10 месяцев назад
Yes, having that heat directed at your body while cooking will get old in the summer. There is also a way of designing the cabinet so that air is drawn in from the kicker and vented out the top of the cabinet behind the cooktop.
@debochch
@debochch 10 месяцев назад
I would have put a 40mm pipe or two in the wall behind. The vented the air up and out with fresh air coming in via my sloppy workmanship around the drawers.

You'll probably find if you read the spec sheet for the cooktop that it doesn't need a 15mm slot on the front of the cabinet. I've done thousands of kitchen here in Australia and never read a spec sheet for any cooktop that requires a 15mm gap on the front of a cabinet for ventilation

Hey Scott, electrician here. Your induction cooktop cabinet design has really peaked my interest. I've installed probably close to 50 of them with varying amperage requirements and never seen such a cabinet design for ventilation. I would really like to learn more about it, not for scrutiny reasons it's so I can do a better job. My only experience with air flow issues from the cooktops has been the top draw, any pans you put there might get some moisture on them but that's an easy fix.
@BlogWhatTheFruitcake
@BlogWhatTheFruitcake 9 месяцев назад
We have a cutlery/utensils drawer directly under our induction hob & I've never noticed any moisture (or warmth) from the stove top. In my experience, the way induction hobs cook, the heat is mostly above the glass. I mean, yeah, the glass top heats up a little because it's touching the thing that is hot (pot/pan) but haven't noticed a difference in the drawer below. Course, I'm just a home-user, but that's just my experience, anyway :)
@Noob4all94

@@BlogWhatTheFruitcake As induction works with electro magnets you need a minimum of a gap between the hob and the cultery, usually about 4cm. Must be specified in the manual.

As a cabinet builder, I don't know why people would extend all of their drawers at once and then close them all rapidly. But, once you have your drawer fronts on I would extend all of them to make sure they don't hit any adjacent drawers. When you have an 1/8" reveal a slide or cabinet being slightly out will allow a drawer to run into another drawer.

Definitely look at the IKEA bathroom vanities for inspiration for your kitchen sink!!!! They use a slightly different pipe that quickly runs to the back of the cabinet before going down and the usual P-trap or U-bend is closer to the wall. It makes a HUGE HUGE difference to your usability of the space under a sink!!!

Scott I believe the drawer systems save time. I'm building a big kitchen right now that has 38 drawers. Building wooden boxes isn't that time consuming, but the finishing takes tons of time. I used prefinished plywood for the backs and bottoms of these drawers and did them all in 2 days. That's way faster. I also like the sleek look of them. I do agree they look less like a custom, hand made kitchen. Well done!

Milwaukee Track Saw Questions: 1. Compare the power between different batterys 2. How close of a cut does it do? Enough to make furniture? 3. Would you just get a Festool Track Saw if you wanted to build furniture in the future? 4. Compare bag vs hose dust wood duct collection amount 5. Showcase some of the different Milwaukee blades offered 5. Would you just get two tracks to connect when needed or just go for the massive one and a regular daily use 6. I kinda wanna buy this Milwaukee Track Saw in the near future, assuming it can suffice at making furniture (weekend hoddy really)

Scott, I did a similar drawer system here in the states from Wurth. It’s a copy of the Blum Tandembox system. On the system that I used, the drawer front bracket clips attach into 10mm holes in the back of the drawer face. I did a Baltic birch drawer front, and was worried that if I made the drawer fronts individually that they would not line up. So I made a “giant drawer face” that covered as many drawers as I could with one piece of wood, then another next to it. I got these shimmed into place and then ran masking tape across them where all my cuts would be. I marked all my cut and kerf on this masking tape. On the back, I marked up all the bracket clip hole locations. This is easy because they are all still together as one piece. Then I carefully cut all the drawer fronts apart with the track saw, drilled my 10mm holes partway through the back with a Forstner bit, and then sanded and finished all my drawer fronts. I did not do any test fitting, they were all 100% finished before I installed the bracket clips and snapped the, onto the drawer box system. Perfect fit with perfect reveal.

Done many metal drawers for high end kitchens and offices. One thing you showed in the video is the huge amount of cardboard packaging left over. I saw your height spacer for the track. Tip: Faster runner attachment. If there are say 4 drawers, then cut the panel into 3 pieces at the height for each dr. slide (the bottom slide sits on the carcass bottom) Stack the pieces and do the top rail. Take off a piece and do the next one down, and so on. Allows you to work the whole side at once. This works for side mount slides as well. Just remember that there must be min. 1/8" space below the drawer bottom (use a strip of 1/8" masonite) to set up dr. box, to determine position of bottom slide without math involved. Once you get the hang of it, this is faster. No dados, no glue-ups, no waiting, no finishing, and quick accurate adjusting of the dr. fronts. I like the Accuride brand, followed by Blum. Gras is an acceptable, but lesser quality product.

(always meassure it dont use the supplied drawing) And then if needed adjust the dishwasher in height. so all the fronts line up. If the front is in line only then screw the dishwasher into place! This will safe you alot of trying to get it just perfect!. Also put the sticker or the metal plate on top of the dishwasher so the wood wont get damaged by the moisture. But iam sure you got that one figured out already :)! Also think about anti slip mats for all you're drawers. That will be a life safer also :)

Love watching this come together and congrats to the All Blacks! Good luck next week! If you're routing the exhaust slot from the face, I recommend making an oversized template and using a downcut bit with a guide bushing. This should minimize tear-out on your show face. Just finished a load of template routing on 3/4" (18mm) ply. Upcut was giving me bad results. Made the switch and it was all gravy after that. May be a non-issue if you plan to roundover or chamfer the edges later. Hope this is helpful!

If the spacing us too large, liquids dripping from the counter top flow into the spacing. Looks awful and very hard to clean ( even with cloth around screwdriver/knife etc.) . Maybe a faux saw cut? Don't know if that works with your panel's veneer.

If the hot air exhausts at the front, you are going to heat yourself up as you stand at the hob....nice in winter but unpleasant in summer!

I thought the whole point of the induction cooktop was that it doesn’t heat up as much as electric cooktop? And the heat is only between the pan the cooktop. No??

Thanks Scott! Those drawers look very similar to the IKEA kitchen cabinets/drawers. I didn’t know these parts were available elsewhere but it seems exactly the same.

I'm just a home DIYer, but I bought a very similar drawer kit from B&Q here in Ireland (but everything included, bottoms, backs & fronts). Easy enough for me to put together & install, I love them! The soft close is very satisfying :D I do wonder if you're overthinking the ventilation under the induction hob. We have one and they really don't get that hot, the heat is all above and (mostly) contained to the pot/pan. The glass top is cool to the touch quite quickly after cooking. Our cabinets underneath don't have any ventilation gaps in the front. Directly under the hob we have a drawer with utensils & I've never noticed that the knives, forks, etc. are warm during/after cooking when I go to grab something from the drawer, and I've not seen any ventilation gaps in other kitchens with induction hobs. Does your hob specifically say to have the ventilation? That would be an interesting to know! Kitchen's coming along nicely, I'm sure Jess can't wait to start cooking up a storm in there!
