The underside of the overhang on the outside of a building is called the soffit. Inside the building it's called the ceiling.

I would suggest putting a fine mesh screen behind the vents to stop "critters" from inhabiting the area.

You should really put a screen behind those vents to prevent bugs getting it there and nesting, especially Bees because they can make massive nests inside walls that can be really destructive to your home. Also, close off as much gaps as possible and caulk any seams for the same reason.

There is one last thing to do, I hate to say, but you’re going to want to take the 2 ventilation pieces down and nail very fine screen behind them, so bees and other pest don’t make homes behind your soffits. Right now the holes are way too big. You need screening that will stop bugs, but not air. Outside they’re soffits. Inside, because it’s an A-Frame home, the ceilings are the walls too part of the time. But inside, no soffits. Lots of love. Soffit is only exterior. Since you have a A frame the inside is the ceiling,the whole area you are doing now is the soffit, the vertical area where the black metal is next to soffit is called the fascia.. Love this episode!!

The word ceiling is always interior. In your house the ceilings are the flat surface above you. So even though your walls are a roof on the exterior, they are called walls on the interior because it’s an A-frame house. Soffit is put on the underside of the roof over hang . It stops critters etc from getting in your house and it allows air flow in to help stop moisture damage to insulation and roof. The insulation you use there is very thin. I wonder how effective it is against heat and cold.

On the outside it is called the soffit the whole way up. On the inside, being an A frame, it would be called a wall all the way up. I am super impressed with what you and Freddie have accomplished together. What a beautiful house.

A soffit is the area outside underneath the roof overhang or eave. For your house it's everything from the ground to the peak. Inside an A frame house the area that angles the same as the roof can be called wall or ceiling Since you have a two story the sides on the first floor are a wall and the area above the living room, kitchen, and dining room is a ceiling.😊 You two do work good together Getting the soffit installed really changes the look of the house . It keeps looking better. To finish off that side of the house a nice little deck or porch with some stairs would look nice. Stain the same color as the soffit 😊

You are confused because there is more than one type of soffit. There is a soffit o the underside of roofs, that is the type you are installing. Those soffits enclose that area sometimes just for an attractive finish such as on your home but also sometimes for functional use such as ventilation for under the roof, wiring for lighting, etc. But there are also soffits that are used inside under ceilings. The ones inside the house are usually box shaped areas that drop down from the main level of the ceiling. They might contain heating and cooling ducts or they might have can lighting inside them or plumbing lines from bathrooms in rooms from an upper story. Or sometimes they only purpose is to be an interesting detail to break up the look of a large flat ceiling or to create a lower ceiling to define a space such within a large area such as a place for conversation or for dining or maybe in hotel lobby the reception desk where you check in or ask for information.

I think a cream color exterior would go with blue-green roof and black trim and natural wood soffit.

Could you kill the termites with a torch? Im glad you spotted them and decided to return & replace them! You've worked so hard. It would have been a shame to have to redo it all bc of termites. Looking great!!

Sofits are the exterior and ceilings are the interior.

The Soffit is a breathable Cover you place under the roof overhang on the outside of the house.. Technically what you are installing is sealing boards on the outside overhang.. It looks amazing.. The reason to install Soffit is to allow the Roof to breath and vent moisture in the heat or cool.. Just so your aware Sealing the overhang can allow moisture to be trapped.. Being in panama Im not sure how much having a vented soffit would help.. The sealed wood will eventually need to be replaced in a few years either way.. enjoy it the way it is.. People in the USA use a metal soffit in more humid environments to prevent rot..

outdoors under the roof it's called a soffit. When indoors under the roof on an A frame structure it's a wall, when the wall gets up to about 7 ft or 8 ft. from the floor it becomes the ceiling. Since you have a second floor the wall ends at the underside of your second floor and the underside of your second floor becomes your ceiling. When NO second floor then refer to the 7 ft to 8 ft rule (FT stands for Feet) from floor to ceiling

I agree with commenter who mentioned sealing the remainder of the house with trim. Outside trim looks good, but also serves to protect. You both are rocking the construction

Roof is outside your teal metal. The ceiling is where your lights are over the kitchen. They already explained soffits are outside overhanging facing down. Fascia is black edge that ties your roof to soffit.

All the area outside under the roof edge is soffit. Inside i would say because your house is a A frame the parts under the roof are walls but where you have the second floor covering the first, the area above your head on the first floor would be the ceiling

The area inside with wood cladding is a wall. A Soffit usually refers to the underside of an over hang for a roof.

In the UK, a soffit is an external under-roof/eaves area. A ceiling is internal and is the internal 'roof' in any room within (inside) the house structure. We call those things soffit boards😜

You should have done the finish called shou Sufi ban . Where they burn the would. It’s suppose to rot and bug resistant. Also prevents decaying! I would think it would great with your house.

Soffit’s are the portion outside of the exterior house walls that cover the roofline. Only for outside of the home. It’s also not about bottom or top it’s just the covering underneath the overhang of the roof.

I am not one who likes dark exterior colors for the outside of homes. But i think yours would look good with a dark gray. It would go well with the wood soffits and the black metal support. Then it would be a good contrast of the green forest and roof.

soffit is on the outside of the house, ceilings and walls are on the inside of a house. If you had a roof with a overhang on the outside (like a porch) it would have a soffit on it also, because it is the open trim portion of an exterior building. You know what -- CALL IT WHATEVER YOU WANT - it looks great. :)

I mistakenly told you to paint the trims in ash gray. The color that I wanted to tell you to paint it in is dusty Grey. Dust Grey is a rich dark Grey that looks good with black and different shades of blue.

The soffit is outside only. all the way around the house, top, bottom. Inside is always the ceiling. The soffit is what you are doing, the board on the front of the soffit on the outside is the facia board. Can be wood or metal but it is the facia. Under the eve of the roof outside is always the soffit. What you are doing looks good.

Soffit is cover on underside of any outdoor roof overhang. Ceiling is inside roof above wall tops. Floors are inside but some other English speakers call the ground outside ‘the floor’ . A soffit is what you called the ceiling on the side that's all soffit from the tip top of the roof all the way down to the bottom on the inside is referred to soffit inside. The house with the doors is called the ceiling. The roof outside underneath is soffit. The roof inside is called ceiling.

Soffit refers to the underside of an overhang. So the lower and upper sections underneath your roof over the porch. Ceiling is the underside of the inside roof overhead. Not certain what the inside portion of an A-frame roof/wall is called.

Your vents that you put in your Soffit need to have fly screen on the interior of the vent. This stops any insects from entering and making a nest inside your soffit. I didn't see any screens on the inside of the vents you managed to get. You don't want Wasps or Bees taking up residence.

If it's over your head on the inside, it's ceiling, no matter the angle, and if the surface over your head extends down to below your head, like in an A-frame, you could argue either ceiling or wall for the area lower than your head.

Anyt material you use to finish the work on the underside of your roof is called a soffit and that is all the way to the peak of your house. I agree w rodrigo the roof would look better black. Or any metallic color w enough shine for it to look like actual metal and not paint. If you keep the roof that color I’d go with white/ light grey or beige for the house.

The A frame has been a really good use of building materials. Bigger roof means less wall material.and you could live or camp in It while you continue to finished inside and outside

A soffit is the overhang on the exterior of a structure. Most soffits have air vents to release pressure caused by hot and cold air that constricts and restricts. Hot air expands. Most inhabited structures have at least a crawl space between the ceiling and the roof. Not having proper insulation and ventilation between the ceiling and the roof can affect the living space climate atmosphere and cause deterioration.

The Soffit is only outside, and under the roof. Ceilings are inside. But you have an A frame... so unless you have a vertical wall, then it would be considered a ceiling. A frame homes are a bit confusing as to what to call the interior structures. But don't over think it.

Guys, I suggest that you dig out a full height work area beneath the jungle side of your house. You could even add a gravel or concrete floor and make an all weather work and storage area.

I would skip adding the wood to the other side of your house for now. Nobody sees that side and you have a lot of other projects of higher priority. Looks great.

If you wish to increase the fresh air circulation in the soffit to remove moisture you could add another vent lower down so fresh air can enter. Hot air rises so there will be natural convection air movement upwards to the top vent.

Inside walls are walls. You're outside inside edges are soffits. I love your home.❤😊

That part of the roof that extends beyond the house wall becomes the soffit within the confines of the house it is the ceiling once outside requiring water & weather proofing it is soffit, it is the soffit all the way to the peak of the roof , you have an A frame construction that makes it confusing because the roof comes all the way almost to the ground.

I would really like to see the two of you becoming Self Sufficient. There are many books out there on becoming self sufficient and people on youtube that would help you along. I would like to suggest once a week cooking, both German and South/mid American have many wonderful foods. Make a bigger Kitchen for canning veggies and fruits you can gather in your area. Frankie loves tea, how many plants in Panama can you find to make teas with? Never know, you could collect teas and sell them in J and K's shops. Just a thought. :) These are just suggestions for you to think about. on another note.... whats up with no post for many days? lol take care.

Soffit is the overhang pass the walls outside. Ceiling is the surface in-between walls. Usually inside but there are Lanai's', garages, porches, ect outside that have ceilings.

Rod. All of the under side of the roof outside is the soffit. Inside it's ceiling. But where your roof is inside it's made your walls so a gray area for some. But I would say it's wall. And very nice it is.😊

After you harvest everything from the garden. Put donw a garden fabric everywhere, beds and floors.
