Everyone is always warned about approaching wild animals or going to hostile countries. They ignore the warnings then we see them on the news crying for help..., WTF ???
She witnessed that male bison (during rutting season) get down to roll around on the ground in the dust before he got up and charged her. How was she able to see that if she turned and walked away as soon as she was aware of his presence? From the get go, articles about this have big holes in the story and that is suspicious.
@JoinMeAsWeGetToKnowArizona...You're in their territory. These silly people have been warned and warned by the rangers and they still trying to mess with wildlife. Go for her and hopefully the bison is still alive!
@JoinMeAsWeGetToKnowArizona... Are you on meditation? Bison need to learn? They need to learn. Wanna take a picture get a high $$ camera. Hope she learned her lesson.
@JoinMeAsWeGetToKnowArizona... People that live with wild animals, like in Arizona, understand this is their territory and it's US screwing them over instead of leaving them alone in their habitat
Yep. People get too close. The one time I visited Yellowstone Park, cars had slowed down to look at some bison when all of a sudden a guy and girl on a motorcycle drove right up to a bison standing near the road and they stopped!!! They were side-by-side next to a huge bison. The bison eyed them by looking down at them I was waiting for something horrible to happen. I couldn't believe what these people did. Nothing horrible happened, but they were just very lucky. It was a disaster waiting to happen. People are stupid. Really stupid and selfish.
Wow... I don't wish them harm but I have a sickening feeling that since they got lucky that time, they'd do it again given the opportunity. Although there have already been so many documented stories of tragic outcomes from similar behavior; and years of campaigns to educate and warn the public, here we are again.
Maybe he's not sure of his identity. He may be a Buffalo at heart but when he tries to identify as a Buffalo no one notices. They don't care they just want to take selfiies with the " bison " in the background. Well not today mu#$: fu@#. Your gonna learn the difference between bison and Buffalo today Kerrin.
I just got back from Yellowstone and not only are there signs EVERYWHERE, but they also give you handouts when you enter the park telling you to STAY AWAY FROM THE ANIMALS. It was amazing to see so many people getting so close, and then you find yourself cheering on the animals to do a little goring. These idiots get what they deserve and the only thing I’m upset about is there’s no video of it so we can all see some sweet karma.
in most cases yes, but it sounds like this woman wasnt approaching on purpose or didnt see them. It happens all the time even with people that know how to behave. I know a handful of people that have heard a noise above them in a deer stand pre dawn put a light up there and found a black bear.
So you're claiming it is completely impossibe to not notice a bison until you're close to it. That view-blocking brush near roads don't exist in yellowstone. Ok.
"A bison was being a bison at Yellowstone Park and a woman was gored. First such incident of 2023." There ya go, I fixed the headline. Wildlife being wild isn't news but it is interesting reading and viewing. Goring isn't strange, goring is a bison's job. That's what they're supposed to do. It sounds harsh but that's why they make telephoto lenses.
I love the demos shown by the 2 rangers, using the car as a way to hide. But, these guys are in good shape. The average 50-70 yo could not accomplish these moves fast enough. I have seen footage of people literally standing next to the bison taking selfies! Those people were very lucky. Keep your distance, folks!
How did she get gored to the abdomen and chest if she supposedly was walking away? The only way is if she turned around and he was right behind her and then gored her.
Well maybe she was doing what she was supposed to and walking backwards keeping eye contact. Still think she was completely wrong and probably being a Touron.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me the bison is OK. The ladies FAILURE to maintain a safe distance is what landed her in the hospital and I for one, have ZERO sympathy.
Sounds like she disregarded the posted signs that are all over the park telling you how far you are supposed to stay from the wildlife and what could happen if you don’t. I’ve been reading stories all summer long about idiot tourists putting their hands in hot springs and getting too close to animals. This is a consequence of not following the rules. Hope she learned her lesson, but my guess is she didn’t.
Nah, she had injuries to her CHEST, she ain’t “turn around to run away”. She was facing that bison & probably antagonizing it. It didn’t wanna be bothered & she got the point, literally
Another person learning the hard way you have to give wild animals alot of space people get too damn close to wid animals and then wonder what went wrong when the animal charges and attacks. Not the animals fault they're just defending their territory and herd..
There has been MANY reports or stupid people getting too close... They have several warning signs... I dont feel sorry for her.. As stupid as they are to get close, they are smart enough to know the consequences.. Fault is solely on human error. .. NOT the bison!!
I have watched many videos of ppl ignoring the signs and the rules, I don't feel sorry for her. She was too close, and they won't charge unless you're too close.
I'm sure she she had it coming. All these Karen's n Chad's walk in these places acting like they own the ground beneath them, including the animals. I'm sure she's not going to tell the truth about what happened either just so she can save face.
They won't. That usually only happens with predatory species, and only in certain circumstances. For example, a woman, a conservationist planting trees in a remote area, was just attacked by a Grizzly in Canada, and officials have already said they will not pursue any action against the animal because of the circumstances.
Life on this planet, as a human is the same as life in the wild for animals. It is survival of the fittest. It saddens me that humans are ignorant enough to approach wild animals like they do at this park! My dad took me to Yellowstone when I was on the second grade we witnessed beautiful wildlife that approached our car. At no time did I wish to jump out of the car and go hug a buffalo not even when I was a child. Basic instinct kicked in. My dad used to say do you gotta have “Smarts!” Well obviously, this woman and many others do not have any smarts!! If people don’t know enough to look twice before crossing a busy street, they might get hit by a car! If they don’t know enough to stop for a stop sign while driving, they could get teed by traffic! …And if they don’t know enough, not to stay a safe distance / or in their cars around wild animals like majestic Buffalo then I say, let nature take over and let god sort em out! The planet is in need of intelligent people who want to save earth not stupid people littering the planet, and breeding making more stupid people that pull stunts like this! My heart goes out to the woman that got Gord. Obviously this is not funny, but anyone stupid enough to approach a wild animal, especially a buffalo that weighs over 1500 pounds does not have any brain waves in my opinion. High tip of the day - if you travel to any wildlife preserve on planet stay behind the fence, the barricade, or in your car. If you do not understand basic rules of engagement it will be your demise. Like my dear old dad used to say “you can’t fix stupid! “ Namaste Amigos - sending positive energy & good vibes to everyone!! ❤
Smart dad raised a smart kiddo. You said that well. We can only hope the numbers (stupid) start to decrease but since 2015 or so, they have seemed to soar.
The very worst disrespectful behaviors by humans towards animals I have ever seen have taken place at Yellowstone. It seems that it is a collecting point for these types of human encounters with wildlife.
I just don't get it. While I find animals in the wild as magnificent and fascinating as anyone else, I do not understand this almost pathological need to get up close and personal for a photo or video that could be similarly captured by using a telephoto lens on a camera, or even the very good zoom feature now built into most cell phone cameras. In fact; I was told I could take a fairly well- detailed photograph of the surface of the moon with my cell phone from approximately 238,900 MILES out..however; these people insist they must get closer than the recommended 25 YARDS (75 FEET!) to get a good shot of a bison??? Give me a break and STOP needlessly endangering the animals or the first responders who may need to rescue you from your own stupidity. Just stop it.
In the visitors centers they even play videos of people getting too close to bisons and them attacking cars and running towards people. This is to let people know the dangers of approaching these beautiful animals. I mean this is not the animals fault- we are actually in their territory! The signs are everywhere, people seem to think that it won’t happen to them. We have to respect their home. It’s a beautiful place but just respect it.
My prayers go out to this lady for a complete recovery from her injuries. This is extremely scary when animals are attacking people. We humans have to remember that these bisons are wild animals, and they will kill you if they feel threatened.
We saved three idiots from being stomped in Yellowstone a few years ago when they tried to get a selfie with a an adult male bison right behind them. I could not believe how stupid they were endangering their young son.
One thing I learned, if an animal attacks you you're definitely too close for comfort to them. Be mindful and discipline of your actions. Earth is not only for humans.
I was out on open range land in Nevada with my youngest daughter one time. We came across some range raised cattle. My daughter jumped out of the truck and was going to go "pet the cow". I raised my voice (yelled,...something I try not to do) and told her that these were range cattle and they had just calved a month ago. They could easily kill her. Bison are known for being even more wild in temperament.
Absolutely...and well-within the range of any camera or cell phone with a half decent zoom. No need to move in any closer. in fact, my cell can take a decent shot of the freakin' moon from 238,900 miles out but people insist on getting closer than 75 feet??? People must also realize that their actions not only put them at risk, but can also endanger the first responders who must rescue them.
Bison : 1 Stupid tourist: 0 Don’t get out of your vehicle, don’t encroach on their space. Educate yourself about the wildlife you’re going to encounter and proceed accordingly. People blatantly ignore signs, warning and even the Park Rangers telling them to back off or leave the area.
People will never learn. The bison are here for a rush. I wonder if this woman will try this again. I hope the bison was not euthanized. Prayers for the woman to get better.
Born an animal freak, when I was a kid, we traveled a lot because Dad was in the Army. Once, when in Arizona at a truck stop, to my delight, there was a bison in a round pen. The owner was feeding and watering the gorgeous beast and everyone admired him and went inside the shop. I hurried back out to look at the bison. Nobody was there. I stood on the side of the round pen and he walked over to me, sized me up. I was encouraging him to get near so I could pet him. He was so cute. As I leaned in to try to touch him, my other arm dangled on the inside of the fence. He was aware of that and slammed into my arm in a split second! My arm was smashed, but only superficially. I hurried up and got away from the area, writhing in pain, but glad to be alive. Nobody saw and I never told anyone for years, but as a horse owner and trainer today, I know that any livestock could do it to anybody. They would enjoy it and have fun doing it. And because of their size, you will probably get hurt and regret it later.
Be honest she wanted to get a close up picture and the bison didnt want to take a picture with her. She would have had injuries to her back if she was trying to walk away
I’ll say it if no one else will, this the most idiotic thing anyone can do. Especially when there are numerous warning signs all over the park. People need to use common sense when wildlife environment, especially when it’s mating season or when it’s birthing season. Many people seem to be getting injured by wildlife and by no fault of the wildlife but by people willingly not following the rules. Humanity needs to learn how responsible for their actions and realize that encroachment has limits. Make smart decisions.
Wildlife should be respected. Many times there is no repercussion against the animal because humans are to blame. If you walk into a bear with cubs, if you infringe on any animal's territory - bear the consequences (pun intended).
