I graduated in 2021 but I always find myself returning to this channel every time I miss Oxford!!! The irony is that when you're a student there you're so stressed that you don't appreciate the beauty of the buildings/city but once you graduate you miss it terribly!
As someone who loves structure and the value of following the rules, (I'm a bit square, I know) I loved the anecdote of the king who couldn't borrow the book : )
Im a librarian at the Bodleian library and ive very much appreciated your videos featuring the bodleian and the different libraries of Oxford, and promoting what libraries can do. Btw, for people wanting to take a tour of the bodleian, do book in advance online as they do sell out and if you leave it to the day theres a good chance there wont be any spaces left.
That means a lot! Libraries are SO important - and especially the work at the Bodleian! That’s such a cool place to work! And thank you for sharing that tip! X
I love how, in the background of almost every clip, there is diversity of people. In light of the heinous riots that took place in the UK, it is lovely to see the beauty of diversity.
Hi Ruby! I absolutely adore your videos of Oxford! You look SO happy-in your element there, with the stunning architecture, the books, the wonderful atmosphere, and of course, the book and coffee shops! We must start a campaign "Keep Ruby in Oxford!" I am going to miss these wonderful videos of the sights and sounds of Oxford! Your love for its History, the people who worked and studied there, and your enthusiasm shine through everything you share with us. On a bad day, or when I'm feeling low, when I see you have posted a video on RU-vid, yours is the first one I go to; I know Ruby will get me through! So relaxing, so informative, and always a world away from the hum-drum ! Thank you, Ruby, love sue xxx
Oh my goodness Sue - this made my day! What an utterly lovely comment 🥺 I will certainly miss this city next year… have you ever visited? And that means so much that you’ve found some solace in my channel. More than you know ❤️
What a lovely video to watch! Looks like you had a fab time! I love seeing mothers and daughters spending time together like this, especially as my relationship with my own family has never been great. Your mum seems so warm and lovely xx
Absolutely love your videos. I wanted to share a little insight about CS Lewis. Being a local Belfastian like myself, it's often misconceived that a lot of artists drew information from Oxford. And why not. It's beautiful and historic and a perfectly respectable place any decent artist would be proud to draw inspiration from. However, Lewis was inspired by more local beauty spots. One in particular is the stunning Cavehill at his own doorstep, with a forest backdrop, a Victorian lamp post at the entrance set in the grounds of an exquisite beautiful castle, as well as other sights around Belfast.
I've always dreamed of visiting Oxford and even to attend Oxford. It shows how much more Oxford offers then what you imagine, plus it gets more and more beautiful every time i see anything Oxford related
Thank you for this beautiful tour of Oxford and the university! It was fantastic to see the historic sites and experience the academic atmosphere. Great presentation
It feels like walking into a movie and I can feel the joy Harry Potter felt every year when he returned to Hogwarts! How nice it is to follow you in all your study and growth changes. thank you for sharing all this, your videos are always full of study and life and inspire me so much to create content, read and write ✨ a big hug from Italy 💚
Thank you so much for this wonderful book tour! I love reading and often inhibit book stores and libraries soaking up the atmosphere and enjoy what literary wonders there are on the shelves. Love your vlogs! Keep doing what you love! 📚
When c.s lewis was a boy he dreamt about the lamppost in a snowy forest and was reminded about it by his brother when he wanted to start writing stories and that is where the inspiration came from
Thank you so much Ruby!!! Your content is so inspiring, and the genuine enthusiasm you have for Oxford and academics in general motivates me to be a better student in school. ✨😊
I was just at Oxford last month and stayed there for 4 days and I can't really get enough of Blackwell's. Cafe Nero was super nice and especially nicer when you get the chance to read or work in one of their sofas overlooking the Sheldonian Theatres. If you are a student, I also recommend signing up for a Bodleian Library Card, which will allow you to work and study at the Bodleian Old Library.
11years ago, i was studying english at Brighton. At that time. i visited Oxford with my friends. As I touched each college building, I could feel Oxford's rich history. Now I am 33years old and I am going to Nottingham to study Mpharm foundation course. I am really excited
I am now planning to take the day off work 😂 and go to Oxford with my sister. Thank you Ruby for showing us around. It was really helpful and enjoyable ❤ I must say it is lovely to see how your mum support you with your channel or so so sweet 😊
Ruby, that was a beautiful tour which you made with your mother in Oxford. Oxford looks like a lovely town with so many nice old buildings. I have been to Oxford twice to visit the Ashmolean Museum and to tour around the University.
Oh Ruby, I absolutely adored watching this video. Thank you for sharing a beautiful insight into Oxford.. so many lovely places to visit, it will definitely be on my bucket list now❤
Gosh, the weather you had with your mum looks glorious! I’m currently in the depths of winter but your video has inspired me to think about a summer tour of a city. Lovely video as always.
Dear ruby thank you so much for showing us this beautiful place. Blackwells is definitely on my bucket list. I live in Connecticut close to Yale university. Now I see how oxford inspired its architects! I love learning about the history of these wonderful places. You are so lucky to be able to study in such a beautiful place. ❤
Such a fantastic vlog Ruby. Well-done ❤ I used to live in Oxford as a student and loved it. Now drive from London just to go to the Blackwells bookshop
Thank you for this tour. It was amazing, i love the details here and there, and the happiness i felt in your voice. And with your Mum, it is always special. It is the most magical place for me, i am never tired of it. ❤❤❤
Maravilloso.
I'm watching your videos partially because I was looking for Oxford-related content after rewatching A Discovery of Witches which is set there. I remeber watching your vlogs when the semester started and it was just sooo cool to see that the city is as lovely as it is in the series. (Also, so many parallels.) So in a way Oxford brought me here & I hope I'll get to visit one day. PS Congrats on finishing your thesis, Ruby! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
in september i'm going to start my publishing postgrad in oxford and this video made me incredibly excited to just wander around and get lost in these beautiful bookist spaces, thank you sooo much for this video xx
Wow Ruby, great job!!! such a lovely video. I honestly enjoyed the trip with you. Love your mom!! and you are such a good daughter for taking her to these amazing places.
Nice walkthrough. Now I appreciate the real side of Oxford town by showing the church, cafe and markets. The place got its hype from its university. It's good you have shown the true environment. You and your mom must have enjoyed a day of sightseeing an rustic englishtown.
Wow, Ruby, under your last video I told you that I was craving a trip to Oxford and you took me there with this video...which is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you so much, I hope you had a great time with your mum! 💕
I just finished reading Gaudy Night by Dorothy Sayers, so I’ve been binge watching some of your more Oxford-centered vlogs to help me visualize some scenes 😅 such a well-timed video for me!!
Interesting to see how Oxford changes. Wd love to see a video covering all the weird little bookshops in oxford, secondhand and new - even somewhere like the Inner Bookshop, but I've been told it has moved further out of the city, so perhaps not... Thanks for this, 🥰 I love Oxford.
Wow, I’ve never seen that underground area in Blackwells!! Now a must see. I’ve been to both of those exhibitions - they are great. Love your posts Ruby.
Ruby, this video is so wonderful!❤ It was so interesting and know I NEED to visit Oxford. Thank you so much for sharing these tips!! Have a bookish day 📚
Wow this is so beautiful and I love it!!! So excited to plan a UK trip again soon + hopefully can see some of these irl 🤍 the gasp I gasped when I saw the Harry Potter staircase! Haha! That was magical.
Hi Ruby! I went to Oxford last year and after watching this video, I miss Oxford more. I love the old buildings that hold histories behind it. I visited Alice's shop (the real shop which Alice visits in Alice through the looking glass). It is a very old small shop but I like it. ❤
This was absolutely wonderful, Ruby! ❤ A bit random, but as a writer myself, I was wondering if you would be willing to do a tour of Scrivener and how you use it for your writing projects?
Love when your Mom is in videos! You're making me miss Oxford. I've only been once. We got to stay in the old town hall building that overlooks Christ Church College. It was amazing! Like stepping into Harry Potter. People call me Ginny Weasley sometimes due to my red hair. :D
Did I mention, I love your channel? What an amazing lovely person you are. 🤗❤️ Stay curious. stay as warm hearted as we see you on youtube. wishing you all the best!
Gracias por mencionar la parte de la lampara y la puerta que se especula inspiró a CS Lewis, y por mostrar el Magdalen College de donde se graduó y trabajó
Hey Ruby! Congratulations on completing your masters, you are such an inspiration! I am starting my dream masters in September! I was wondering if you are going to release a study planner this year? I would really like to get it!
I would not have learned of the Bod (the tv series biggest scenes start there) or Mary Sidney had it not been for A Discovery of Witches-good tv series and book series-well done, highly recommend.
I loved reading ‘I Julian’ by Claire Gilbert. I may even have to read it again just to try and absorb it all xD I’m currently re reading Revelations of Divine Love off the back of it- it’s so interesting seeing how Claire Gilbert managed to capture their essence. 0:56
Just to say, St John Henry Newman was an Anglican who converted to Roman Catholicism in 1845, subsequently becoming a Cardinal of the church in 1879 and he died in 1890.
My first visit to a Blackwell bookstore, I got a copy of The Stompysaurus which I thought would be a nice present for someone who has a temper. Highly recommended Alright I got it for myself I thought it’s pretty cool. You should see the illustrations The Worrysaurus is pretty special too.
