the song heard at the end of the movie: A Boy and His Dog [1974]. I couldn't find this song anywhere. Either I didn't look hard enough, or I was looking in the wrong places. the movie said that the music was done by Tim MC Intire, Larry Bunker, Ray Manzarec, Richard Ruskin, Jim Maxwell, and Herb Crawford. so one of them or a combination of them made it.

This movie saved my dogs life. I was dating a girl, going to move in with her. She wanted me to put my dog down so we wouldn't have 3 dogs (she had 2). The night before I was going to do it I saw this movie, dumped her the next day. A boy and his dog. No women in the world will ever love you like that.

@@gorgondork I first saw this at an Air Force base in Spain in 1980. We had to replay the last few minutes of the movie several times. A few of us got it right away and a few more with each replay. Except one Lt. Col who just couldn't get it. Once it was explain to him he FREAKED and call us all sick. You gots to love a college degree and no sense.

Definitely not where I thought the story was going. I thought your solution was going to be more in-line with the movie - probably would have been better because now she's out there talking other people into euthenizing their best friends.

Free will is better than sex. I’m glad you listened to “God” inside of you. Vic’s dog blood was literally his consciousness see how he guided him from danger? Made him think before he acted.

I know this ending isn't to everyone's... well... taste, but it's one of my favorites. Laughed my ass off. I'm a girl, but I love my dogs! I woulda done the same.

SPOILERS AHEAD for me it was an heartwarming end. Not because they killed the girl, but because the boy preferred the friendship of his faithful doggo friend.

@@Redacted-mi4rm blood the dog symbolizes god. He is Vic’s consciousness and helps him survive. By Vic having a conscious he had free will

Just watched it. What a good fucking ending. Pretty good movie, loved it very much. I'm also a avid player of Fallout and this movie inspired the game series.

Harlan Ellison was not happy with the last line but i found the ending perfect.

Sage Blacksoul The problem with the ending was that in the novella it's subtle, it's only implied that they ate her. Here they pretty much directly state it. It loses some of the shock that the original story had, forcing the reader to come to a realization of what occured. The end loses some of its meaning too, I thought the "A boy loves his dog" line was the perfect ending. The film doesn't play off of the twist as well. There's no callback to the idea of love.

Tbh Harlan Ellison was kindof an insistent perfectionist. I thought the ending was great (for what the movie was, I mean); definitely memorable.

Jonas Nordin In the novel, it’s outright admitted that Vic would feed people to Blood during the ambush at the YMCA. I always thought Harlan dislike it because it ruined the foil between the savage man and civilized animal.

@@rhapsodyman2000, yeah. As good a writer as Harlan was, he could be a perfectionist prick at times. The last line makes the movie. Movies are different than books.

Quilla wasn´t just an ordinary girl, she was a manipulative and mean bitch. So the ending wasn´t as cruel as it might seem to some.
