Omg you really read Don Camilo Books. As a child we all loved the black and white movies from Italy. Garp was my first Irving but I liked Son of the Circus even more. Irving always has a Austrian connection in his books witch I like of course.
My favourite Len Deighton book (theoretically) is Ou Est Le Garlic which is Deighton's French cookery book, originally written as a newspaper comic strip. I do own his Action Cook Book which is more basic cooking (for men) as a comic strip. Both of these were published in the 60s while he was getting famous for his "Harry Palmer" books. It was also in the 60s that he lived in an appartment in the same house as my parents
There is readathon for historical fiction, and it is held… in November! Historathon 4.0 (not to be confused with Q4 of Historathon 2023) was announced just two days ago on the channels On The Middle Shelf, Lindsey’s Little Library, and Gloria Z Thompson.
Oddly enough I have The War of the Lot by Sterling Lanier, sitting on my coffee table. I read Hiero's Journey when it first came out and has been a favorite for years. Need to read it again to refresh my memory.
What are you talking about? These events you guys do aren't simply entertaining they are educational in some way. Show must go on. I wish you took over Sagalong and never even mentioned me)))
I just bought a Len Deighton, Game / Set / Match omnibus. I’ve never read him but someone on booktube recently talked about this trilogy and it piqued my curiosity (no idea who it was)
I wonder also after such a long time if my re-reading of Deighton's works will still be as much fun & enjoyment as it was all those decades ago?...I do remember the TV series of game, set & match staring Ian holm as Bernard Sampson..
To answer your question, yes, Assignment is part of a multi-book series. If memory serves me correctly, there were around 20 or 30 books total. I read them all as a much younger person. At the time I thoroughly enjoyed them for action/adventure with plenty of descriptions of faraway places. Now??? Not sure, but I think I may try one or two of them and see.
