@@BradleyGearhart Just had this random thought, but Newfoundland (The relatively obscure island that I live on) could be an interesting video for you. Since you have an ongoing theme of Nordic history covering some of the Viking settlement and legends of Vinland (Newfoundland) could be cool to see and I haven't seen any history RU-vidrs do it.

This the type of stuff I watch at 3am, great video anyways. I really like how you are going in depth on the history of rather unknown islands. It’s something not a lot of people would do because it’s probably very hard to find information.

I love remote islands! I always find myself looking at google earth and finding islands that I can research/or RU-vid. That’s how I found your channel! Really happy that I did because your research is on point. Thanks for the content and knowledge. I’ll make sure to binge your entire RU-vid catalog.

I discovered this island from Tomb Raider Underworld when I was 11 I used to be obsessed with that game and so I didn’t know if it was real and I looked at it and so I was surprised it was real and actually just like it too. In tomb raider it was snowy

Very interesting and thank you, amazing the amount of history in what is now a 'small insignificant' island. However considering the number of names Jan Mayan has had, I hereby declare that from now the island will now be known as: Malcolm Abram Island

I came here from the Svalbad show. It was interesting that Robert Fotherby named it after Sir Thomas Smith 1st Governor of British East Inda Company. A company that sometimes had more power than governments in many parts of the world they occupied. The company may make for a good video because it covers the world. Happy Trails

Very interesting! But ... the Video sequence in the background isn't from Jan Mayen, it shows Dyrhólaey, Iceland (the rock formations in the background), seen from black Reynisfjara beach, Vík í Mýrdal, Iceland. I've been there and I recognized it at once

Good and informal video. Thanks. Have you done a video on Bouvet Island? Also Norwegian, but located on the other side of the planet between South Africa and Antarctica. It's the most remote island in the world. Peter I Island is another one, located 450km from continental Antarctica. Norway also own a huge piece of land (2.7 million sq.km) called Queen Maud Land on the continent of Antarctica. Not a huge amount of history tied to these locations but it should be more than enough for a lengthy video at least. Some of it's history is quite fascinating, and the fact that Norway's biggest border is not with Sweden, but Australia :)

The background isn't even Jan Mayen. It's a black beach in southern Iceland which I recognized at once because of the rock formations in the background, because I've been there. This is Reynisfjara beach in Vík í Mýrdal, Iceland, and the rock formation is called Dyrhólaey.

Wikipedia gives the life of St Brendan as 484 - 577 but you say 587 which would make him 103 when he died which seems unlikely.
@BradleyGearhart
@BradleyGearhart 4 года назад
Good catch! This is something that did not catch my attention when I did my research. As strange as it may seem, I did find a few sources online which state his death was in 587. I could not tell you how accurate the dates are though. - stairnaheireann.net/2016/05/16/587-death-of-transatlantic-voyager-st-brendan-the-navigator/ - landmarkevents.org/history-highlight-week-of-may-14/

I appreciate the criticism. I’m still trying to learn how to make videos. I’m not one to make flashy content but I’ll try to make my voice sound more natural in my newer videos. As for content, this video is meant to be only an overview of the history of Jan Mayen. If you have any more critiques or recommendations I’d be glad to hear them. :)
