A mention or example of Thomas Cole and the Hudson River School of Painting would have fit in nicely.

Didn't know about chinese landscapes from 10th century, the cons of studying in Europe. Thank you for the video.

@@slbarsness whats the painting at 2:50?
@slbarsness
@slbarsness Год назад
@@zackgravity7284 That is by Casper David Friedrich - 19th C Symbolist painter. And MY mistake - I call it a seascape. But those are mountains. See the scathing criticism below!

@@slbarsness thank you. I remember seeing it before and it gave me strong emotions and have been searching for it ever since

Thank you for sharing this knowledge with us. I got a question though Why do the paintings of the old masters still look outstanding compared to the modern day paintings? it is as if we have the skeleton of what's left of the good Old days. There is no life breathing in the modern paintings in my opinion.

That is not a seascape. Those are mountains. How can you lecture on landscape and not know that?
@slbarsness

Can you tell me exactly what you are referring to with the time in the video? I don't recall using the word seascape but I may have misspoken. If you are talking about the first image, I definitely refer to it as a landscape.

At 4:53 you refer to it as a sea scape and refer to crashing waves.

@@paulconn7849 That is a good catch! I have been looking at that painting for a long time and completely mis-seeing it! But look again....you might see what I saw.
