I feel like the walkers would become less of an issue in real life as people get over their fear and learn how to quickly take them down. My favourite group of villains is the whisperers because in a very creative way, they combine the threat of humans with the threat of walkers. The changes the writers made for the show from the comics worked back then, but they didn't later on in the show. It's insane to me how Gimple is basically the reason for TWD's rise and fall. He wrote some of the best episodes and took the show in an incredible direction in season 4 and 5 which made it one of the most popular shows on TV. But his decisions after that ruined the show and caused it's decline, and I really dont understand how the same man is responsible for this.
@danielleos3593
@danielleos3593 2 года назад
I agree, but many things aside Gimple also affected TWD, let’s not forget that TV audience has decreased since then, and TWD is another example of something becoming so popular that it turns into a victim of itself (actors and actresses leaving, poor decision making, budgets, etc.)
@NikkiRen

I kind of compare it to “Game of Thrones”. The show runners did an amazing job in the beginning, even with the changes in the adaptations, but then they started just screwing it all up. No clue what goes through their minds when they make these decisions.

30:09 This scene is like, 10 times more emotional if you read the novels **SPOILERS for The Fall of the governor part 2** Lilly had a miscarriage before the attack, she shot Lori because The Governor forced her and she thought that Lori was carrying supplies, not a baby; Lilly then sees the body and becomes rightfully enraged, then kills him. The books are in the same universe of the comics, so it is really dark, but I still recommend it for those how like the comics.

Very slowly she turns and scorches him with such a contemptuous look that it nearly takes his breath away. She utters something that he doesn’t hear at first, his one-eyed gaze held rapt by her blazing stare. “What was that?” he demands of her, his single gloved hand balling into a fist. “You monster,” she says again, louder this time, through clenched teeth. The Governor goes very still, serpentine-still, a boa coiling itself in the presence of a threat-all this in spite of the looming threat of the horde filling the general vicinity with the odor of rotten meat and the sound of broken gears grinding and groaning. Very carefully, enunciating every word, the Governor says, “What. The. Fuck. Did. You. Just. Say to me?” Austin whirls toward the Governor and raises his gun as though trying to decide whom to shoot. “I said,” Lilly Caul barks at him, her words like darts now, projectiles aimed at his face, fueled by scalding tears tracking down her face, “you are a fucking monster! LOOK AT WHAT YOU MADE ME DO?!” Without tearing her gaze from him, she gestures down at the murdered woman and baby, the pathetic carnage joined in the eternal bond of mother clutching child to her bosom. “JUST FUCKING LOOK!!” He does look now, and he does see, and maybe for the first time since he took control of Woodbury, Georgia-since he became the Governor-the man who calls himself Philip Blake does sees the consequences of his actions. “F-fuck,” he utters to himself, his voice drowned by the clamor of gunfire staving off the pitiless, rotting, hellish onslaught now bearing down on them. “A baby!” Lilly roars at him. “A BABY!” She turns her gun around and slams the butt into the Governor’s face. The pain shoots up the bridge of his noise, the impact making a wet thud that momentarily blinds him and drives him to the ground. “YOU MADE ME KILL A FUCKING BABY!” The Governor flops onto his back and tries to sit up, but his head is ringing like an alarm, the dizziness washing over him and stealing his breath. “W-what are you-?” Lilly Caul turns the barrel of her Remington around and lunges at him. She rams the blue-steel muzzle into his mouth hard enough to crack two of his front teeth. The barrel lodges itself so deep in his throat that it forces a strangled gag out of him. Lilly’s finger starts to tighten on the trigger. Philip Blake’s single eye finds her eyes. The entire world seems to stop-time standing still-as if hell has at last frozen over. -The Fall of the Governor Part 2: Chapter 16, Page 183

@@Azazreal honestly like these videos but when I saw that it seem to me he only has keen eyes only on the show, got confused about how michonne missed, probably didn't know about the for The Fall of the governor and lilly stuff weird for a big TWD fan. also, he seem to gloss over the comics sometimes just dismissing it as not being overly emotional as the show, he even barely talk about how badly andrea's was ruined or any actual emotional scenes like when carl asked where his mom and sister were after the horror etc but spend plenty of times gushing over music? (not that the music isn't good but I don't think it has impact on the actual show), seemingly loving characters mostly because of the actors (not saying the acting is bad but pretty face doesn't excuse bad writing especially when they act out of character), drawn out deaths because in real life people get to have full speeches and foreshadowing before death and fillers that mostly go nowhere. maybe I'm misunderstanding or bias sorry but I still can't wait for the next video.

I guess I should've elaborated more on that. Though on the other hand - yeah, getting shot yourself isn't too much either and you can also argue that the panel of her behind him is literally like a 1/1000 of a second and that's why she didn't get a good shot in.

I personally prefer the comic version of the fight in the prison, characters are dying like flies, the first person to die in the comic was Axel who had great popularity even Kirkman said that he regrets killing him, having andrea out of the prison also adds more tension to the conflict (as andrea is basically the god of snipers in the comic), the group relying on Billy was kind of cool as he was the second best shooter, and Lily having the chance to kill the Governor was very interesting,and i wouldn't call this something that cames out of nowhere, because a good chunk of the woodbury soldiers are seeing struggling during the conflict, for example the one that kills billy is seeing crying after killing him realising that he kill just a boy and then gets insulted by the gobernor for showing weakness, and then when Hershel after losing his younger son just gives up the soldiers of woodbury ignore him because he was no treat, the governor is the one who keeps insults his soldiers and executes him, also i really find intersting the comic version of Hershel he wasn't this wise figure like the show version but a person that keeps failing his family, Shawn (his oldest son) dies because he didn't listen to him about securing the fences in the farm, Lacey and Arnold died because he decided that the walkers could still be cured, Susie and Lacey died because he went to the prison and abandon his farm , and Billy dies because they think that defending the prison was the bettter choise, so the panel when he finally gives up and says "Dear,God...please just kill me" hits really hard

Some people really need to accept the fact that The Walking Dead isn't about zombies, it's about people, in fact The Walking Dead refers to humans, not the zombies ("We are The Walking Dead"). It's a show about survival, morality, family, community, sacrifice, loss, emotions, how people are the biggest threat, not the walkers. The zombie apocalypse is the setting for the show, walkers are always in the background but the majority of the drama and conflict comes from people. Only when there are hundreds of walkers in one place do they really become a threat. I mean think about it. The characters have been killing walkers and surviving in this world for years to the point that walkers arent that threatening anymore because they are skilled and adept at killing them. Unless they got overwhelmed or are in a situation where they cant fight back, of course theyre not going to be as much of a threat as in early seasons where they didnt really know what they were doing. I dont really know what people expect honestly. People still get bit but not as often and humans can use herds to their advantage. If you just want to see people killing zombies and zombies killing people, go watch a 2 hour long zombie movie, but that isnt what TWD is and I wish people would STFU about it especially after 11 years!
@mullaoslo
@mullaoslo 2 года назад
It pisses me off as well.. This is supposed to be a "realistic" take on a zombie outbreak and in the real world as well the most dangerous time when it comes to the walkers are the first days/weeks /months.. After the initial shock they would just become another predator we had to adapt to and eventually you would have people in the apocalypse who had never seen a walker..
@bishbosh4815
@bishbosh4815 2 года назад
@@mullaoslo exactly! If walkers were the only threat in this show then it would be get so boring and repetitive, which some people already argue it is. Like I said people still get bit but characters are skilled enough to take on multiple walkers by themselves or as a team, we've seen herds as big as a football stadium and people that blend in with walkers and can control them. Like what else do people want? Walkers that are more dangerous, harder to kill, smart and faster? Well after 11 years they might finally get their wish 🤣
@BoogSReviews
@BoogSReviews 2 года назад
I completely agree! I think that’s why world beyond and fear are teasing a new type of Walker. So many people have complained about the walkers not being a big enough threat anymore and stopped watching or whatever so I think the writers listened to people and try to introduce a new threat. I like the human threats because if you think about it, the apocalypse just gave all the wrong people the right power to do whatever they want and be as evil as they can.

Small thing. In the comic you can actually see in the panel that when Michonne misses her shot at the governor it's because she herself is shot in the shoulder, knocking her aim off target. The riot armor protects her from most of the injury this would cause, but as bullets still have an incredible amount of power and energy behind them, it makes total sense that she would be knocked off target. And to be fair, she DOES in fact hit the governor, but rather than being a kill shot it merely grazes him

One thing I never understood were the walkers at the prison. Most notably when they were dealing with all the walkers gathering at the fence and threatening to knock it down. They could have eliminated the entire threat literally by spending a half a day and taking them out one by one. Half dozen of our group could have spread out around the perimeter fence and simply got the walkers attention and took them out one by one with tire irons and knives. Always made me laugh when they just let the walkers gather up and knock the fence over when that issue could have been solved so simply.

The answer a question "I don’t understand how Michonne could miss at point blank range" the panel actually depicts her being his in the shoulder by a bullet, the word PING bouncing off her riot gear. I know it's show vs comics, not a show vs novels, but I'd like to point out a couple things that the show adapted from the books rather than the comics, which I think was a very clever use of adaptation seeing as how they didn't NEED to use the stuff from the novels, but used it in fun ways to tie it into their story. Also, I don't think I need to clarify, but for some reason I sometimes see people think the two are in the same universe which... confuses me? But just to be clear, the novels are in the comic's universe, not the TV show. If you haven't read Rise of the Governor, I'll try to leave out important spoilers, but maybe be cautious? I don't think it's SUPER important, but that's just me. In the novel, Brian is actually the Governor's real name, taking the name Philip from his brother later right around when Woodbury's getting started. This is kinda swapped in the show, where his real name is Philip, but takes the name Brian. Both names are obviously used in the show, but his brother is never mentioned. In the book, he, Philip, Penny (who's actually Philip's daughter), and one of Philip's friends all travel to Atlanta, and after a run-in with walkers, end up staying with a family who's also in the city. This family consists of April Chalmers, her sister Tara, and their sick father David (and though she dies around five years before the apocalypse and is only mentioned in passing, I think it's kinda fun that April's mother was named Lillian, short for Lilly). It's not a super direct adaptation, as events do go differently, but there are still similarities. The family is somewhat same with the exception of Lilly being April and no Meghan, as well as Tara being very, very different from the TV version. Some events go kind of similar too as Philip ends up getting together with April (though that doesn't end well) like how the Governor gets with Lilly (doesn't end well either, but in a different way). David is sick with lung cancer in both versions and needs an oxygen tank to survive, dying from his sickness and attacking Tara after he turns into a walker. Philip kills him in the novel while Tara holds kind of a grudge against him. The group is eventually forced to leave by Tara after events between Philip and April, which I won't get into because it's kinda spoilery? Some might not see it as a spoiler, but it affects Philip's character in a certain way and sends him down a path that sets up some other stuff. After that, we don't see April or Tara ever again. Only a little bit was taken from that part of the book, which spans about five or six chapters, but I still thought it was cool how they adapted some stuff. Bob is another one. Yeah, this was kinda mentioned in the video, but he's more of a character in the books. He doesn't really show up at all in the comics after fixing up the Governor as he goes to do all that tank go boom stuff. At the moment, I've only read Rise of the Governor and Road to Woodbury, so I'm just going off of what I remember from that second book, but I'm sure there's some stuff in Fall of the Governor for this too. Bob Stookey shares the same name as his comic and book counter-part, and also some similar traits. They both served in the military as field-medics and also struggle with drinking. The drinking is a smaller bit to his character in the TV show, but it's seen with Zach's death and when he steals some while on that mission with Daryl, Michonne, and Tyreese. Besides that, from what I remember, the two are basically different, but I think it's fun how they worked him into an actual character on the other side. Those are the only two I can think of since or speak for since I've yet to read the other novels. Sorry for how long this stupid comment is, you a real one if you read this far.

I have to say I've always loved the prison arc in the comments it's honestly my favorite part of the comics. It's brutal and barbaric nature is intense, and genuinely frightening. People are still just trying to figure out the new world. It also showcases what complacency can do to a person, being shielded from the world, getting comfortable. Can get very dangerous for the group. Keep up the great videos man, love TWD content P.S. Tank go boom

My guy, your videos have been super entertaining. I’m not usually into people talking about shows or anything, but you’ve done an excellent job with this series so far. Good work. So I picked up the Walking Dead comics about this time the show came out. At first, I was trying to find individual comics at the library but then when they put the compendiums out, I was able to read them. Maybe it was really season 4 when I found them but I’m just going to say it was about this time that I was looking at both the show and the book. I was so pleased with how much of the show was going. I felt like the show writers were keeping true to the setting of the story without letting spoilers or knowledge ruin the story. I wasn’t sure WHO would get bit because they seemed to change it up just in case anyone was trying to ruin it for their friends. It definitely made me enjoy it a lot more during this time of the show. I didn’t realize how important Andrea would become so I wasn’t concerned with how her arc went in the show, and I didn’t really care that they changed some of the character cast. It was like… watching Rick have to navigate two different worlds that were closely aligned. It was kinda cool to see how things changed or didn’t change. It wasn’t until mid-Negan that I started getting bothered by the changes. Anyways, amazing work, guy. Keep this up, please.

I actually prefer for walkers to become less important. The group over the years would definitely learn how to fight the walkers and how to stop being scared of them. While the walkers should be important in season 1-2. By 3 or 4 I think the walkers shouldn't be seen as much of a threat anymore. Rick and a few people in Alexandria literally take on an entire hoard with melee weapons in 6x9.

I find it odd you mentioned the novels but didn’t mention them when talking about Bob. You said his character wasn’t fleshed out in the comic canon but he absolutely was in several books as he rose to leadership in the revived Woodbury alongside Lilly. Also the books are pretty important, without them there would have been no Tara, no Lilly( because the show was an amalgam of April/Lilly), and no Governor subplot in season 4.

My main issue with the walkers is more about the characters themselves because even starting in this season, they start making really dumb decisions for no reason. Oh man there are a lot of walkers stacking around this fence. Do we kill them since it would probably only take like 4 hours total to solve the issue or do we reinforce the wall and not kill them for no reason? Like in later seasons with Hilltop where if they literally just got a long stick and sharpened the end they could deal with all of the walkers outside the wall but they just don't and let them stack up to become a bigger problem until the wall eventually breaks down.

The importance of walkers are to make sure there is a continuous threat and a build a story around them it's mostly just on the survivors that's what it should be but the threat of walkers you know the horde coming and you have to move it around or you have to free or share up a gate or somebody else I'm unlocked that's what it's there for

As a person who watched the show first and binge read the comics for the first time just after the series ended (so I got to experience the entire story with no gaps), I can say I was very surprised by how devastating the attack was in the comics. In the show, in retrospect, it feels less like a major blow and more like a plot point that killed off one of the main characters for plot-related reasons (there’s no way the production team would cope with disabled Hershel on the road if they couldn’t deal with Rick’s missing hand). I also found that in the comics the downfall of the prison and deaths of the characters could be pinned on Rick much more so than in the show which I found made Rick more interesting, that he could majorly get it wrong at times but couldn’t afford to let his losses eat him up since he and the group had to keep going. I think in the show it was treated too much as spectacle (especially OC fanfic Gary Stu insert Daryl singlehandedly crippling a tank), while the comics treated it as a loss. Granted I do love show Hershel, but his death was more romanticised as he took on a near-holy presence in the rest of the characters’ lives, with that continuing after his death with cheesy flashbacks later on. I think I preferred the cold brutality of his death in the comics. No one was there to share gaze with him or to say a final word (or speech I guess), he died alone knowing his last surviving son was dead and not knowing the fate of his last surviving child, Maggie. But that’s just my opinion. Just thought to put it out there that as a person who watched this event in the show long before reading the comics I came to prefer it in the comics.

People have complained for years about the walkers taking a back seat to the threat of other survivors. I would argue that's the entire point of the show and comic. The walkers were always the catalyst for the story, not the story themselves. Rick says in both the show and comic "We are the walking dead". Because the story is about the survivors surviving and building civilization back up, not about the walkers. Also, after so many years of them dealing with walkers, they wouldn't be that big of a threat anyway.

Daryl's plot armor with the tank you didn't mention even just prior to that Daryl using a 100 lb lumpy fleshed walker being used as a shield as dozens of bullets somehow don't go through said walker & Daryl isn't shot. Meanwhile moments earlier Bob has a bullet go right through his shoulder.

The flu arc is really underrated. It's ''filler'' but it's used to develop the characters and also I think it was fresh, interesting and a good idea greatly executed. The final attack to the prision, in my opinion, is much better on the show. I feel it has more emotion and depth. Yes, we only lose one character, but I think the way it's done has more value than a tons of deads. Great video, I love your analysis, such an amazing work.

Oh hell yeah it’s out! Can’t wait to watch this! Probably gonna make an edit to this comment to display my thoughts after I finish the video. Edit: Didn’t know that the prison was built for the series. That’s an interesting fact. I like what they did with Bob Stookey and I think that was a smart change between the comics and the show. Lizzie and Mika were nice additions to the show. The Grove was one of my favorite episodes of Season 4. The walkers stacking on the fence was a nice way to establish the walkers as still a threat without making them ridiculous. I think the importance of walkers later on on both the comics and the tv show is done well. I didn’t mind them showing how other survivor groups were bad for awhile and how the walkers took a back seat in the comics and the tv show. I do think the comics handled it better as I found it much more creepier. Fully agree with you on the deviation the tv show did with Rick sending Carol away. I’m so happy Carol is better in the television show. Also agree about Hershel’s story in this season. This was a great video and I really liked watching it! Can’t wait for the next part!
