SARGAM is one of the biggest blockbusters of Hindi cinema. It is a musical family drama set in the seventies, based on Indian classical dance. The movie is still enjoyed and loved today. Even though it is a 45-year old film, it doesn't look jaded. It looks quite modern in making and technicalities. Indian cinema was the best between sixtees and eighties, when they were truly Indian and made by truly educated, cultured, knowledgeable people who knew proper filmmaking. You saw the difference yourself before between the two songs of modern Umraojaan by Aishwarya Rai - which was a rubbish, flop film and the original Rekha's Umraojaan from the eighties, which is considered a classic.

I don’t think this is a fringe pursuit. I grew up watching movies that were made in the 50s, 60s and 70s which were made way before I was born. As a child of immigrant parents in Australia, this was my dads way of keeping us in touch with our own culture. Plus he loves movies. I also love old Hollywood movies. We used to have a tv show hosted by Bill Collins who presented 2 old Hollywood movies every Saturday back in the 80s and 90s. He would give us a back story of each movie before presenting it and I used to be fascinated by his depth of knowledge about old Hollywood. So I don’t think it’s a fringe pursuit. Having said that I have a friend who has never heard of Frank Sinatra…go figure! 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

No, i dont think young generation will be aware of this film. It was a popular film of its times. May not be remembered now much. Rishi kapoor used to immerse himself depicting playing instrument or singing so one felt he actually knew how to play the instrument. Jayaprada was classically trained dancer. Might be her debut hindi film. Karz was a good movie haunting melody, ballads.

Yes it was a popular movie when it was released. When Rishi Kapoor played the dafli the audience in cinema halls threw money as a token of appreciation. It was a success and Jaya pradas career in Bollywood started wid this movie.Loved ur reaction❤
