A Brutal Clash Between Fischer and His Greatest American Adversary! 

I heard a great story about Fischer and Reshevsky's attitude to each other. Apparently in one tournament Bobby decided not to play and left (I believe the sky was the wrong shade of blue). His clock was started, however, and by the time Bobby decided to return to the tournament, his clock was an hour in. An official told him, "You only have 10 minutes" to which he replied, "I don't need a whole ten minutes to beat Reshevsky", and waited another 5 minutes before starting the game. He won.

What a great battle that was.. as well as a great presentation by the commentator here.

Amazing! All Bobby needed was one lost tempo from Reshevsky to win this fascinating endgame.

Reshevsky played this Endgame just like I would have against Fischer - he fouled it up! 😂

Reshevsky was a nonprofessional Chessplayer whose talent allowed him to often play well but was well past his prime when Fischer came on the scene. Still the clash between upcoming dogged professional and talented but older amateur was interesting as it marked the transition of American chess from aging amateurs to young professionals.

Thanks ChessDawg for this video. I like watching your channel because you say things newer players must learn and experienced players must never forget. Excellent pure gold chess theory such as: Rooks belong behind passed pawns. Rooks crave open files. Passed pawns MUST be pushed. You know who said that one, eh, ChessDawg? If I don't reinforce what I already know, I can fall into bad chess habits and these young whippersnappers nowadays would take advantage of this old goat. Just because I now have 60, that's SIXTY, years of playing chess, doesn't mean I can be lax and forget theory. My endgame SUCKS! Its gotten better over the last decade but still sometimes, during a post game autopsy, I say to myself these chess theory understandings to keep my blades sharp! Try me, youngwhippersnappers! wow that's an interesting game. Somehow I have only seen its endgame before (from Rxe8 on). Looks a bit like one of those Kasparov-Karpov games; a rook, a knight and a pawn working together can be pretty dangerous against a king. Rc6 is very counterintuitive though, hard to imagine what Sammy was thinking.
