I love how Atta tells Flik “I’m so proud of you” after everything. He’s just been so badly berated and beaten; it must be a great comfort to hear some words of affirmation from a person in authority after all that suffering and peril at the hands of another authority figure.
1. I love how the Princess has internalized what Hopper said when she tried to blame Flick at the start of the movie for the lost harvest. "No, it wasn't my fault...." "FIRST RULE OF LEADERSHIP, everything is your fault." And in this scene, she has accepted what Hopper said at the start as true and at :28 and takes full responsibility for the idea. 2. Hopper's major concern isn't how, why, what, or when but _WHOSE_ idea this was. He wants to know which ant is spreading these rebellious ideas and squash them in front of everyone. The most self-aware, genre-savvy Pixar villain of all time.
may i raise you an opposing view? id argue that LOTSO🧸💗 was the most self sufficient and genre-savvy amongst all pixar villains. it’s been said before. and i agree. frankly. i think the way he commanded the toys in both the daycare AND the newcomers from andy/bonnie’s collection shows how he knows how to work peoples minds🧠 he is a master manipulator. he had them believing he was good. that he was salvation. he took the trust and twisted it. he was the pixar villain that got closest to KILLING💀 his opponents. LOTSO🧸💗 on top. frankly.
The why and the when (the what is the subject) doesn't matter, because they're obvious and were going to pop up at any moment, what matters is suppressing it everytime. You constantly watch your back
Ants dominate most areas they live in. Other insects avoid them because it's a death sentence to engage them. However, that is exactly what Hopper does not want the colony to realize. As long as he can portray to them that they are weak and helpless, they can be pushed around and made to serve him out of fear. Like the bully he is.
I once saw a documentary where a decapiated ant tried to decapitate another ant, so it was just a severed head biting the neck of an enemy ant. Girl was literally too angry to die.
Hopper's lucky it was Flik and not Inferno who acted FOR THE ROYALTYYYY!!!! BURN, MAXIMALS, _BURRRNNNN!!!!_ AAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!!!! (cough) er, I mean...yeah...
i loved when flick stood up to hopper. he was so brave. as a kid, i was super inspired and found the courage to stand up to my own bullies. thank you flick❤
This part not only brings out the ruthlessness in Hopper, but the ferality of Thumper as well, even when you consider that Hopper literally unleashed Thumper to beat down Flik. Also, in this part, Flik stood up against Hopper to defend Dot, Princess Atta, and the blueberry scouts. Earlier, Flik defended Dot against Hopper when he, Hopper, attempted to feed Dot to Thumper.
Not necessarily the animation, as it is the lighting. The brighter parts of this film look like what you'd expect from 2000s pixar, however their lighting helped amplify the overall design for sure.
The commanding tone in Flik's voice when he says to leave her alone, and the conviction he expresses when he proudly tells him that the bird was his idea, proves who should really be leading the colony
"ants are not meant to serve grasshopppers." 1:42 "And you know it, don't you?" 😅😅😅 He said what it's true and that really makes Hopper ticked off. Serves Hopper right. 2:20
I get chills everytime he stands up and thereafter the princess joins him and all the ants join their arms. Such a great underrated Pixar movie ! A long lost time when Disney knew how to make movies that made us dream.
That moment when hopper knows flik is right the way his eyes blinked and gaze drifted in different directions for oh so briefly is such a genius and charming detail and one we are not likely gonna get in future films like this. It also shows an undeniable charm and likability to hopper as a villain yes he’s a villain and ye he’s unforgivable but he’s a villain who’s knows his limits and recognized the threat should he slip up. A villain who knows his limits and knows what’s at stake and not blinded by his own power and arrogance too much anyway is something I can always respect.
"I hate when some gives away the ending." Earlier in the movie, Hopper got mad at Molt for telling about the bird eats the grasshopper. Molt was foreshadowing the ending of the movie.
If this was in the Ant Bully, Zoc would’ve fought the Grasshoppers, like from Barnyard when Otis was fighting the Coyotes. And when Dag bit Otis on the leg while fighting the Coyotes, Hopper would’ve stabbed Zoc from behind while Zoc was fighting the Grasshoppers to protect Flik, Hova, Lucas, and the colonies.
and if this was Antz, hopper would have been made an example of in front of the colony by General Mandible soon as he tried anything, probably wouldn't have tried anything to begin with, a 30-something gang of grasshoppers vs a trained ant army in the tens of thousands who, each individually equal the strength of a bugs life grasshopper and took on the termite army consisting of a thousand relative acid shooting man-eating tanks? not even a question there, and forget about air superiority for the grasshoppers, we saw from several scenes from Antz that their colony has a highly capable flying ant battalion, to summarise, Hopper would be completely cooked from the get go going up against the Antz colony
The whole ant colony (except for Dot) ALL owe Flik a HUGE apology after this scene in A Bug's Life (1998) since if it wasn't for Flik, then the ants all would've been slaves to the grasshoppers for all eternity and even executed by them later on. Especially since it was Flik who stood up to the grasshoppers, defeated most of them, save the queen from being executed by Hopper, and even motivated the ant colony to fight back against the grasshoppers to begin with.
The sound that grasshoper makes immediately after is a stock sound I clearly remember from the Pink Panther shorts, a dog barked like that when his master hit him with a newspaper
Princess Atta: “You see Hopper, Nature has a certain order. The ants pick the food, the ants keep the food, and the grasshoppers leave!” Me: “And the birds eat the grasshoppers.”
Really shows how good of an ant Flik was. Despite being hated. Despite having turned their backs on him. He still stood up for them and saw the greatness within them.
As great and fearsome as Hopper is as a Villain, when he said: “mindless soil shoving losers” I found the word “Loser” really cheesy and childish, he should’ve said: “You are mindless soil shoving slaves, you serve us every season. And in return we protect you from bigger bugs.” then the rest should’ve continued as normal.
One single grasshoper kick should be enough to obliterate an ant, but Flik takes like 6 hits and still survives, my man is an absolute superdurable, armored chad
These are clearly much stronger insects than normal, probably radiation caused, due to the ants missing two legs and the grasshoppers legs bend the wrong way.
@@bugloverspiderlover8490 Probaly it's just the design to made them more childish, but radioactive mutant insects sounds cool so it's now canon in my head
@@brettz5288Right,Princess Atta had to go out there. She caught Flik’s attention 1st.Each had guilt;madness in them! The most guilty one was Princess Atta. After she took it back, the colony did! They finally felt that way about Flik.
@@manuelfuentespardo8102True;Princess Atta looked at Hopper angrily to.Proved she felt most guilty about Flik! You can tell she loved her mom;also him.She didn’t want to lose neither one!
What I like most about this part is that Flick really took a ass whoopin, even after being beaten he still stood up and said what was on his chest, shows how much heart flick really had💯💯💯
Hot take, but read it out. The Colony was just as bad to Flick as the grasshoppers were to the ants. They lied to Flick to get him to leave and not come back, instead of just honestly and openly banishing him. Then after all he has done for the colony, he tries so hard to keep it all going for folks that hate him, something I absolutely refuse to do. Then, after they do actually kick Flick out, they just believe they dederve to he saved by him after they were happy to use his inventions and rip on him if they didn't work? Yeah screw the colony, if I were Flick, I would've left that colony behind forever and let the grasshoppers have it. The colony treated their smartest and hardest worker like absolute dogsht, then after so much cheek spreading, so much cowardly compliance to Hopper, that NOW they're gonna fight back?! I love this movie, it's a brain scratcher for sure, but really go back and live in Flicks life, and you understand the average working man in their lives, and why everything is falling apart. The Colony represents the hive minded cowardice of the collective. The moral lessons this film tries to give us, is called slave morality. Where ONLY because there's a large group of life, that by default, those lives have value when they don't. Lives that don't matter (greedy self absorbed, and cowardly) telling Flick, the one life that does, (he is the smartest, the kindest, bravest, and the most loyal) that HE is the problem, WHILE expecting to benefit from his ideas while they keep him down and kick him out, would you go back and save the colony?! No? Well welcome to the real life situations we now find ourselves in. Flick the average man, the colony is SOYciety, and Hopper is the government, I root for the average man personlly.
Now that I think about it, the colony are very hypocritical. They lied to Flick to get him out of their hair, yet when Flick lied about the circus bugs, his ass is grass. And i honestly would’ve left the colony as well, if they’re going to treat me like shit, then I’m leaving and never coming back.
It's because they used the T-Rex's sound in the movie. And the best thing is that they made the bug sound very intimidating. Never underestimate the underdogs, because they always come out on top.
🎵Well, I know what’s right… I got just one life… in a world that keeps on pushing me around, but I stand my ground… and I won’t back down. Hey baby, there ain’t no easy way out… hey I will stand my ground, and I won’t back down.🎵
You don't usually see characters in PG movies get beaten up like Flik. This scene always stood out to me because of how brutal it is. This dude got truly beat on, you FEEL his life is in danger. He's visually, physically wounded, and he STILL stands up for what's right.
Not just Spacey. Pretty much all of the worst people Hollywood have hired, defended, and glorified would have that statement be their true feelings about their victims.
Yet even monsters like him are taken down when numbers come into play. Really gives a new perspective on how Quality isn't automaticly better than Quantity.
@@Katie-ci6yxmario: I sense of those great things, and year after they somehow to collect food for themselves end you, so who will be the weeker spices, ants, animals, nintendo characters, nickelodeon characters, and others don't serve Grasshoppers, and villains it's you who needs us.
Flik standing up to Hopper's without a doubt one of the best moments in any Pixar movie considering that it shows that he's had enough of his tyrannical behavior and decides to put an end to it by convincing the ant colony and the circus bugs to stand up to Hopper and his gang.
