Some of the best games I've DMd were free form / improvised. One game I managed to get one player to break his nose on the desk, he was so frustrated when he finally solved a puzzle. Through the blood and watering eyes, he told me it was the best game he'd ever played. (truth be told, he had broken his nose a week earlier, he just re-fractured it. It was spectacular nevertheless).

I'm so happy that "Internet shouty men" is a phrase I now know.

I thought that the first Mario episode and the last Mario episode really exemplified how you grew up. In almost a musical, nonverbal way. Watching both shows, one after another was quite an experience.

Hoping that when you start your next project, whatever and whenever that may be, you'll drop something onto this channel so we can all flock to it like a swarm of knowledge-devouring virtual locusts.

Sorry I didn't say it in the Q&A, but: What is your opinion of Reigen's (Mob psycho 100) work ethics? I mean he is lying to every single customer, however he does fix the problems that they come with. for example, one customer had shoulder pain, and a mystic simply told her she had a spirit haunting her shoulder. Reigen said to himself how irresponsible that mystic was, and went on with that lie, but instead of leaving her, he gave her an amaizing massage that fixed her real problem and much more, along with a great placebo treatment.

I am sad that this channel is ending, but I REEEAAALLLY can't wait to see what "market gap" you fill next, Mike.

I'm in a partnership, with enough paperwork to might as well be married, and I often wonder whether we should marry or not. Like do I even want to, and if so why? Society, an earnest desire, do I not want to because of some millennial marriage doesn't mean anything bs? Like, if you rate commitment by how hard it is to get out of the relationship, between paperwork and communal property, a partnership is equally committed. So why? This is genuine curiosity and not meant as any criticism of your decision to marry. PS congrats! ^_^

It is usually causally related to vibrations in the air, but if no being capable of perceiving sound is present, I don't believe there is any sound. If you wish to classify those vibrations in the air as sound, what would you call the phenomenon of sound itself as we know it?

For a Good GM Check out "Robin's Laws for Good Game Mastering" it's a solid foundation and is only about 36 pages very easy but content dense read. and if you can find it there is a complementary paper (Somewhere on the interwebz) "Uncle Figlies guide to for being a good player" it's easy to forget that it is a two-way interaction and finding the right players is just as important as having a good GM. And your right, make a nice flexible plan, Execute that plan, then scrap it when they inevitably do something crazy like kiss the red dragon.

Ha! I totally guessed which philosopher he'd duck out on before he said it. I'd duck out on him, too! But I had no idea about the others, so only 1 out of 4 right.

You know, people tend to use railroading as a dirty word, and I often disagree, but I think that you highlighted something really important in that conversation when you talk about weaving in players desire to "go off-script", as it were. I've never been shy about letting my players know that I am, in a sense, railroading them, because I only have so much time to prepare each week and P&P RPGs have almost unlimited freedom by their very natures. But I also always do my best to disguise the railroading as best I can, and my players have always been happy enough to play along. If there is a macguffin in the castle on the hill, and I've taken time to fill it with monsters and deadly encounters, but my players are super enamored with a one-off line I made about a local cemetery, I'll sometimes just... move the map of the castle into a hidden complex under the cemetery. I get to save a lot of work, the players get to feel rewarded for trusting their instincts, and everyone has a good time. But that's also why I think that the hallmark of a good GM is communication. It might sound obvious, but the number of times I've sat down at a table without discussing what sort of game everyone else wants to play is kind of staggering, and usually leads to bad times. Sometimes, I want to play (or run) a classic high-fantasy adventure, where the heroes are heroic and the villains laugh maniacally. If I sit down with someone who is expecting a grimdark morally grey tale, and someone else who wants a goofy romp where they set things on fire for fun, nobody is gonna have a good time. The reason my players most often allow me to get away with railroading when I feel it's necessary is that they want to play the same kind of game I want to play. And they know that if I go out of my way to make sure they end up somewhere (or, more often that not, make sure that somewhere ends up where they are going) is because I've got something fun in store for them. And that's only possible because I know my players and let them shape my expectations for the game as much as I try and shape theirs.

I totally talk to my dog like he's a person. He's a German Shephard named Sherlock and he totally responds to me, though usually it appears to be much more intelligent than I bet it actually is... or is it... Sometimes he even attempts to talk back in human-speak. Actually he waits for the pauses between my sentences and then attempts to mown in a human-voice-like manner. Super cute but wholely ineffective.

OH MY GOD!!!! Mike, the only question I would have asked (and never would, because I thought there would be a lack of interest) related to Shadowrun: Hong Kong. If you're not familiar with the Rakter storyline, here it is in (very) brief: An NPC admits to the fact that his transhumanist goals are no doubt directly linked to what he believes is psychopathy. His reason for wanting to replace his corporeal being with something mechanical, he admits, may have something to do with the fact that he feels no empathy for living people. I always thought it would be an interesting thing to explore in a public dialogue, but my impression of Shadowrun was that it was largely disliked (too dystopian for some, some people I've spoken to are religiously furious about it corrupting cyberpunk as a genre [more fantasy than cyberpunk], some roleplayers felt it was too busy...). It's a shame I never asked when had the chance. I might not have, anyway. Good to know, though, that I could have asked.

Also what kind of guitars do you have? :)

You should check out Defenders Quest on steam it's fun and quite challenging I've heard.

13:26 - a few days ago I gave this question and I think it really is a NO. for example if you steal a Snickers bar (something small for example) and no one notices is it really stolen? for real - you stole it, the cashier didnt see it, the security didnt see it, the manager didnt see it when it happened and later the missing goods were not found in the books (lets say there were to many 1 cent change that was not collected that period to cover the cost) then did it was even stolling if it's not "missing"?? (I am bored, fight me!)
