I’m curious if this is what I’m going through still - like I get ill fast, it wipes me out, I fall behind with workload every other month as I can’t remain consistently on top of my work and though I have some family health factors that occurred over past 4 months now, I do tell myself it’s warranted but also I get frustrated I can’t remain consistent. Does that make sense

Something that my therapist and I worked on is the idea that “my hobbies will always be there when I’m ready for them” so there’s no pressure if I don’t touch them for a while. Another thing we talked about was if I genuinely wanted to do the hobby, I do it for 15 min and if I want to stop, I can stop. Turns out, getting started was so much pressure and I would talk myself out of everything before I started. Once I pushed through and actually did the hobby anyway, I found it easier to keep it going. I’m still in therapy, but I’ve made a lot of progress over the years getting rid of the idea that everything I do in a day must be productive.

My husband was so burnt out with his job that he was literally picking at his legs/arms, sleeping all the time, and not getting any sort of exercise, not concerned with nutrition. This stuff is very real and can happen to anybody. He kept pushing and didn't realize when to let go of the job and find something easier. Eventually the job let HIM go and we only have my income now which has been stressful especially in this economy. He is having such a hard time finding a job even in his field. He does great on interviews and then radio silence. The combination of not having dual income and him struggling every day to find a job/getting our hopes up is awful. And yet, we have such a good bond that we still have so much fun together, we still get by and know that God has got us. This whole circumstance made me realize how much I value time together over money, and I know we could get through anything. I'm happy to see him recover from his depression and anxiety that the job was causing. His mental and physical health means more to me than killing himself for a job.

I am 23 years old and have only been working at my first full time job for about 1 year, and after a long time filled with stress and anxiety for many different things - I am now working (only) 50% due to anxiety and stress. I’m having a call with my doctor this week to talk about moving up to work 75% and yesterday I had a big anxiety attack, the scariest I’ve ever had - and this video helped me remind me to reflect on where I am in my process and how that has been feeling lately. I came to the conclusion that I need to slow down and not move too fast! And that that is OK! Thank you K! ❤️

Naps have always helped me. Luckily as a kid my mom always considered naps productive and I've always used them as a reset button. Today I dreamt that I finished an application for grad school. I woke up and was able to finish the application within a couple of hours(which was less time than my morning procrastination). I don't exactly know the science behind it, but it's almost like it's getting my mindset ready for a task I need to prioritize.

I’ll add to this - I’ve had some of my best revealing and healing dreams during daytime naps - double points sleeping like a cat in a sunny spot on the sofa (obv SPF besties)

Therapy was key to me, anxiety in the past didn't let me enjoy my hobbies. I felt like I have to do something productive all the time, like house chores, organizing things, anything instead of unwind. I'm glad to say I'm recovered now.

@@Quinn21Lovei hope you'll get the notification but here's what's finally starting to work for me. sorry if some of these aren't accurate for your situation because this is what's been underneath for me, but, i think it's good to keep them in mind anyway! 1. don't run away from your problems but don't beat yourself up if you don't manage to face them. this is the most important thing. don't beat yourself up any more than you already do. you're doing your best, that's the most important!! 2. be mindful about what's blocking you, the issues that make you think you don't have time to have fun. be exact and think about what you need to do to solve them. notice the emotions the situation makes you feel and live through them before you let go. write it down if it's too much to let go on your own. notice how your body feels. if you can't process some emotions at the moment that's fine, just live through it, keep in mind that you can sort it through later. just don't ignore them. 3. take some time to do a few things for yourself everyday! even if you don't have much time, little things, 30 minutes maybe, or sneak them into other stuff - get yourself some snacks or a lemonade, buy that thing you want, pet a cat. you can't just have output and output and output without regular energy input. 4. don't ever compare yourself to other people. think of it as if you're playing on a different difficulty than they are, if you don't manage to live the same way they do, that's just because of the situation you're in. +you don't really know what's going on in their lives. 5. find what productive means for you, because taking care of yourself should absolutely be productive. you need it to function. you're the most productive when you feel alright. 6. do what needs to be done at the moment. sort your big priorities in your life but also the tasks you have at hand. don't force yourself to skip the things you actually need to do at the time. you'll have plenty of time to do the rest later. maybe your big priority in life is drawing but you feel like you should do more productive stuff instead? not as long as it's not your priority. if you have the time, you should spend it to lead the best time you can, and you know exactly what that is, no one else, not anyone who expects more from you.

Nostalgia is what gets me through long days of medically induced idleness. I said "Self, when was the last time you had entire months alone and nothing expected of you but basic chores?" And Self answered "When we were 10???" So now, everyday, I spend doing all the things I loved as a carefree 10 year old and I am never bored and very rarely lonely. Spot on with the books too. Little House, Anne of Green Gables, Nancy Drew ❤ I have a whole box of books from when I was a kid ❤

I've just come back after 7 months of full and partial sick leave for burnout, after seeing that tsunami wave coming towards me for a long time and finally crumbling under the stress. It was a process of going through denial, shame and guilt for not functioning while everyone else handled stress, wanting to hide, opening up a new way of thinking, ovethinking, lots of therapy, lots of tears, accepting, working on yourself and learning to set boundaries. It taught me so many things and even though I wish I never got to that dark place, we can only learn from it. I found your channel while I was home and trying to learn better routines. And I love that you loudly and proudly promote the importance of self care, cozy time and reset time. It takes away the feeling of guilt knowing that others cheer for it. Intentional rest and doing one thing at a time is key

Now I try to fill my cup every day by doing something for my body, mind, soul, and environment every day... even as little as 5 mins per category, really makes a difference! Also, Sunday mornings are my cartoons and cereal time. Sometimes I'll color too. It's important to nurture the child in all of us. Life is hard, make sure you take time to play too. Sending love!

Just wanted to share a book recommendation to you, girl! It is called Tress of the Emerald Sea. It is such a good fantasy book that is written in the same way that the movie The Princess Bride is and has similar vibes to Legends and Lattes. I definitely think you would like it! 🙌🏼
@ikabikaboo

I agree with the suggestion of Tress and the Emerald Sea. It's a very cosy read. Some other options are any of Patricia Wrede's books, The House Witch by Delemhach, and the sci fi Dreamhealers series by MCA Hogarth (starts with Mindtouch). When I get down, I read Tamora Pierce, who is a mix of cosy and epic fantasy. I'd start with Alanna, but the Protector of the Small quartet is my favorite.

I agree with you about indulging in nostalgic memories; it's so nice to reconnect with your younger self before college and adulthood and bills and kids whew! My favorite nostalgic things are 1. music from middle school and early high school (high school musical, cheetah girls, Jonas brothers, Disney movie soundtracks) 2. reading and watching stories that I fell in love with in those years (Jane Eyre movie adaptations, Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier movie adaptations; I'm a lover of mystery romance) and 3. eating things I used to eat often or eating things I wasn't allowed to (my mom NEVER bought us Gogurt, it's in my fridge now). Hope you're better rested now! 🌺

I'm in the process of getting diagnosed with AuDHD (Autism spectrum disorder and Adhd combined) and your videos help me so much to wind down! My brain is constantly having a tug-of-war between the ADHD side who wants to be living fast and furious, doing so much things at once it's making me dizzy, working myself to a burnout and trying so many new things until I crash completely and have an autistic burnout where I have to just be with myself, do the things that nurture my soul and feel slow and cozy. It definitely is a pattern to go back and forth between those two. I've only been following you a few months so I'm not sure if you've ever pursued a diagnosis or anything to do with mental health but it sounds like you could be having a similar experience!

Dear Kennedy, and everyone here, it legit took me two days of watching this entire video multiple times XD in moments I could think about how vital this conversation is. The topic and how Ken handled it couldn't have come at a better time, I'm sorry you're going trough that Ken but very happy to see you working trough it. Videos like this from creators who are our safe watch and and in a way self care watch are so so important, to everyone but especially people who don't have time to even think about therapy, cant afford it, cant for any other reason implement it into their life. As said, stress leads to burnout and burnout leads to more serious things, and then there's many many of us who deal with serious things from the get go and on top get lovely burnout and stress, so watching an hour of candid advice and a visual push to take a sec by your self and sit with what you're feeling and thinking how you can deal with your situation no matter how alone you are is so important, thank you Kennedy. Even when we DO have time and ability for plethora of cozy activities and rest time, it is sometimes almost impossible to feel ok doing them, therefore they don't end up helping. The conversation especially at the end hit me so hard, the level of burnout and confusion and emptiness in my situation lately have been so draining and seemingly never-ending, and the conversation came as therapy as it is! And I'm so so grateful. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and considerate intentions with us all, it helps in ways you probably hope for but don't see individually for everyone and the impact on people is so so so warm and helpful. Take care of your self guys

Cannot tell you how much I love these longer vlogs ❤ Also, yes to childhood hobbies! I recently went to my parents home to help them declutter & found so many of my fave childhood toys (inc tamagotchis!). The happiness I felt in that moment led to me bringing some back home & they are now proudly on display in the office. Thank you for making me feel less weird about it haha

I dealt with burntout by ultimately putting in my two weeks notice and leaving my job. My last day was yesterday. I decided that even if I took a week off and got a raise, the job at the end of the day wasn't for me. I wish everyone the best on their burnout journey. I look forward to watching your video and learning techniques for if/when I ever get burnout again and hopefully don't end up leaving a job because of it instead put into it the tips, routines, and downtime ideas you suggested.

Animal crossing city folk (or let’s go to the city as I knew it) was the first animal crossing game I played and I play it to 100s of hour, never got particularly far in the sense of filling the museum, town upgrades ect cos I was kid which didn’t google games. But I spend so long fishing and balloon popping, to the point that I have the city theme song playing in my ACNH house cos it such a fundamental part of animal crossing for me.

I’m currently managing burn out/realizing I know I need to take time off to recover from years of pushing. It’s been a theme coming up since starting therapy a month ago. Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video Kennedy, I hope you and this cozy community is taking time to take a step back if needed 💗

This was a great video. I went through burnout a year ago at my teaching job. I switched to a new school and focused on healing: I dropped most of my social activities, paused on traveling, working out, and budgeting. I quit social media and put less effort into hair and clothes. I am finally now feeling like I'm coming out of burnout/survival mode, but still very much on the road to recovery. Rest and fun and time at home are so so important!!!

I’m about 5 months into working full time after graduating uni, and I’m probably at stage 2 of burnout. I’m also autistic and adhd, and it gets a lot harder to manage that as of the last few weeks. I’ve been getting so overwhelmed and anxious and overstimulated at work. Halfway through the day I feel like crying or sleeping (I’ve been falling asleep during my lunch breaks) or fighting someone. Doesn’t help that my job right now is not very autism friendly. I work in a retail environment with bright lights, loud music, and constant chatter, all the time. All of those are pretty big triggers for sensory overload for me. On my days off I make content to try and strive for one day having a work from home job. I feel like I never let myself rest. I go into the day with all the intention to rest, and end up working instead. I’ve done this my whole life. I’ve always run on anxiety. Whether it was being scared of failure because of my parents or fear of failure because I literally can’t afford to fail in this economy, I feel driven by anxiety all the time. I hyper organize my life to give myself a sense of control and productivity. I decided to take a sick day tomorrow to try and recuperate. I have a very reasonable and understanding manager, so half the time the problem is me.

This video has come at the most perfect time. I'm suffering from intense burn out where I'm losing interest in everything and my job, which I love, makes me hate every day. I played a game (remake) that I finished in my late teens and it helped me so much. I'm now sad that I finished it and I've been trying to communicate why I feel 'sad'. My partner is the absolute best and he has put aside some 'game date nights' together to help while I work through my areas that I need too.

I loved the Wii growing up, and still do. My dad actually won a Wii at one of those impossible carnival games. I was so excited when he got it. I mostly just played Wii sports with my friends. Eventually, I started playing Kirby games and found a new love for video games. Kirby and the Wii got me into video games. I still have my Wii and still play it from time to time, truly a gem of a console.

oH mY gOODNESS THANK YOU for actually touching on all the stages of burnout and talking about some ways to handle the late stages. i reached the absolute outer limits of burnout, and im still trying to recover. i see so many “recovering from burnout” vlogs that are for the early stages, and no shade to that, those need recovery too, but dang, it’s super hard when you’re in late-stage-burnout and you’ve got years left to recover. it’s a lot to get back to a mindset that feels safe and allows room for relaxation and joy. it’s so meaningful that you included some words on those late stages and how long it takes to recover. thank you 💖

i just had a baby 2 months ago and the effects of postpartum are hitting me immensely when regarding my routine, i think pregnancy/postpartum/new-to-parenthood is like the ultimate burnout where you really can’t get a break, a lot of the advice in this video could also apply especially when trying to implement small amounts of energy back into my routine which is vital no matter how small and menial it may seem, this video definitely helped

This helped me so so much! I watched ehen thr video dropped (sorry Im such a lurker) but one thing I've been struggling with is reading. I read so many book last year but everything I've picked up since January hasn't spoken to me and I only ever get a few pages in but because of this I revisted a series from my childhood, it was 4 books and they only took me an hour each to read but I read them over 2 weekends and it feels like a mental block has been lifted ❤ Fantastic video as always, K!

I cannot thank you enough for this video Kennedy. I am in burnout, but the particular kind that comes with being autistic it’s like burn out but with an autistic brain I guess. This video is just been a reminder to really take care of myself until I can get out and hopefully I can but these activities are so reassuring that it’s not just me going through it and then there’s other people who know what to do, who can give advice on what to do so thank you so much for being a light and sharing what you know about burnout and like all your videos are so amazing and comforting so thank you for all you do. 🤎

When you were talking about the thoughts and how to push pst it is actually something I’m reading about in a book about OCD/anxiety symptoms and that’s the same practice! When you get an obsession or an intrusive thought, they recommend trying to put off acting on it for 15 minutes while refocusing your attention on something else, and your likely hood of doing the compulsion goes down the longer you wait!

WHEW GIRL you ate that uppp. Like you were truly in my head on so many levels. I was not ready. I've definitely been in denial that I'm starting to feel burnt out especially because I just came out of such a severe season of burnout because of my last job. Being stressed just starts to feel like a default when you grew up an overachiever. This really helped me understand why I've been feeling this way and I really appreciate it 💜

oh bestie kennedy, you are always so right on everything you say. i could very much relate to everything but specially to the not being able to balance things. im studying to become a psychologist because i want to dedicate my life to equino therapy (basically therapy for people through horses) and i do also ride horses and help my trainer at the barn on my free time. lately i havent been able to balance both of those things and i find myself not heading to the barn as much as i used to and would like to. ive also realised that im putting way to much of my energy on university because i really want to achieve that goal of equinotherapy and im not really realising that going to the barn is not only something that makes me disconnect of my stressors but ALSO a different way of leqrning and working towards that future goal. im officially going back to riding and being as much as i can at the barn and im so happy about it !!
