My wife talks almost as much as her. She asks me if im paying attention. I tell her when she is constantly talking, what part do i need to listen to? Damn!
That is one anxious customer. The customer was burned before which adds to the anxiousness. Good, polite, competent, professional people like Steve are desperately needed to provide honest and caring service. If there were more like Steve the general population would be less anxious. This applies to all industries.
We have this "ministry" where I live; that takes ex-cons and "trains" them to work in Steve`s trade. That makes ME anxious. Guy has withdrawal symptoms because he needs a tweak while he works on your furnace. What can go wrong there?
to be honest im so surprised how unanxious customers writing big deposits and stuff are. Most people dont even double check im telling the truth about being licensed, bonded and insured.
the way she was just talking and talking was making me mad actually lol, i'm surprised Steve didn't go off on her at some point haha, some people just need to listen more and talk less.
Most of the time it's best not to use technical terms around customers and just fix it and let them be happy. All they hear is "blah blah blah" and nothing sinks in honestly. Just say "I replaced this thing and now it's all good". My God that lady would drive me up the wall with the constant yapping.
It took me 5 years to complete my apprenticeship. No way in hell I can explain to a random person all the refrig theory in a couple hours. I agree… less is more.
You had a full-on helicopter with her. She got you sweating with all the questions and conformations. I don't blame her with the screw job from last installer. Crazy
As someone who helicopters, understand this might be the second or third time someone has come out to "fix" the system. The first time you give the benefit of the doubt but second or third time of paying money you don't have, you make sure the person explains EVERYTHING.
I can tell you all of her friends will know about the miracle work you did and how honest and intelligent you are. Sad she was cheated before. Glad you got this fixed!!!
Well, as a customer and business owner, you can explain everything you're doing to me or you can find yourself a new job! If you think you're too good to explain yourself to someone then you don't belong in the repair industry, PERIOD.
Kudos Steve. I'm exhausted listening to that poor lady. Your personality was a perfect fit for her. I have used a right-angle cordless Milwaukie drill for those service valves. Faster and less of a pain in the ass. finish it off with the service wrench. Just a suggestion brother. Great job!
You can't stop a Goodman! Customers like that a tuff to deal with. They want to understand what's going on, which is understandable, you just don't have time to teach an HVAC class. You handled her well.
It actually didn't look that bad. It sounds like she had a young kid hook up the thermostat and that was really all that's wrong with it other than it being an incomplete install
@rustyshakleford5230 Pressures were off, piston wrong, bucket instead of condensate pump, leaking due to blockage, Tstat never hooked up. Lady probably paid for a completed install.
@@WeatherNut27 yeah and i bet the installer noticed the new piston after releasing the charge so they decided to give it to the customer as a gift instead of pumping it down and pulling a vacuum again. that washin on the supply is atrocious pile of tape. i bet theres a lot wrong, missing grommets and all that.
So the hack I stalled the AC and it ran but they tell her to make sure to install the piston so the system doesn’t get damaged……why didn’t he install it???? 😂😂😂
Good work on fixing this lady’s issue. Normally I wouldn’t disparage another guys work but yeah I’ve never seen a contractor do such a hack job and leave it unfinished and tell the customer to hire someone else put in this piston. That’d be like me sayin hire another plumber to finish the plumbing. I could see her being burned and anxious asking a bunch of questions and hovering around like a hawk. I know some installers would get a bit hot under the collar but you kept it professional and fixed the issue
I gotta tell you you have the patience of a saint with dealing with that woman. I would've lost it with her and her constant barrage of questions....Just leave ME alone and let me do my job!!!
@7:13 Steve is trying to get the "low down" about the bed and gets told that he needs to listen. LOL enteratining....... Attack of the killer earwigs...
Don't you just love the hacks out there? No license, insurance, or brains. It makes me think the person I'm working for is a cheap SOB! But I always fix the problems because like you... that's what I'm good at!!! Keep it up Steve! By the way, NEC article 210.63 requires a service receptacle within 25' of the heating/ cooling equipment. The lady said she called an electrician but that person was no electrician, believe me.
Here in the New England area, basically the same area as Steve, you cannot purchase this equipment, especially the refrigerant if you are not lisenced. I have a universal refrigerant lisence meaning I can purchase any refrigerant made.
I’ve been in this trade almost as long as you and I gotta say I really love watching your videos Steven. I’m also a 1 man shop. And I LOVE your truck!! Might have to get one myself. Any tips on finding one?
Steve just smooth ran the red lights at 2:08. You're a good man to help a lady in distress on a Sunday like that. 0You also have the patience of a Saint to not go nuts on a woman telling you how to do your job.
Got a 3 ton Goodman ac/ furnace at moms Southern California house. It replaced a 32 year old 3.5 ton Lennox at her single story 3 bedroom. the lennox may have had a bad gas valve, the thingy wires go into or something else. Five companies didn’t want to touch it. we have an ecobee and with extra sensors and it works well with the goodman. had to get new system because it was the year they banned the old freon…
way you all talk to each other cracks me up lol . can be the first time you meet someone and bam are you even listening to me like a 20 year married couple 🤣
66 degrees?!?! That thing is never gonna stop, its gonna take in more heat than it’s taking out. I would have just fixed everything just explained everything to her at the end….
That customer was nutty as a fruitcake. I would have said I can't concentrate while your jabbering - you don't want me to make a mistake do ya ?? I don't think she understood a word you said either. I think the earwigs got to her. 😄
I did exact same thing just the other morning. There are 3 lights and one in front of light I was at turned green and I took off on the red one I was at, lol. You get stuff on your mind and you have a brain fart. Thanks for video Steven!
Thermostat Wiring. Here is what goes to What for anyone else trying to diagnose a problem with wiring (Note: Not all thermostats have all of the wires below. 2, 3 4, 5, and 6 wire systems are common depending on the type of heating or cooling systems one has and the functions of each. B - Heating Valves (Heat Pumps) or 24V Common on Some Systems (often the case if B wire is present on non-heat pump systems or heat pump systems with an O wire) C - 24 Volt Common (Provides Power for Electronic Thermostats to run off A/C power or Indicator Lamps) D - Dehumidifier (Also known as DH/DHUM. Numbers after indicate multiple stages) E - Emergency Heat (Heat Pumps) G - Fan (F Wire on some older systems) (Note: G1 through G3, or GL, GM, GH wires indicate a multiple speed fan) H - Humidifier (Numbers after indicate multiple stages) L - Service or Error Indicator Lamp O - Cooling Valve (Heat Pumps) R or RH - Heat Transformer (or single transformer system) RC - Cool Transformer (Often Used on Two Transformer System) S - Outdoor Temperature Sensor (S1-S3 indicates multiple sensor wires) W- Heat (Note: W1, W2, etc indicates Multiple Stage Heating) Y - Cooling (Note: Y1, Y2, etc indicates Multiple Stage Cooling) X - Aux Heat (Heat Pumps)
Hey Steve and Miss Molly! Workin’ again y’all. 👍👍. A damsel in distress mama! Great the way you explained it to her, at least she was trying to learn about her system - can’t fault her for that. She’ll be a loyal customer for sure.
You handled that customer really nice Steve. She was anxious and I can certainly understand why after being ripped off with that hack job from hell! It sure was wasn’t wasting no time extracting that humidity lol lol. 👍👍
Ma’am, if you’ll leave me alone and let me do my work, it’ll save you money, and save me time, but I’ll explain everything to you if you wanna pay for it lol
Stevie, I admire your tremendous amount of patience with a customer who doesn't understand and being fully transparent with her AC unit (Goodman is quality)! "Superheroes don't always wear a cape" 💯👍
Steve, you have the patience of a saint. How can any Contractor say to a customer "you need to have this piston fitted", when they are supposed to have fitted and tested a working system? Unbelievabl!e
Sadly, this kinda crap happens all the time. I just had a car shop put the car on the lift in front of me and admit they didn't find the problem the first time, need to order more parts, but I should take it somewhere else because they don't want to deal with it and had too tough a job to get the parts from the dealer 26 miles away. They also said "oh, btw, we know you already forked over $550 but we changed the parts we said we were going to change already so too bad!" Guess what? CHARGEBACK.
Almost 30 years in the service business, I have adapted a look that appears I am listening, but in reality, I am not hearing a damn word the ramblers are spouting.
That dog running into the scene reminds one of the Seinfield episode when George was sleeping under his desk; all the kids and a dog came into the office to play and disrupt him. Too funny.
