The YMCA Cambodia Project (YMCACambodiaPro...) is a service learning and cultural exchange for Cambodians American, led by khmer speaking Cambodian staff from the YMCA of Greater Long Beach. This is a documentary of the November 2011 trip.
The whole purpose of the trip is to expose Cambodian Americans and anyone interested to Cambodia and be immersed in the Cambodian society as well as give back by working and bonding with disadvantaged youth and young adults doing team building activities, socializing, playing and teaching them technology skills such as digital media arts (movie making, graphic design, social media, website design, etc) so that they can use these skill sets to make a living and become entrepreneurs.
For more information on how you can get involved by either donating or going on our next trip to Cambodia, please contact Ron at (562) 624-5467 or ron.ung@lbymca.org.

I'm traveling to work with the children and families in a small village in Siem Reap in December. Watching this has inspired me and showed me how much I can make an impact while I'm there. The program I'm traveling with has never had a Cambodian volunteer or anyone who could speak the native language so I'm really excited to work with them.

I love Cambodia so much. I was born and raise there through the good and bad time. When I took a trip there seeing those people on the street bring me to tears every time. I really want to help them but since I'm still young, I couldn't do anything much.

It usually takes a lot to make me tear up but this Documentary you guys did touched me in so many ways words couldn't even explain the mixed emotions I'm feeling. You have inspired me to live life to it's fullest and to keep my pride and culture alive. Also keeping in mind that if you think you're having it bad just know there is always someone out there that has it worse then you. I was born in Canada raised in Toronto and it just hurts me when people don't even know where Cambodia is or know anything about the culture.I hope to visit Cambodia one day and give back to the less fortunate. You guys have opened my eyes and showed me that there is still hope for the people in this world. Bless your souls thank you so much for sharing.

Awesome video! My family escaped Cambodia and came to the US in '81. I was only 18 months then and sadly, I haven't gone back since. This video has inspired me and I am thankful for the YMCA for organizing this project. One day soon...

Love that Khmer Americans of YMCA are able to go back home and share your work and experiences, with some of us that are here. Your experience will open up alot of eyes here in the US. I have been back three times and was not able to do the things that you guys were able to achieved in your short period. Very proud of how YMCA has allowed and was able to provide help and educate all the kids and young adults there. Im from San Diego, and I was wondering if there is such a YMCA program.

Very inspiring and motivational, it's amazing to see people reconnect with their roots and have so much impact on people they don't even know. My Favorite part is the water park where the kids look like they are really enjoying themselves and the staff are part of it being kids themselves...

Watching this video, made me appreciate my culture that much more. I'll be leaving for Cambodia on Thursday, and I can't wait to get there. This video made me realize that I was fortunate to be born in America and have all this luxury here, while most people in Cambodia are struggling and don't have the things we take for granted here in America. I enjoyed every minute of this video.

Hello your project is soooo inspiring. I am a Filipino citizen but I got touched deeply with this video specially on the part where the Cambodian Americans were roaming around the Angkor Wat and realizing how Cambodian people needs help and hope. I saw myself crying also. I found this video because I am wanting to know also about their culture because I might leave by next week to volunteer and coach English in Cambodia, this indeed is a lot of help. I pray and hope that this project would extend to my country also, like Filipino Americans will visit and provide supports and hopes to Filipinos. I will be more than willing to help you guys with it if that is possible. God bless you more YMCA. :)

I visited Cambodia three years ago and my biggest regret was not being able to give back as much as I knew I could. Especially, in the film when it showed old women and small children in the street trying to hustle to make some money, and Sunny was crying --brings back some sad memories. Thanks for sharing this documentary. I love watching films about Cambodian Americans visiting the motherland! P.S. all of the guys are very cute!
