Hi Praveen, I am surprised to see that you did not contradict the statement made in the documentary that 'most of the temple walls around the capital depict epic battle against the chance (Vietnamese)'. You and anyone, who has knowledge of Ancient Indian culture would exactly know what these depictions are. To top it up, the tourist guides working in these temples are also as ignorant, as I discovered in my excursions to these sites back in 2015. Do not know, if it was intentional on the part of these tourists guides.

For complete understanding of this wonderful monument, one must know the historic feats of South Indian Kings Rajaraja and his son Rajendra (from Chola Kingdom) who went on defeating the entire south East Asian nations including today's Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia etc. With their army and naval forces. After winning these states, the Chola Kings used to appoint one of their commanders as the king of the defeated land and promoted their religion and culture. It's westerners and so called archeologists with twisting mindset, gave all incorrect and non factual information only deliberately to erase historical facts. There are numerous RU-vid videos available in Tamil that narrates the wars of the Chola Kings!

I would have loved to know what the connection is between India and Angkor Wat. The moment I saw the temples I was instantly reminded of the Hindu temples in India and then they not only said they were Hindu temples, they also showed Sanskrit. The distance between India and Cambodia is such that the Hindu temples and practice of that religion along with the Sanskrit inscriptions are quite impressive to me and I would have loved to have known what the connection is there. (I lived in India for a 6 month span of time and was shocked to see their architecture and even root language in Angkor Wat...or vice versa. It definitely peeked my interest.)

Ankor Wat is similar in design and layout as thousands of temples in India. This mighty complex of Hindu/Buddhist temples was laid out with holy Hindu mountain Meru as the center piece. It is inconceivable that Indian master builders in large numbers were not present during the construction of Ankor Wat. I visited Ankor Wat for 4 days 6 years ago. One cannot build such a vast complex from just books or verbal communication from almost 4600 kilometers away. Many temples have inscriptions in Sanskrit, which is still taught in India. First Hinduism and later Buddhism were spread all over southeast Asia (Myanmar, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia and Philippines) by Indian merchants and sailors from mainly South India around 600 AD. West and western scholars are only interested in promoting Greek, Italian and Roman architecture. India has some of the most amazing examples of stone carving in the world. Kailasa temple in Ellora, India (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kailasa_Temple,_Ellora) is the largest single piece rock cut temple in the world. it is considered one of the most remarkable cave temples in the world because of its sheer size, architecture and sculptural treatment. In most indian temples, one can also observe the brutality of Turko/Mongol islamic invaders who did their best to destroy these monumental symbols of human achievement. Luckily such fate did not befall Ankor Wat and many Hindu temples all over southeast Asia.

Suryavarman was basically a Hindu and he built the structure as a Hindu. This fact need not be obscured by other minor details. Surya+Varma is a combination of two Sanskrit words. But above all,the Hindus have spread their religion and culture through peaceful assimilation among the people of South East Asia as well as Central Asian region along with Buddhists. The trend which everyone must understand is the peaceful syncretic methods adopted by Hindus and Buddhists contrary to any forceful methods. Thus the result produced by such synthesis is the flowering of cultures unique to Cambodia, Thailand,Burma,Laos ,Vietnam ,Indonesia and of course Japan. In fact,Hindu-Buddhist approach gave impetus to and aided local cultures to grow distinctly instead of destroying them . But Ankor Wat remains the one monument of lasting and impressive testimony of the glory of Hindus I'm antiquity. The efforts of the culture-loving French must be lauded . The amount of effort,labour and money they put to restore it is great sans their imperial ambitions ,which is a separate story . Love from India to Cambodia and France.

They have Asian faces because the civilization that made them was Asian, specifically Khmer. Sorry I've seen this video is a bit late, but why is it surprising that inscriptions were made in Sanskrit on the Angkor ? A rudimentary understanding of Asian history will tell you that Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Indonesia Malaysia were strongly impacted by Indian culture. They had extensive trade relations with India, and the elites had marriage ties as well. The population were all Hindu , including the royals. Buddhism traveled to these parts from India, especially because of the patronage it received from Ashoka and subsequent Maurya and other kings. Jaya Varman, Surya Varman, etc are all Indian names. Theres a reason that part of the world is called Indo China. Because they were influenced either by the Chinese or Indians. Finding Sanskrit on Angkor is as basic as finding English on any monument in the USA or Canada.

what i can guess is, the surprising element could be that they all must have thought its not that old temple. But it was more than a temple, from the time it was impossible (according to archaeologist) to be build with such big population and with such structures. Also, the general thinking that it might be so hidden that it must be impossible for a language from such distant land to be there. Its about what they are seeing and what idea we have of past people. We question how a structure was build in those times of no advance technology, we question how and how much time it took for some knowledge to spread, how merchants knew where was which city or how trade started to that city. Seeing all that, the first question arise is how? So they questioning it without acknowledging other regional history to that much account, its actually not surprising. Also, this question lead to another question, is there account of a monk, messenger, merchant from that side of regions of visiting here? If there are accounts of it, it can lead to different understanding. Hindu culture is still a mystery, even if we say we have Veda and all other religious manuscript. The origin, its influence, its reach, more and more things are mystery, still. Everything is mystery, because its past with not so solid evidence. Angkor Wat falling under a abandon, forgotten city, with advance civilization arise many questions. Questing has nothing to do with India or Hindu religion. It all has to do with HOW? WHEN? BY WHO? WHY? WHAT WAS ITS IMPACT? HOW WERE PEOPLE BEFORE? WHERE THERE MORE RELIGION? WERE THEY CONNECTED SOMEHOW? OR THEY WERE PEOPLE WHO GOT INFLUENCED? WERE THE MIGRANTS? WHY? HOW? WHAT FACTOR FORCED IT? WAS LEAVING THE CITY RELATED TO RELIGION THING? OR NATURE? OR RULER ATTACKS? And many more stuffs, accepting anything just because we know just few stuffs will be a foolish act. Its past. Like, a very good thing mentioned here in this video too, to the chinese traveler, no matter how educated he was, everything outside of his country will be barbaric to him because its difference of view point and understanding. And that has to be taken in account doing any finding in history. society, and many more stuffs. So, nah having the doubt here is not bad. Yes, it ignores regional history of its surrounding. Like you can tell just by the caparisoning here. London is used, not any other surrounding civilization. Of course, london maybe big at that time, yet not giving a comparison from surrounding areas, it can be pretty not good. It can give wrong ideas. Like many times there can be many more big stuffs but people don't know by just comparison done by few western cities and completely ignoring surrounding regional things.

To some it's not a sacred spot and I know they pillage and put graffiti up to say they were there. It's one thing to see the temple on tv or pictures, its a totally different experience to see it in person. I've honestly never felt my heart flutter so much when I visited. It amazed me to see what my ancestors built. I've always felt American, but the moment I stepped in that temple I felt this amazing energy! The first time I've ever felt the energy of my roots. I definitely encourage everyone to experience it in real life. ❤️

ANKIT GOEL: What do you mean thai/khmer region women? Siem or Thai is a group of people who came from a part of south china. they are not relevant when the indian came to khmer empire.
@supremekhmer6596
@supremekhmer6596 5 лет назад
Leann. If you are half Chinese it is highly likely you have more Austronesian ( Filipino, Indonesians, Malaysian) blood in you than actual Khmer. blood. Studies suggest that Chinese (Han) especially from Southern China have a great amount of Austronesian blood in them. So your ancestors might migrate to Cambodia but actually never intermix with the Khmer people at all since the Khmer population is quite small. There are more Austronesian people like the Fillipinos, Indonesians, Malaysians, and such than the Austro-Asiatic people such as the Mon, Khmer, Wa, Paulaung, etc.

Aditya Singh I know better than you because I am a real Khmer! mahitha ramesh stop bullshiting! Angkor what was built by Khmer kings and the Khmer ppl. Survarnan is a Khmer King, and he even stated on stones he is a Khmer king. Why is it called the Khmer Empire, not Tamil Empire and why it not in Tamil or India???? Because these temples are Khmer made temples. You know there is other Hinduism civilization that is not Indian! You Indians claim everything that you think sounds similar to your language when Khmer speaks Sanskrit too due to Hinduism religion that was spread through Asia. All other civilization, even china said Khmer Kings in Cambodia, built it. Tamil King Rajendra was friends with the Khmer King, but he was never a king in Cambodia he just visited. Speak with facts, not of fantasy. You have no proof

Fun fact. Henri Mouhot DIDN'T rediscover Angkor Wat. There is plenty of evidence that it was known about for centuries, including by other European visitors to Cambodia. But he is credited for its rediscovery only because of the way he wrote about it and captured the imagination of the west with his writings and drawings.

How facinating and contrasting to be part of one of richest culture at the time and yet to renounce material wealth to attain spirituality. Two things that stood out to me the most and perhaps are the main higlights of this piece of history; the water channels, great contribition to its community, and the great temples to be rediscovered later! #2022 ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
