International laws and ethnocentricism are a crazy combo man (I did collegiate studies on the ethnocentricism part and still love Japan chill people making those comments)
@@SesshyLover777 French police drop the case because they determined that Sagawa was legally insane. Japanese police didn`t buy that and try to prosecute him but the French didn't gave them all the documents so they couldn`t do anything.
Ok so I searched up Nico and read quite some horrendous stuff, this man is just as crazy as isegawa himself. He also killed a person in Paris and ate them. He has an extensive history of digging up corpses and eating them raw. This whole interview he acted just like a normal person. It’s crazy that killers just look and act like normal people and we can’t tell at all yikes…😰
Yep it's all on purpose which makes it more eerie. That's why most recorded behaviour patterns of ppl that do this shit is them trying to mostly act like a role of a normal person to convince the other person to let their guard down
It’s sad how you can nearly guarantee that no matter how many atrocities someone commits they could go somewhere where they aren’t recognized. No connection to the past and no knowledge of the danger. There is much less legal intervention than needed or would be assumed. Hope everyone stays as safe as they can out there
@@MikuPinky Yeah... But even looking at pictures people still would trust the killers over the normal people. Not everyone is so observant that you can see the lack of emotions in their eyes. You only get the red flags depending on your interactions. And how they react to it
@@usonohoshi6165 I know, how many people thought Ted Bundy was the good guy (helping suicidal people and all) while he looked like a psycho. Solely his gaze makes me shiver. I guess things like "oh you can't judge a book by its cover" (which is a good advice) kinda tossed out our 6th sense. I mean, we're animals in the end. For this part, I'm divided; some are best at hiding their APD so I agree, you need a little bit of conversation or observation to spot them; whereas, in the case of Nicolas Claux, just look at the photos and try pretend you don't see anything. The one where he's long hair and wearing a camel jacket is hella scary. Left eye is hollow; right eye is pure evil. Takes only one look to get the chills. Same vibe with the japanese one in the video. Seing this I would never want to talk to them, even without knowing what they did. Because their eyes speak for themselves. I don't know where you are from, but in french we have this quote "Les yeux sont les fenêtres de l'âme" ("The eyes are the windows of the soul") and I think it's beautiful because it's true, you can see a lot of things through them, lots of emotions. And since APD people lack of empathy and tend to be sadists and manipulators, these things are also visible. Coldness and sadism...
I can't believe the entire video is Aki talking to a cannibal, about another cannibal, without realizing she was talking to a cannibal. I have so many questions
@@Mankey619 I think if I remember well that in this case it wasn’t just Japan justice fault but mostly French justice… Pretty sure based on the fact that a serial killer got only a few years of prison in my hometown in France because his psychological analysis said he was a psychopath and had history of childhood SA and even k1lled his r3pist…
Please revisit Nicolas Claux. He himself is not only a cannibal but a killer, and the fact he sells 'authentic' serial killer possessions I think warrants a video on
@@worknotinprogress7172 same it's a bit creepy that he was a cannibal and a serial killer and have notes and stuff from serial killers, I just hope he changed as a person cause If he didn't aki is given this man attention he doesn't deserve
I think the fact that Nico has stated some of his fascination with cannibalism started because of all the news he saw in France as a kid about Sagawa is the most disturbing part of all of this.
And here Aki is, spreading more information like that to more people, saying how "fascinating" it is... Plus interviewing a killer and a cannibal, I wouldn't want to form any connection with such people, for my own sake
@katelynbrown98 One thing is doing it to raise awareness of their deplorable actions condemning it and passing condolences to the families, another thing is doing it for the entertainment of the "fascinated" masses. Also you need to take into account the fact that many killers do it for attention, and to leave a mark, so keeping this form of entertainment reinforces it. You may argue that even without this "entertainment" the killer would be killing, but you can't deny that it may give them the necessary push
Nico apparently he served 12 years in prison and has 6 counts of grave robberies. He also goes by "The Vampire of Paris" i find it very creepy that he's so fascinated by cannibals and felons when clearly he is one too, that shows how more messed up his fascination is because it's not just because of curiosity, its also cause hes exactly like these people.
Good Lord I just wiki-ed Nico and all I can say is thank GOD that Aki didn't have a face-to-face with Nico. I don't know if he's changed or not but what he did in the past, that man should NOT be walking free.
Although he has stopped commiting his crimes, i don't know if he has changed mentally. Sure, now he can hold back, but what if he still has those thoughts? Chilling
No. Makes sense. Dude is not just a killer, but also a cannibal. If he had ANY kind of Empathy for anyone, he wouldn't have done what he did, while also using others like him for exploitation and earn money from them, even now.
The main point of abnormal homicidal humans is that, their minds work very differently than most people. This also means that their minds work very different from other abnormal homicidal humans. Just because one coldblooded killer relishes in their actions, does not mean another will the same way. You could have two serial killers working together to kill somebody in the exact same unusual way they've been doing for years, and there's a chance, probably a decent chance even, that they do not empathize with each other. This is because of their own personal preference. They can be meticulous over even the smallest detail, and if that other person neglects that detail, then this causes incomprehension. Think of it like this. Two friends enjoy eating burgers, in fact, its their favorite food. However, one of them hate having mayo on theirs, while the other loves it like that. The one who doesn't like it decides to not eat it just because of mayo being on there. They can't empathize with why their friend can tolerate having mayo on their burger, even though they enjoy the same food. This picky behavior makes even more sense when you realize that these two friends are little immature kids. An abnormal homicidal person has an immature/childish mind that has been influenced by dangerous tendencies. When you think about it this way; the pickiness, the immaturity, the childishness, all of that having been corrupted, it makes complete sense why an abnormal homicidal human doesn't have empathy for another of their kind - they're so similar to us, but completely different to them.
This guy was such a creep, even to mock the dead by making a manga and books about his experience in killing and eating her. What goes through that type of mind?
That sudden cut, to explain who Nico was before the interview, got me spook ngl, cause the sudden stop was eerie as hell, Amazing video though nonetheless.
Yeah I never heard about him until now it's scary to think he has public art selling events where he is around people 24/7 as well if he just wanted to do horrible things
@@LyraPyxisVT yeah fr that would be bad but I think he changed! I mean if Aki didn’t mention that he was a cannibal I wouldn’t even realize it idk he was behaving normally
@@rinchuu_ same I wouldn't have noticed to, but the video made me unsettled knowing he is a cannibal and was once a criminal and he keeps stuff from criminals
Not shaming anyone, but people in the comments saying it's so wild that Nico turned out to be a cannibal too when he "seemed and acted so normal" is driving me crazy. My guys in what fucking world is selling "serial killer memorabilia" normal. Anyone that sells serial killer belongings and to make it better calls them "collectibles" can't possibly be normal or sane or respectful. It takes an insane lack of empathy to profit out off shit that was involved in someones horrible death. No sane, genuinely empathetic, trustworthy human would be interested in being near a killers belongings, ones that were even directly connected to the crimes, with the interest of gathering them as "collectibles" to sell. The fact that anyone could be introduced to this guy with that image and description of their website and activities, and not get alarms blasting in their brain is fucking concerning as shit to me. I hope to god you all get better at recognizing red flags
also 2 of the items listed as sold were signed by him, which with no further context at least, is a straight up admission. I got fucking whiplash reading the item names and then the video moving on to announce "Nico claux", the name present on some, was the name of the guy that owns the website. Also the website being called "serial pleasures" for fuck´s sake
RIGHT?! Like I swear the second Aki explained he sold "serial killer belongings" I felt a deep pit in my stomach. I knew from the start something was very wrong...
i don't see how it is a red flag though, i could imagine the thrill of hoarding such items of taboo nature that many people would be extremely attentive and curious in.
That's not surprising, every person that doesn't have a "normal" neurological development or out of the norms interests tries to behave like a civilised human being, that's what people with medical conditions, neurodivergences or criminal tendencies always do in order to fit in
I think the statistics may just be a lie. As if nobody can bother to report the crime for any social reason in that country, how would that statistic actually be true?
The way he speaks on having no empathy for serial killers while being one himself… Chilling. I’d also like to add that when he offered to send Aki a copy of that book I felt my stomach sink. Looked up some information on him and I just have to say… The way I would cut all contact immediately 💀
Psychopaths understand other psychopaths. They don't have empathy or sympathy for one another, but they may be impressed with each other's work or have admiration while still being repulsed by one another
I'm pretty sure that's why he is so at ease about it because there are others like him. He sees that they don't have empathy, so he knows his wrong doings are not that bad to him.
@@nunyabiznuss3040 I think she meant she went deep on the actual cannibal and not the person because she said as she found the book that had the full translation she then realized oh hey, there’s a publisher attached to this and then looked him up but yeah she definitely should’ve searched his name a little bit more because if you look up his publishing and then he links to some thing that has like serial killer memorabilia, then more than likely you should probably look him up too
i do worry that she might be in over her head, i mean it no disparaging way when i say something like this is perhaps too much for an amateur production to take on
if u search his name up nicholaus claux or just ''nico cannibal'' u can find everything abt him, and how he was dubbed ''the vampire of paris''@@onyx1550
When the cannibalistic killer gets more attention and freedom than the innocent woman he murdered, is absolutely gut-wrenching. The only thing about the case that brought me some joy is Issei died of pneumonia, won’t miss him.
Justice was not served. Sagawa was essentially living his best life. I'd be disgusted if I was Renee's family seeing him live so carefree, and profit after taking her life.
My husband just peeked over my shoulder to watch the video with me, I just finished telling him the story. He is a tough guy but even he was shook. Aki... I have been a fan of yours for a few years. I know that your mental health took a hit after finding out that his man is also a killer and a cannibal. Please take care. Much love from montreal!
Maybe a 🚩 red flag 🚩 Nico said he wanted to encourage Sagawa’s craziness because he “found it funny.” Right after Sahara told Nico he wanted to be EATEN by him and his gf. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t want to encourage a cannibal killer who is roaming free!?!
It's always so unsettling to see murderers look and act completely normal. Like, I dont blame Aki for not knowing. I wouldn't have known just from this conversation. I can't imagine the mental impact of finding out afterward.
The fact that Nico has everything. Literally everything, from famous killers and cannibals.. turned my stomach upside down.. but when I looked onto his case.. It made it even worse.. Its ironic the way he basically laughs and makes it seem he is just "interested" and the persona he put was a great act.. But who am I to judge maybe he did change.. but I wouldn't be so sure.. Anyways great video.. Tho I'm now concerned about your safety.. I hope he doesn't bother you or wants to meet up.. Stay safe.. And keep up the good work..
And it's the fact when she asked abt if he feels empathy in him he then describes a cannibals perspective, wich he was probably describing from his perspective too.
I hate the fact that Japanese entertainment industry monetary supported Sagawa by putting him in a TV program. I was so shocked to find him in a show with Bakusho-mondai, a well known comedian duo (Now I want to cancel them). A monster like Sagawa should have been socially/ mentally more punished. He definitely should have been isolated from society, instead of getting attention from the media, which I think is totally insane.
That's not a bakushou-mondai TV show. bakushou-mondai is just a performer in a video work produced by Terry Ito. At that time, bakushou-mondai was just a young comedian, so I don't think they were in a position to be selective about their work. by the way, in his later years, Sagawa was no longer featured in the media in Japan and was in considerable financial poverty. I think it was Western media, not Japan, that made Sagawa earn money in his later years.
Wow absolutely terrifying😮 I think cannibalism is where I draw the line of creepiness. It's actually scary to know Aki talked to a cannibal without knowing because I'm sure she wouldn't have interviewed him.
This was very very disturbing vibes. I hope you can focus more on victims. They are the ones who really deserve the spotlight and include helplines. Mental health is real everyone should do therapy and journal cause clearly it was something he was very fixated on including tried to get them to eat him and meet... and there seemed to be a cannibal underground inner circle to other cannibals is Shocking…But excited to see what you do in the future!
yes but she didnt realize this guy was a cannibal until after. also, many victims don't like talking abt this stuff because its very traumatizing for them.
@@appIebugOr they are just straight up dead.. but yeah, I think focusing more on the victims is what I look for in true crime stuff. Their story deserves to be told more than the person that hurt them.
@@appIebug She also could have just not posted the video. Having researched Nico more, he is just as despicable, if not more so, than the Japanese cannibal. This dude clearly loves the attention from the crimes he has committed. He gives RU-vidrs house tours of his "serial killer" house. He publishing cookbooks about cannibalism. He is constantly giving interviews about his crimes and bragging about them. Nico is not only proud of the crimes he committed, but he also wants to be famous for them. Giving him a platform is exactly what he wants. Honestly, I think this video should be privated. Nico should not be given a platform in any way. Of course, it may not be safe for Aki to do so because I don't trust Nico to not retaliate if he felt angry.
It's because humans are at the top of the food chain, cannibalism isn't necessary for us. But for a hamster at the bottom, if her baby is weak she'll eat it to recover some nutrients, benefits her to eat the baby than for a predator to eat it.
I would be suspicious about anyone who collects serial killers’ belongings. Major red flags that something is not right. Nico is a cannibal, and it’s not at all a surprise. Anyone as invested in collecting + selling serial killer memorabilia as Nico is cannot be a sane, typical person. That is not just being “a huge fan of True Crime” or whatever.
This is absolutely crazy, especially with the fact that Issei Sagawa was able to live a life of freedom after murdering and eating Reneé. It's mind-boggling...I have a lot of questions. The fact that Aki didn't know that Nico is a cannibal until AFTER the interview...it gives me chills.
He didn't find it "funny" that he offered for him and his gf to eat him. If he had the opportunity where he could do it without consequences he would have. He is and was fascinated by him bc they are one in the same no matter how he lies to act like he's special and a "different" kind of cannibal and m*rderer. His intent is transparent (to me) in how he fails to try and distance himself and talk sh*t about him like the "but I'm not like that." Its no surprise that he has done the same thing and enjoys being in touch with others like him, feel a connection and normalize his own sadistic behavior in his mind. I see that he is delighted by all of this. He's creep who should be behind bars.
In his interview with Jake, he said that he was considering it but turned it down because his gf was against the idea of it. This was right after he showed the guys a letter (i think) from a guy who had found someone online who had wanted to die this way. They met up & the "victim" willingly ate his own flesh together with the instigator, & after dying from the wound was eaten by the same. The whole vibe was very Jeff Dahmer-esque imo
I’m so conflicted with this video. On one hand knowing nico is an actual convicted cannibal, I don’t like the promotion and given platform of him. Despite that, he seems so well informed into the topic of cannibalism and serial killers it’s hard to look away or not pay attention to him and he made this video very informative. Like some of the personal letters and arts he received is only available because of interviews like these. It’s like a double edged sword.
I thought it was distasteful. He is clearly not ashamed of being a cannibal. He glamorizes this lifestyle. I read an interview with him and he is basically on the brink of doing it again, that is, if he's not doing it already. Absolutely no regret and continues to fantasize about on a daily basis. He is a deeply mentally ill man and both people like him and Sagawa should be locked in mental asylums until they die because they are a threat to anyone around them.
well tbf she did give a disclaimer that she didn't know about what he did before the interview was conducted so i think that should indicate that Aki would probably never give someone like this a platform to speak from if she was already aware, plus there's the fact that the guy was acting like a completely normal person the entire time almost which proves even the most monsterous individuals can hide the darkness of their pasts like it's nothing
@@CeliMewbut she did post the video, even tho she knew already about this past. I don’t know what to think either, but it is interesting, although I already knew that people like them can seem extremely normal sometimes
It was an.... interesting video to say the least, Aki. I commend the grind n the commitment but i do wish there was more discussion from the victim n her family's perspective. I just can't help but feel like her existence being diminished n reduced to some kind of prop to a deranged lunatic is so unnerving n despicable. It's tragic to think that's all she's known for n never even received justice for it.
To be honest, I'd feel highly uncomfortable contacting a victim's family for an interview. I know it's a normal thing to do when doing a documentary or comprehensive analysis, but I don't have the stomach for it. Aki might feel the same way. If you searched, I'm sure you'll find people who talk about the victims in as much detail as they can. I think Coffeehouse Crime did a segment on these killings.
As another stated, their is not much information on her. It’s one of the sad things in true crime especially with historical cases it is hard to get that information. Some of it could be due to the overshadowing of the crime, it could be nothing much of note of corse, but also not everyone would go on recounting the life for their family or friends I great detail. It could be not wanting to drudge up regrets in relationship or just wanting to grieve in a way not thrown into the public eye. Of corse it’s important, but sometimes that’s how it goes.
The fact that aki talked to a cannibal without knowing, but let us know beforehand, made this person instantly scary. thinking about the fact that he basically did similar things that were talked about and shown to aki and us...and that he liked to do those things and most likely wanted to collect those things because he probably gets off on those...and that he was most likely "inspired" to do the things that he ended up doing because of sagawa...thinking about the fact that the mouth we saw talking on camera ate another human being- I actually became sick to my stomach and almost threw up at the end of that video. That person is so damn scary. Humans are scary because they can appear normal and simply have interests like these because we are simply curious af and even want to know about morbid things. I've looked up "how long does a corpse stay in rigor mortis" but because i was genuinely curious and need that info for a manga ive always wanted to make (where the characters die but eventually they reawaken as if they had never died....kinda similar to the manga Ajin (because i have been inspired by it) but with actual real life science and facts stretched to their limits but in the end still being science fiction.) But then hearing about what that one human has done is honestly the scariest shit ever. It's reminding me of that one time where the dog of my sister's friend was so cute and nice to me. And then he chased a cat and killed it on the spot the next day. That dog bit that cat's head off. Literally. Because a friend, of my sister's friend, didn't believe that the dog had to be kept on the leash at all times when walking outside, because he will kill other animals no matter the size otherwise. I was terrified of that dog from that point on. I was just a 12 year old. He couldve done the same to me in a blink of an eye. (but in that case the dog simply had a hunting instinct. Different to the actions of a human that kills other humans.) Imagine talking to someone briefly on one day, and then the next day you see him on the news because he killed a person and ate their face or something. And then thinking about....that victim couldve easily been me....or someone i know or am related to. Or worse you then get to know that a missing family member has been killed by that person you talked to yesterday. And the fact that exactly that has happened and still happens over and over again is so sick. Humans are fascinating but god damn some of them are so damn sick. And need help.
This video made me think that there are two types of people who like horror and murderers: 1. those who feel identified and attracted to the murderers, really, to a pint of admiration 2. Those of us who are simply curious, like stories and the psychology behind those stories Now it makes me wonder how fine that line is between the two personalities. 😮 Edit: Aki!!! The man had a cannibal recipe book, that gives clues, WTF!!
Yeah.. That cookbook was one of the main red flags. Throughout the interview, I observed Aki's behavior(s) and she was definitely uncomfortable. Her body language steadily became closed off as she crossed her arms and leaned against the chair - trying to create distance (even though the interview was done on a video call. I don't blame her, however, as I'd behave similarly). I'll have to rewatch the interview to include timestamps, but if I recall correctly, Aki's discomfort was more visible when Nico was showing her graphic pictures w/out explicit warning. Specifically, the small black-and-white photo that had the cannibal's signature on the back.
oh my god Aki are you okay?? im so glad Joey is in close proximity to you and you seem to have a good support system. the video is amazing but im just concerned how you felt afterwards ;;
Ever since I was a child and got into anime/manga, I constantly asked my mother to take me to Japan and she would joke that there are cannibals who will eat you to get me to stop asking. I only later learned she was referring to this case :o
I had no idea he passed away until just now so I was surprised to see the comments talking about him in the past tense. Even aside from the obvious justice unserved, this is one of the most bizarre stories I’ve ever heard. Nico coming into the picture just increases the bizarrerie (which is coincidentally the French word for it). You could say bizarre over a thousand times about this story and it wouldn’t be enough.
My ex collected art from serial killers, had a few of Sagawa's art pieces and I think a letter? NICO AND I SPOKE VIA VIDEO CHAT AND I NEVER NEW HE WAS A CANNIBAL?! I remember saying to my partner that he creeped me out, that his eyes were so cold. I felt uncomfortable and somewhat scared, I even got up in the middle of the call for a bit because I did not like him at all. My partner thought I was being rude, but I just couldn't shake the horrible feeling I had. I found out while watching this and I'm even MORE creeped out. Spooky side story: I used to have vivid and graphic nightmares when I started sleeping over my partners house, I blessed some of the art and sealed them in blessed frames, it wasn't until I did that and he got rid of a large collection of the art did the nightmares stop. He had a piece from "the Night Stalker" that I hated, and I saw a figure standing in the area near it. I begged him to sell that piece, and he thankfully did. He stopped collecting that stuff early into our relationship, thankfully. Someone in my family was murdered by a serial killer and he saw how it effected me and my family.
@@alia1758 Hes actually a really wonderful person c: and not creepy at all. He just had a strange fascination with serial killers, and quickly learned how unempathetic most documentaries are to victims. We both collect things from the occult and dark magic side of things now and stay away from killers. I understand most people find it creepy...but we are very normal people! Hes still a really great friend of mine.
This whole video is unsettling, especially the interview. I am glad for yhe post editing Aki letting us know that Nico is a cannibal. And it is scary to think about.
I’ve watched an interview with a serial killer before in my psychology class. In that interview he was also calm when talking to the interviewer. It was the interview with Ted Bundy before his execution. It’s very chilling how calm and conversational Nico is in the interview.
For the ppl who don't get it, 0:19 the man on the photo was the Japanese cannibal who shot his German tutor who was a 25-year-old dutch woman named Renée Hartevelt at the back of her head with a rifle and ate her body.
I wish some people did not criticize Aki for not knowing this guy is also a cannibal and serial killer, because I didn't (okay, just looked him up, and realize I do know of him, not by his actual name, but by his press name; see the Murderpedia entry on him). I've been into true crime and serial killers for a long time, ever since I was affected by the ones that were active in our state and general area when I was growing up (Night Stalker, Calveras County killers, and Yosemite Park killer). I'm obviously more familiar with serial killers, even some lesser-known ones, from the US, and it's only with the accessibility of information with the internet that I'm aware of the ones in the world. I do think we should be grateful that she has brought attention about this guy, not to glorify him, but to be aware that this world and people like this exist freely in society, and to watch out for it. What kind of world allows people to profit off of tragic killings of this nature, right? If you hear someone talking about these things in the same way as this guy does, take it as a lesson in paying attention to red flags about people. He is very casual talking about these things, he has a huge collection of things he is rather proud of. I'm into information about serial killers and their motives, but I would be horrified to have anything belonging to them, have any correspondence with them, or any merch associated with them. People, particularly law enforcement, who have had to interview serial killers have to be very professional and stoical, as the intelligent ones will take any little bit of info that is mistakenly divulged. I'm personally more worried for Aki, as a public YT personality who did this interview, more than anything else. And as much as I am a proponent of getting people with mental health issues the help they need, if one's issues are the kind that makes you harm or eliminate the overall health and lives of multiple people for whatever reason, then I have no sympathy.
The problem is not that she interviewed a serial killer without knowing it, but that after realizing who he was still went thorough with the video in the same manner as she had before. Giving him a platform and linking his website is basically promoting what he has done. It would have been interesting to see a video re-framing it around how a convicted cannibal is keeping in contact with others like him and selling their items online for profit, without promoting his shop or obsession with cannibals, but this video is not that.
@@EasterWitch True enough. I had missed the end where she linked to the guy's info, and that is absolutely done post-editing with the new knowledge. I think an additional edit explaining things at the end, as well as the what was done near the beginning, would have worked better, as well as eliminating the promo links. Personally, I did a quick look at the website, and pretty much clicked away almost immediately. The casual way all the merch was displayed really did bother me. It does appear to be much more promotional with all that, and I wonder if an edit and re-upload would be beneficial in this case. Honestly, remembering more of who this guy was is not doing my mind any favors, since I'm about the same age as him. Ugh.
Considering Nico is also a cannibal, you can think how much upset he must have felt for aki asking questions about another cannibal, without ever giving any thought or recognition to him (she didn't know he was one at the time, but he also didn't know that) for his actions. If I was Aki, I would get scared thinking I might have hurt his pride as a cannibal (that is, if nico is as proud as sagawa about his crimes) That being said, the thought of Aki interviewing a guy who's pretty much the same as sagawa without even knowing that really creeps me out. It shows that we have no idea that someone very close to us could also be a cannibal
Listening to that interview with context has given me this strange sense of dread. Like that was a seemingly normal person and I wouldn't have known otherwise. That he ate somebody... Another human being. An it's strangely humbling, most of us think we'll never meet someone like that. Or that somehow we'd know to stay away. But the reality is we don't. Even the way he talked about it seemed like was just a outsider, like us reading and watching, not understanding. But he does understand, he's experienced it, done it. An honestly I'm speechless.
The weirdest part of the interview is him saying that his girlfriend was scared of Sagawa because he’s a cannibal and knows where they life. But she is actually living and dating a cannibal.
“Wow you would never tell this guy is awful.” He sells REAL items from serial killers??? That’s clear idolization and he literally has so much true crime shit and a zodiac killer mini figure ??
I know you mentioned doing this episode took a real toll on you but thank you for doing it for us. I love your true crime episodes and I hope you keep doing them in the future. But do take care of yourself. Lots of love from South Africa ❤ 🇿🇦
Finally you made a video about it! I haven’t watched it yet but being from France, I felt so mad knowing that the Japanese justice didn’t do anything as if a foreigner’s life meant nothing. Same thing happened with the case of the missing french woman in Japan in 2018 (most likely murdered) where the local police gave little to no cooperation. That’s crazy and really disheartening…
agree, ethnicity shouldnt matter when you take on a case, the fact that it was in this story op said makes it really disheartening that they didnt really care cause she was french @@schemesthefox1255
The way he talks about Sagawa in a way that suggests he’s horrified by his actions, yet has such a horrific history himself is. Very scary. Just goes to show that those types of people are truly monsters amongst us.
Nico being what he is & how people frame his behavior as so normal. The thing people need to understand outwardly weird people aren't what you need to fear or avoid. We're actually safer to be around than normal people. Normal is hiding stuff about yourself, being insincere, and conforming to such a degree nobody expects that stuff of you. - Weird people, by and large, aren't the creepy monstrous threats people say we are. We're sincere because we have nothing to hide.
Looked up Nico's crimes while watching, he was known as "The Vampire of Paris". It does seem like there were serious mental health considerations at play according to court psychiatrists, but he still committed some wild criminal acts.
I'm a long-time subscriber from the Netherlands, but I didn't knew about this case as it happened before I was born and for some reason most of the true crime stuff I find on RU-vid covers either interesting foreign cultures like Japan or English speaking countries so I don't know a lot about non-English European cases.
I also come from the Netherlands born and raised but thanks to my Dutch granny she has seen it on the news~ but her memory is vague because shes getting old but the name reminded her and was on tv news. That the info I have now my fellow Dutch people~
Fantastic video Aki! And great interview. I am a big fan of true crime and this one has always been so interesting, knowing the way he got to go free and turn himself into a celebrity of curiosity.
@akidearest Ed Gein influenced much of the horror slasher movies from the 70's/80's and is worth a read since you like true crime. He was not just a cannibal, but would use human parts and skin to make furniture, wind chimes, lamp shades and clothes ect... They have some good documentaries online. Also Andrei Chikatilo was a really messed up serial killer that had a victim count in the low 50s. There was an made for HBO movie called "Citizen X" that is based off of his crimes and capture that is a decent movie, though if you read about the real events they are much worse than the movie shows. I really enjoy your true crime series because you manage to remain objective with the info, but still can show your disdain of these monsters.
btw idk if this has been commented already but this is what the letter by Sagawa said (9:20) "Dear Nicolas, Hello, how are you? My only desire is to die in the beautiful Sweden as soon as possible. Really that's it! Have you recieved my paintings, photos ( i can't decipher the handwriting there, I apologise) I'm sure that if you sell them to the journalists you can make lots of money. Would you please send me a check of 200 USD? So I can comme to Sweden (here is an error in the french bc the way you would say it would be "aller à la Suède") Don't worry, it doesn't bother me at all." Then I can't decifer the rest since its cut off, but basically, what im getting is that he wants money to go to sweden and visit Nico which is uhhh I tried my best to translate but honestly this letter makes very little sense on its own but its definetly not the writing of someone sane. Overall, very odd
Can’t lie, I actually really like this creepy art. Would I hang it or buy it? HELL NO. However, if he had just been an artist I would have probably followed him.
Same, i've always liked surrealist art and ero-guro but it's not usually made by actual psychopaths! If i saw the art without the context i wouldn't think any of it but the story behing it makes me wish i didn't see it But i think some hardcore ero-guro fans would like it with the context
This is honestly so unnerving to watch, but so interesting. I'm sure Aki would have rather not know she was talking to a cannibal or else we wouldn't be able to see this type of content. i feel she would be so scared to even go through with it. How normal he is and how his eyes light up talking about different people who were cannibals. It gave me chills. Also...did his girlfriend know he was a cannibal? And Aki please be safe!
Nico’s store is called “Serial Pleasures”. The only chance he wasn’t himself a killer/cannibal was if he hadn’t worked up the courage yet, as he clearly fetishizes this stuff. Not remotely surprised.
Somehow I feel like Aki doesn't do enough research on the topics she discuss. I love true crime, which is why I still watched it and I like Aki but someone really has to proofcheck her research. It feels kind of disappointing that she had a chance to talk to an actual killer/cannibal and criminal because of the position she's in but can't do a quick background check on the person she's interviewing. This isn't the only time she's made errors while investigating (this is the second time she's made an error about this particular case). I hope she does due diligence next time to give more respect to the victims and people involved. I get it is for entertainment and I was entertained but still a little bit of care goes a long way.
@@mischievous_ang3l But the video made by the RU-vidr she mentioned was a couple of years ago. Plus, Nico is easily searchable via the Internet. It's basic journalistic practice to do a background check on people you're going to interview.
The way you tell these stories makes them so much more interesting. It makes me excited to learn about all the different things in Japan (especially the true crime stuff)
As soon as you showed the picture of this guy, I was like, “Wait a minute… That’s the cannibal of France I saw some RU-vidrs having dinner with!” I watched that video and it was rather creepy. He has an awful lot of oddities in his collection that he’s collected over the years from serial killers and a ton of letters from ones he’s written to, including one of the Manson women! He served them raw mystery meat from a skull served with a spicy mustard from a skull serving dish and asked them weird questions… He was surprisingly nice, welcoming and charming otherwise, showed off his collection with pride… but it was creepy and i wouldn’t have gone there to a strange known cannibal’s house. Nope… The weirdest part is that he seems really nice and friendly, but when you know what he did, you kind of freak out.
15 years ago Gothic-punk me would have thought tht stuff was edgy but these days as an adult with little kids in my care, & having thawed my heart & experienced the magic of life.. all this just gives me a crazy feeling. Humanity is complex; terrible, beautiful and often a little lost. Its a reminder that people still do cling very much to these dimensions of experience even till relatively late in their lives.
It reminds me of a cannibal Japanese manga I wanted to read online. The art was stunning and all but the guy (the one we all thought just liked animal meat) was actually a cannibal. It’s really nauseating how people think cannibalism is okay or cool.
