I'll watch this a thousand times and my heart will swell and my tears will well and spill each time! I've been listening & loving Joni & this song since it was released, and through all the changes of Joni's different stages & voices and so many of the covers but this, THIS! It just overflows my heart! Wowza!!! Brandi always knows just how when to support & fill and when to let Joni shine solo! They are both such gifts! Thanks so much for sharing the WHOLE pre & post, you really captured it! Gratitude abounds! ❣💓🥰
Yep, I cry every time. 😭😭 And I love the moment part way through where you can see Allison Russell and Sarah McLachan (although she is mostly hidden behind Joni's chair) resting their heads on Annie Lennox's shoulders, just listening (and probably crying, as well).
I can't stop crying... Oh my gosh, to have Joni singing this song again - the beauty of Joni Mitchell sitting there, whole and healthy and bringing her music back to us after so long away is overwhelming to me! I have to say that, sadly, it is only due to the attention paid and the reverence of these older artists by Brandi that we are again seeing live performances by icons like Joni Mitchell and Tanya Tucker. But thank goodness that Brandi understands how important the music of these amazing talented ladies is to us, as a society today, and she is working to bring it back to us! Clearly, she knows that the music created by these wonderful talents is something that is valuable, but I am not sure she realizes that without her, these amazing artists' work would not have had a new life! I am just grateful to be able to witness this, even if it is not in person. And I am thankful that this music is so healing - and if folks would be open to it, so revealing that we are all the same - we all just want to love and be loved! 🏳🌈❤
I love Joni Mitchell's songs. I don't love the hagiography that goes on from some fans. To say that Joni Mitchell's songs are "important" to us "as a society today" is just a wild reach. And silly! She is not relevant to 99% of people under the age of 50, in terms of 'healing', or whatever. Can't Joni Mitchell just be an incredible writer, singer and guitarist, without also making her some kind of avatar for global whatever? Fire away, amigas!
Brandi is right this is one of the greatest songs ever written.... Although there are many layers to it, this classic should be one of Canada's national anthem's.... 🇨🇦🍁🥌🇨🇦
I was there- such a beautiful time- when I listen now it takes me to so many nice memories. Thank u Joni- thank u Brandi You have touched so many souls
Crying like a baby over here. Joni Mitchell will forever be the first music I loved and first records I owned.. I am 32. My parents had impeccable music taste. ❤️- man oh man Joni has a way to lull your mind and take you so deep into emotion..😢
Being born in the mid 60's I remember hearing Joni but I was really never into her. But listening to her music lately it's so magical. This performance and song will go down as the best of all times for me.
Wow this was like a religious experience. Brought me to tears. I'm so glad that Joni can finally bask in the love of everyone there after all she's been through. It touching to hear what's left of her voice -- still Joni! Thanks for posting.
Joni! Such grace and talent and perseverance and resilience and courage. I love hearing her singing with such power and passion even if it’s a couple of octaves lower than the originals!🎉❤
This was my favorite part of the whole concert. I cried then and cried again rewatching it. I love when a legend, such as Joni, can feel the genuine love of her audience for a lifetime of work. I loved how Joni's voice could still soar in this beautiful song. Thank you for sharing this well made video.
Thank you for posting this concert. I'm so glad Joni is back singing for everyone. Such a treat. She is an icon and her music is living on for sure! And thank you all the Joni Jam musicians and Brandy Carlyle. 😊
Saw Joni live in the autumn of 1969 at Syracuse University in Crouse College, which was originally built as a chapel. She floated out like an angel, highlighted by the colored beams through the stained glass. The audience was breathless. You could have heard a pin drop. And then The Magic. Brandi, (who lives only a few miles from me) bless you for bringing Joni to the forefront again. I was offered tickets from someone who could not go to this concert at The Gorge. Wish now that I'd done it, in spite of my health problems, my husband's broken elbow, that it was 3 hours away and my dread of crowds, even though I was at the ORIGINAL Woodstock in August of '69! (Well, that was then....). Thank goodness for modern technology so I can get a taste of it and reminisce about the many relationships from my past, (' the last time I saw Richard...") evoked by Joni's lyrics.
Such a pleasure. I'm new to Brandi Carlisle. So precious how she uncovered this still glowing treasure of Joni's music. Not just a singer, but a vocal painter of passionate, sensitive, delicate, powerful narrative. She sucks you in like a whirlpool, runs through you as if you were permeable, transports you as if you were a feather and lands you in a new knowing, all through the'vehicle' of song.
Wow, Joni's voice has improved significantly since the 2022 show in Newport. Goes to show how dedicated she still is to her art with all that practice.
This was a deeply emotional experience to how are you hear the voice 'live' . Would have much preferred to hear only Joni as I found this revered song with Brandi to be a distraction. One of my top songs of all time.
Bless you for posting this concert. The only u2b video ever that echoes and drifts through my mind days after watching. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Joni’s lyrics are exquisite and her melodies are divinely inspired.
@@squirrelbutler2119 It means these "fans" are sad sacks putting down Brandi. Every freaking musician and performer on the planet draws attention to themselves for F's sake. Listen to Brandi's song The Joke. She wrote it about you.
Yes. It's is the smoking for decades more than anything that is biggest reason for her low voice. As a lifelong fan of hers it saddens me to hear the changes.
😂💋🎶🎉🙏❤️ Bless U Joni Mitchell ur 🎶has carried my ❤️since 1973 11yo, in 💔&😄. Hearing Jaffe biography on ur life now, so profoundly grateful to u and uplifted by ur phoenix strength 👸🏼❤🙏
Thank You , totally agree with you. I love Joni listened to her music from a teenager and on. But I never even heard of Brandi nor does Joni need her to sing . She needs her to back off let Joni shine not steal the spotlight.
I really would have liked to hear just to Joni singing this song. Randy does a great job singing it but for this particular version, right here, I would just as soon hear Joni singing it by her self, I think she would do a tremendous job by yourself, and I find the two voices here distracting.
@@bonniebarlow4939 mmmmm, no. If all she was doing was helping with intros she would have backed off the vocals once Joni was singing. She didn't. She also could have just had her vocals run through the monitor so Joni could use it as a guide track if needed, while on the mains she wouldn't be heard at all. She didn't do that, either. In music, we call that "stepping on" the other performer. She got in the way.
Has anyone checked that this Carlisle woman isn't committing some form of elder abuse? Or just abuse of our ears hollering over the top of everything. It's awful. Just saying.
You constantly smear your negativity on these posted performances - you and a few others say the same ignorant things over and over copying each other with your sole purpose being to put down Brandi Carlile. And you can't even spell her name right. Joni was in need of structure in some of the parts in these songs, you can tell when she's a bit off rhythm or forgetting an entrance until Brandi gently helps her out. If you don't like hearing Brandi, don't watch the ones that have her in them. Simple solution. It takes someone especially dark and twisted to continue to denigrate a light and kind soul like Brandi just living her life with family and friends.
