I am genuinely really impressed in the amount of people putting their money where their mouth is and giving Baldur's Gate 3 a shot after it won GOTY. The game deserves the attention it is getting, and more people need to at least try the game before coming to a full conclusion about it. So I applaud you, sir. Keep up the good work
I think the turned based makes the creativity go through the roof because of how much you can strategize. I still love games with normal real time action or real time strategy, but there's a lot of random creative strategy that you might miss when things are happening.
My brothers and I gave this a shot after playing Diablo. It's our first turn based style game and we all agreed that the strategic aspect blows button mashing out the water. I used to never understand why people played turn based games but it is glaringly obvious now. People that like to think and strategize will love the combat
If bg3 wasnt turn based it would lose alot that makes it so good making it into a beat em up would make it so much worse. Every turn you need to think about it instead of R1 R1 R2 O R1 R1
@@ImMeliMel well for me it's a lot different from most games. I'm sick to death of fps games, Story games like tlou gow rdr spiderman are great to experience but after you beat it once or twice there is nothing really to do. In bg3 you can play the game so many different ways get hundreds of hours trying to redo act1 being bad good sneaking, memeing with thrown gnones trying different classes killed main characters cuss they bite you while you were sleeping, It's ridiculous what you can do in the game.i think a lot of games restrict your fun for example i killed a group of ppl on rdr2 the remaining ppl started running and so I started running after one guy thought it was hilarious and before I could get to him the mission failed and really killed my mood. This type of thing is in alot of games like spiderman I always find it weird he can't build a web or why so many bad guys hang out on roof tops and never inside the buildings. Ik it's a limitation on the games but that's why bg3 is so good because it's turn based alot of those problems are gone and the world opens up. Almost anything you can think of you can do in the game, you can get as creative as you want. It still has its limits but it's different and that's what makes it great. For me👍
Even moreso, if it wasn't turn-based it literally wouldn't work. Since it uses 5th edition rules. Which introduced bonus actions, opportunity attacks, and reactions. Imagine trying to manage all those (not just you, but your companions and your enemies) without complete turn-based combat.
Just so you know, on mouse you can left click and hold to have your character continuously walk to where your cursor is. You it's just like holding a joystick stick down.
I think the biggest thing is to go into games with an open mind. I hear the biggest complaint is the turn based. Personally I’ve never thought of it as a bad thing or a good thing. it’s just the way table top games are played. I’m glad to see you had a positive reaction to the game, and didn’t just dismiss it because it’s a slower paced game. I’ve put in almost 500 hours over the course of early access until now. The more time you put in the more you will discover and learn, which to me makes the game more engaging. Anyways good video my man 👍
Mouse and keyboard is by far the superior way to enjoy the game, for sure. But I gotta give credit to Larian for making the controller work as well as it does. Not only does the whole UI change when you switch to a controller, the subtitles even get larger because the game assumes you're sitting back on a couch. Which was perfect, because the only time I used a controller was when I got sick of leaning over my computer desk and wanted to recline for a while. :P
Just finished my playthrough. I'm a very casual gamer so when I do find the time, I NEED the game to be amazing. BG3 is a great game but there were some moments that quite literally for me made the game go from 11/10 to an 8 and then tragedy struck again that made it, again this is personally for me, 7/10. It definitely deserves GOTY though. One massive complaint that I know I'm not alone in expessing is the lack of options for someone in particular. I hadn't raged-mad like that since Mass Effect. Another complaint (and it sounds silly but whatev!)--I wanted more cut scenes with my doggo. Not sure why every time my Tav went in to pet him, she was scowling and would just stand up to do some wonder woman pose when she was done. This game is heavy! Some light moments sitting by the campfire with my dog once in a while would have been nice
You may like Dragon Age Origins more than BG3. While it is in a similar vein of over head views it is also a little bit more live time. You can pause the game and make decisions but you can set your characters up to interact without your input and just focus on your own character. It also has an interesting narrative and enjoyable party members. That was peak of Bioware to me, same guys who made Star Wars MMO. Jade Empire is also another game they did which is more action.
Personally i rly enjoy the out of combat exploration since I'm used to the top down view from mobas and rts games. The combat is cool and more flexible than a ton of other turn based games and can have interesting interactions depending on your build and environment. Also try the harder difficulties or play dark urge (totally different interactions from normal custom)
@@ImMeliMel Oh, just that. I'm probably going to do that in my current run. Honour mode is no joke. Crazy your in act 3 in around 40 hours. There is so much content you haven't seen.
Glad you tried it, hope you’re enjoying and … still playing?! So yeah, this is a different style of gameplay. It’s not fast action, it’s not a shooter or racing, we know this. It’s a true RPG, with turn based combat. Of course it won’t appeal to everyone, it’s like comparing Monopoly to Chess! And it’s ok. It won GOTY because of all the hard work and many years the studio worked on it, put it out on early access to get feedback and put out an incredible game for the *Style* of game it is. No one has done better. Larian even topped themselves some say, from their Divinity line of games. Peace!!
