A week in my life - antique shopping and home update
This week I wanted to change the pace on this channel a bit and summarize my adventures for the week in a more casual way, sharing all the little things I got up to while traveling and enjoying time at home away from work. We traveled to the coast, went thrift and antique shopping, and I found some awesome vintage chairs and a vase! All for less than $55, which I think was a good deal (since I had given myself a little budget for the trip)! Usually I’m working full time and don’t get away, so this was a special and fun week I thought I’d share! And if you’d like to see a ‘work week’ in my life, let me know and I will make one!

Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE your typical style of videos, but i also VERY much enjoyed this more casual version of seeing you! It sounds a bit silly but it made you feel more like a real person if that makes sense. Normally I see you as this enchanting forest fairy who is flowing and moving so effortlessly through life but this video allowed me to see a more ordinary version of you and I am a sucker for the ordinary in everyday things and in every person. Your videos overall bring me such joy so thank you for being you every step of the way❤️

The blue table is beautiful! Chairs: earth tones. Table: the sky. If you want it to appear “aged” like the chais, there are colored waxes that would look amazing on your table. Check for ones that are food safe.

Your round bird vase is actually a vintage 1940s or 50s ginger jar. It came with a rounded lid. It is in fact a Chinese piece. I must say those chairs are perfect for your darling home. It suits your style and charm that you have surrounded yourself with. I enjoyed your trip to the vintage shop and hope to see more like this. Wonderful video!

Satsuma is actually Japanese.
@85wutaiflea
@85wutaiflea 6 месяцев назад
This is incorrect; Satsuma-ware is a Japanese ceramic, several hundred years old. There was a production boom pre-WWII which was poorly received at the time, but it's become more collectible since. It isn't Chinese.

I think the table turned out beautifully! I'd like to tell you about something I realized a while ago: The joy of not knowing..! I was walking at a beach with a very beloved friend of mine, as we saw some stones in the sand, with inscriptions on them. We started wondering what that was all about. But instead of googling it we just fantacised and made up stories, deciding that we didn't need to know! I was thinking about this as you asked if anyone knew about your chairs or your jar. You can just decide their story, right? I bet dear beloved Anne would have done that too. Don't you think so? Much love from Denmark.

The chairs are a great find and a good bargain. The table needs to be the same depth of tone as the chairs...not the same colour, but the same tone. The first paint was to pastel and the second also could have been darker. Not sure that distressing the table with sandpaper did anything positive. It made it look battered. The chairs are not distressed so remember that.

Satsuma-yaki, also known as Satsuma ware, is a traditional style of Japanese pottery that originates from the Kagoshima Prefecture, particularly in the area around Satsuma. This type of ceramics is renowned for its intricate designs, hand-painted motifs, and distinctive crackled glazes. Satsuma-yaki pieces often feature richly colored enamels and gold accents, showcasing the craftsmanship and artistic flair of Japanese potters. Originally produced in the 17th century, Satsuma-yaki has a long history and is prized for its use in tea ceremonies, ornamental objects, and elegant tableware.

My best friend has now moved into the house - we have been settling in, ironing out kinks, figuring out routines. I felt nervous moving in with my best friend - not all friends are made to be housemates, and this is not a friendship I want to lose. However, I think our mutual respect for wanting ourselves and the other person to live in a nice, clean and safe environment has made things go very smoothly 💙 It hasn't been long at all, but I hope that this holds true for the years to come. In my opinion, you didn't ruin the table. Adding the layer of darker paint and sandpapering it made it match the chairs better. I would definitely do the same to the top of the table though. The entire table should have that look. You are right about the chairs having an earthier tone to them but they are still primary colors so matching it with a blue table would work for a kid core kind of look which fits in well with the cottage fairy theme you are going with. The worn-down distressed look of the paint makes the primary colors look more adult and cottage but also whimsical and fun. Reminds me of a classic Winnie the Pooh storybook kind of feel. Also, I hope you do more thrift store and second-hand finds in future videos. Have a wonderful day.

About your little satsuma pottery,If its hand transferred you will see end and beginning of the sticker! Which means it's not handpainted. Also genuine Satsuma ware is native to Japan not China specifically from Kyūshū. From what ive learned is that a genuine Satsuma pottery doesn't have any english words on it. Also those chairs are so cute they literally look like something you'd make as an artist! What a lovely buy!

Satsuma is japanese porcelain (china). Your find has the stamp of the craftsman who decorated it. I can recommend to search the history behind Satsuma china. You can look up the waious stamps and their meaning. Some of the masters are highly collectable❤

As you were painting the table, I thought, “I hope she distresses it” and you did!! I think it turned out perfect, and it made the flowers on the chairs pop!

You can't ruin painted furniture, you just paint it again. I tend to use a little umber paint or stain to take the crispness of newly painted furniture, just a tad. Very cute table and chairs, love it.

After I repaint an upcycled item - I use a wood stain on it. I quickly wipe it off - so the wood stain is only in the cracks and such. That really cements the weathered look.

Your vase looks like cloisonné. A very nice find. I watched people in China make these by hand when I was there in 1996. In one room, a girl was putting the gold pieces on with a little tiny pair of pliers. In another room, a girl was painting in between metal pieces. In one room was a man with a hot kiln firing it. It was an amazing experience I will never forget. I'm glad you found it!

The Satsuma jar is so beautiful!! If it says "made in china" or has any words in English on it, then unfortunately its a copy. If it just has the Satsuma stamp and name, then it may be an antique! The designs are made using decals; they're kind of like stickers that are fired over the glaze.

I’ve never commented on a RU-vid video, and I’m nervous to start now. Your table looks beautiful, and those shades accentuate the blue flower in the red chair. Your watercolor paintings are so wonderful: have you considered hand painting some little leaves and berries around the edge of the table? Perhaps tie in that beautiful shade of green from your walls?

Yes you need antiquing wax to get the duller finish like your chairs are. And you can leave on or take off as much as you like with a rag. Enjoy!

I love the chairs with the table. I love the color you chose for the table…I’ve painted several pieces the same color. Be sure to seal to protect the finish. I learned the hard way! Creamy wax with an antique tint would give you the look you are after. I look forward to seeing this all set up in the cottage. Perfect🥰

Bridging is very important the blue distressed blends with the blue flower and the chairs blend , it works You could add some red highlights to the spindles of the tables leg to blend bridge with the other chairs

The vase looks like it is Cloisonne - where enamels are used to fill in the gold wired outlines. It's a very very popular Chinese style of vase work. Yours looks quite beautiful. I LOVE the ladder chairs. Those are clearly hand carved and hand painted flowers. What beautiful finds!!!

Thrifting is wonderful . My rule is that I will only purchase an item if I would have purchased it full price . It keeps my space from being cluttered . I have a collection of handmade stoneware with plants and flowers imprinted on them that make me giddy with delight when I use and look at them . 🌻 About that table ... its lovey as is but my eye would have had me do a DARK black/ green over it and then sand about a third off . Ive noticed that with a group of objects my eye always focuses on whatever is in the lightest shade . I suspect the chairs would come forward more if the table was darker . I know that your pallet is usually quite soft though which is also very lovely .

I love how excited you were to find those lovely chairs you were right to “age” your table and as in other comments some antiquing wax will really finish it off I think satsuma wear comes from Japan and a ginger jar without a lid makes a lovely vase 😊

Loved your reaction to those magical chairs! Yes they appear handmade and very lovely. I think if you add some brown wax and really buffed it in and left dark in crevices (like many mentioned), you would be happier with the table 😊 the color is lovely but needs that “rustic” feel that you wanted. Take care ❤

Love your chairs find. The table could be glazed in sections the same colors as your chairs. The wood carved portion underneath the table is similar to the design on the chairs so it compliments the chairs perfectly. Some stain glazing as well maybe. Very fun project.

Those chairs are awesome-the price was great! My beautiful mom and I use to love to go to garage sales, estate sales, etc. - she passed away at 99 years old in 2021, and still loved antiquing! We have missed her so much it hurts. May God bless your mom and you with a long life and fun shopping!❤️🙏🏻😃

WONDERFUL finds!! The chairs are to die for!! The Japanese vase is not an antique, but it is gorgeous! As for the table - I think all you need to do is wipe on (with cheesecloth) an ‘antique glaze’ your chairs look as that was done to them. You should be able to find one easily online - probably Amazon has many choices. Beautiful finds! 👏👏👏🥰👍‼️
