That's right! These cars were used to start those races where the horses pull little carts called 'sulky's' with a driver on it. The horses should only trot, not gallop; galloping meant being disqualified. All horses had to line up sideways behind the car gates. The car started moving and at a certain speed accelerated away folding in the gates and leaving the oval track to the midfield way ahead of the horses. Also I mean to remember that the lights on top of the gate were there to indicate to the sulky drivers the start moment or a false start. That's as far as my knowledge goes on this subject. 😀
Nice video Joe. I saw a 1926 AC Mack coal truck parked near that Autocar U70 cement mixer. The coal truck said Dunn on it. Dunn was from Chicgo est. In 1888 , they ran a fleet I Of Chain drive AC Mack's hauling coal through out Chicago until 1970. That's right 1926 Mack's that worked until 1970.
If you've ever been in a Lake Affect, Snow Storm, you know why those lights are up so high. lol! So is any of their rust for sale? Saw a few Corvair Vans that didn't look rusted thru.
Here in Byron NY ! Where i grew up down the road from where i grew up . Alivn Shaw has a collection of classic Antique Trucks . I would say about 30 too 40 .
O-H-I-O Porters🇺🇸 I believe that was a 53 or 54 Cadillac. Way cool car. Talking about a truck boneyard full of history! WOW! I think that Roadway truck was either a Diamond T or International. I love going to truck junkyards! I would go with my dad when I was a boy & I loved it then! Cool stuff!🥰🤩✌️
Coleman disappeared during the depression, i think. Fire truck is an E model. I saw 2 AC Bulldog. The Frozen Juices is a Divco. Brockway disappeared into Mack.
Only-Only------You sure stumbled in to a treasure of old iron.........never before viewed on U-tube videos . The truck with headlights mounted on top of the cab,,,, is a snow plow application that was fairly common in years past The Cadillac with the folding racks was for a pace car at horse racing tracks, so I'll guess you're in the proximity of Batavia Downs, not Vernon Downs in the Utica area . You scored # 1 for uncovering these for us to enjoy ! Considering there's pro's out there pumping U-tube videos , making money with boring content, you found "Pandora's Box " . Thank you Only, but you should show us your fleet soon .
An absolutely beautiful collection of trucks. I spy the handful of Diamond Ts I absolutely love them trucks. Thanks for bringing us on this adventure 👍✌️🇺🇲
The B model cab with a door missing looks like an R model international.the B 81 had a wide radiator which means it had a V8 diesel, you found a gold mine, the cadilac looked like a 56. Great find Joe 👍👍👍👌👌👌
I'm originally from that area but haven't visited the trucks in a few years. Looks like they've added to the collection! I remember there being a nice ice cream stand next door too. Selden was a Rochester company. George Selden actually patented the automobile. Early manufacturers had to pay him a royalty. Mr Ford took issue with this, a lawsuit ensued and no more Selden royalties! Got a kick out of the Genesee beer trailer, also from Rochester.
The caddy was definitely used for horse racing, but the type where they pull the little buggies, like a pace car as they don't start from gates, but a moving start...
BX mack 1930s, Diane you know wants that b815, b60 is gas job,E series mack fire engine, lj mack,I'm trying to help you out with the id.,L model mack truck, 😊love your show brotha
Just recently came across your vidoes and love them. Ive got an 88 international s1600, 7.3idi 5spd 2spd axle with 5:85 gears. Would you recommend starting in low range empty or high range? In both ranges i start out in 2nd, but low range is just super slow, but easier on the clutch.
I'm glad you found us! I would determine that by how it feels when you let the clutch out on that high side of the rear. If it doesn't seem like a real struggle i would say it would be alright. Might just have to revert to low if you were on an incline or something to add more load against it
I am partial to Diamond T's. Cherry grower had one I always saw at the factory as a kid. It was like brand new, having been used only for a few weeks each summer.
Great job joe love it good find watch a couple of old black and white mob movies with horse 🐎 racing you will see the caddy starting gate cars thank you ken
