I remember my Grandfather in the UK growing up putting the Drippings on toast the next day after the Sunday roast, this was in the 50s he lived till 97.

We have children not so they can appreciate us and our parenting ability. We have children to procreate, and to to appreciate the wonder of nurturing and rearing these fascinating human beings. In the end, we will learn to appreciate THEM.

Mary, I think this video is just the sweetest thing. When we met at the Modern Homesteading Conference the thing I really noticed about your son is just how proud he is of you. When he looks at you, you can just see how proud he is of his mom, and you two are just the sweetest people. You both have such happy souls that shine so brightly on the lives of others.

I teared up when Ben said he loved you Mary, the three of you have such a wonderful family relationship! Ben has your smile 😁😁. Could you adopt me please 😊 I'm not much younger than you but still? Your family is the kind of family I dreamed of being part of. When I was a kid no one knew much about learning issues...math was a major Achilles heal.... shaming and punishment was how it was addressed by parents and teachers alike. Positivity was scarce in that environment, and God ✝was sorely needed in it...

I wasn't good at math, either. My elementary school teachers treated me like there was something wrong with me. It made sense when they explained it, but I couldn't retain it. My strong points were always art, poetry and creative writing. My mom, a 5th grade teacher herself, was always disappointed in my math grades. Finally, they had different math classes for different learning levels in middle school, but I still struggled. I couldn't retain dates in history class, either. Evidently we were not alone and teachers should've been more understanding back then.

@@loisruthstrom8143 Sounds so similar! and you must have had a double whammy due to mom being a teacher. I was the only kid forced to stay after school every day in 5th grade for 'extra help in math', that teacher was clueless. I too excel in art, reading, creative writing, although a terrible speller & still am, so thankful for 'spellcheck'. I also did very well in science, up until 9th grade when they began including math along with chemistry my A's & B's & dropped to D's, F's. It was traumatizing. I'm glad there is far more awareness and help for kids nowadays!

❤ I love videos with your sweet Ben and husband. Oh, Mary, it is incredibly generous of you to share your curriculum for free! You are awesome! I have been blessed with a bonus child in my 50's. She has many learning challenges being autisic. We homeschool too. I've shared with you some of her digestive challenges. Now she and I can learn together how to prepare foods that will help her tummy. She loves to help cook and you have greatly helped me in transitioning to foods that help us all and now how to teach her. We started with the super cultured dairy and switched the probiotic out for one that is better suited for her. She eats a big spoonful every morning with some raw honey and loves it. She'll ask for it if I forget. She no longer writhes in pain from food. She also loves beans and now I know how to prepare them so she can eat without pain. Thank you for being such a blessing to our family and sharing your knowledge with us. I hope you all have a blessed Christmas and New Year! ❤

I love it when you have Ben on! He is a lovely young man. I have a 30yo son and he also spent a lot of time with Momma (me) in the kitchen . We made a lot of great memories! Once, when I first "went frugal", I was trying a recipe for homemade toothpaste. We were chatting in the kitchen as I mixed ingredients. I paused to taste it and I looked my son and said, "This is what rock bottom tastes like. " We both had a laugh. I've since found nicer-tasting recipes for homemade toothpaste. Kitchen memories are priceless!

My husband is 67 years old and dyslexic. After all these years, he still writes Iglesia which is Church in Spanish with a C Iglecia. God bless you family and Merry Christmas.

I recommend researching about Irlen Syndrome (Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome). You can learn about the common symptoms on their web page and you'll know whether that is your husband's condition through the diagnostic process by an Irlen practitioner. I finally did that at the age of 70, and as a result can read smoothly and see more three dimensionally than ever before in my life. I didn't know what I was missing. I hope this works for your husband, because it is a quick, simple and non-invasive solution.

What was fun for us with homeschooling our 4 boys was the community. We moved to North Texas when our oldest was 17 years old and he was involved in NCFCA . He had already known kids here and clubs that helped make our transition so much better. This was 11 years ago. I'm retired now.🎉❤

As a former homeschooling Mom, I particularly noticed you didn't refer to homeschool vs. "real school" ;) Like you, I also have an amazingly close relationship with my children. I have two sons in college and my daughter is a Senior in a private, Catholic highschool this year. My boys regularly call me with updates on everything and my daughter recounts her entire school day for me every day. At Parent Teacher conferences, her teachers are often stunned at how much I already know about every detail of each class. Homeschooling was such an incredible gift to our entire family. ❤

I am a teacher and mother of five-4 sons and one daughter. I’m also a traditional cook. I made my first cookies at age 6. All my children worked with me in the kitchen, and each one still cooks today. One of my sons and my daughter are dyslexic, so I was trained by the Michigan Dyslexia Institute in Lansing, Michigan. I tutored My own two children and many others. Today, my son and daughter own their own companies and are doing well. Congratulations, Benjamin on your continued journey.

I’ve always had a bit of dyscalculia throughout my education which I had to struggle with on my own as no one in my family would ever understand if I told them. Thanks for sharing Mary. Your such an inspiration to me. During the pandemic my husband at 41 had a 7 hour surgery for diverticulitis and it was very rare at his age. Your channel helped me a lot with having more nutritious foods to cook at home, which has been helping our family even till today. Your kindness and love towards your viewers is very lovely. My husband and I did 22 years of marriage this past summer, but we got married at 22. Love you guys.

I taught my three grown sons about nutritious food as they were growing up. They all learned how to cook. The older two live on their own and cook their own meals. They do a very good job and like to share what they are cooking. My middle son texted me over the weekend and send me a picture of the hamburger buns he had made from scratch.

What a beautiful, heartwarming video. I homeschooled my son and daughter (now 33 & 37) all the way K-12... And it was the best 15 years of my life 🥰. And much like you, I was passionate about teaching traditional skills and healthy foods. We even bought a small boat farm and we all learned together. Your Been has grown into a fine young.man. Several of my sons have skimmed through your cookbook since it has been living on our counter and they found the story of the liver nuggets and fermented ketchup hilarious. It is so nice to see Ben again. He is sweet and polite. Daniel is more polite as a teenager. He has selective mutism (he can talk but will not speak in public) and still has trouble with fine motor skills. He excels at gross motor skills. He always has 100% in PE and Wellness. When I was a teenager I gravitated to a group of four other girls and two boys. We were smart and had a creative side interest. Some of us were writers, some of us were artists, and some of us were musicians. One of my friends is a published author. She has published three books in a series and short stories in some anthologies. One of the musicians published an album and regularly plays events around town. Another musician plays in churches. I still have a porcelain unicorn that one of them hand-painted. One was our Salutatorian. Two people from my class were Valedictorian. We mostly hung out in the school library.

Thank you so much Mary for your compassion to teach traditional cooking skills. I always try to let my kids, now my grandchildren help me cook. Going over to your site to download your curriculum. My oldest granddaughter has oculocutaneous albinism of the eye, and is considered legally blind. Getting her in the kitchen as well as my other granddaughter and teaching them life skills is so important to me.

What a lovely video Mary and Ben! I'm a 34 year old guy who stumbled upon your videos years ago and I've been an avid viewer ever since. Your videos with Ben always bring back wonderful memories of my childhood. My parents weren't quite as traditional as you Mary, but I spent many hours with Mom in the kitchen and just as many hours with Dad out in the garden and I think that's why I'm still so close with my parents as an adult. Both Ben and I are very blessed to have such wonderful relationships with our parents!

This is so marvelous Mary and Ben. Mother’s and sons💖 I adopted my son as an infant he is 37 now we are have always been very close and check in with each other almost daily. He is my heart, my beautiful gift from God he is the most wonderful person I know. Love him so. Thanks for sharing so others can see the beauty of relationships with our children ❤

I know of a LOT of adults who need to go through your lesson plans, even though I have not seen them myself yet. Having been a science teacher, I definitely want to see what more I need to learn! I've been learning so much from you over the last couple of years that I'm starting to make my dog nutrient-rich foods! He developed liver problems because of too much fat in the dry food. I changed brands, and he seems to be allergic to the new food. I changed flavors, and that made it worse. So now I'm cooking up 10 pound bags of chicken, deboning it, mixing in mixed vegetables, pumpkin, cooked rice, bone broth and other ingredients as I have them. He does not get vegetable oils as most recipes call for, l give him a little bit of the roasted chicken skin for the fat. His skin is improving, and he REALLY likes the food. So you are helping me and my working dog! Thank you Sweet Lady!

Oh, Sweet Mary and Ben! I will never forgive myself for not homeschooling my son. We lived in Washington, D.C. and while I was at his school constantly when I brought up homeschooling it was like I said Santa wasn't real (but in much harsher terms). He will graduate from college next week with 2 majors (Econ, History)and 3 minors including Honors, accounting, and classical studies,. He enjoyed college and his Asperger's actually made him an excellent college student., but it was a long hard road in those early years. So please anyone thinking of homeschooling know it IS an option- even on the East Coast now especially with resources like Mary's available!.

I’ll be the first one to admit that I still have those fingers in the kitchen, just that they have grown bigger as I’m almost 36 now 😉 Sometimes I make a real mess when I try something new, but that’s ok, since I’m learning what not to do next time. Thank you so much for this Mary. I am thrilled to have discovered you and your videos a couple of years ago. I have only realised how awful the modern western diet is for our health in recent years. I moved to Portugal earlier this year to build a healthier life, and to grow as much of our own food as we can, so your skills and tutorials are a godsend. If I have any grandchildren in the future they will also be homeschooled so your curriculum is perfect. As a retired teacher, oh how I wish this was used in mainstream schools! First of congratulations on your upcoming 26th anniversary. That's awesome. My husband and I just celebrated ours back in October. When I clicked on your video I actually remembered I forgot to fee's my sourdough starter and had to race to the kitchen to do that. I think my duaghter who is dyslexic listened more of the video than I did. I got busy making pumpkin bread and she got bust listening to Ben. It's always encouraging to hear from Ben and his experience with homeschooling and his dyslexia. We tried uncshooling last year with my duaghter and she has taken the reins of her education and r7n with it. She focuses mostly on fashion history, but somehow she always manages to find her way back into the kitchen. For the last three years she has used mostly your recipes to make things like pumpkin pie from scratch following your videos on steaming the pumpkin to making the crust and adding the comments and making beautiful pies. I plan to get my boys in the kitchen and cooking with us too. Now thanks to your curriculum and your book I can do that.
