I think ‘Scrooge’, 1951 starring Alistair Sims based on ‘A Christmas Carol’ is unsurpassed in passion, acting performance, humor, and originality. I’ve watched all versions . None can compare!

Will always love this story and movie I watch. God Bless Charles Dickens. Hope he knows how much people around the world love his stories. RIP Sir Charles. Plus I hope they show this on BBC America instead of old repeats of American tv shows.

When you see his first horse ride from the grave, imagine yourself being treated to such a glamorous ride and you will see that he is not meant to be as horrifying as he is tormented and abjectly lost.

A well made adaption by the BBC; beautifully dark and symbolic, traditionally sentimental and heartwarming, yet still with a new, more modern sensibility. To those people complaining of the implausibilty of black people in London, remember, by the mid nineteenth century it was the city of empire, so people of all races would have been present. But perhaps most importantly, 'A Christmas Carol' is not a historical document. It is a work of make believe, of fiction; of artistry and imagination. As with one of its themes, not so much the world as it is, as it might or could be.

Of all of the years and versions of "A Christmas Carol" THIS is the one most impactful and meaningful, relative to our current times of "experiments" and discourse against women and children. It truly reflects the dark mood of the times (2023 post Trump) and forbodden warning of lessons to come. The only question I had, was in the last 1/3 second of the movie, when Mrs. Kratchit gives her premonition warning; was she warning the world, or, ... ... ... me? 😲 😞!

Yeah Christmas Carol is dark but to quote Nostalgia Critic “there’s supposed to be a balance” it’s meant to have those beautiful moments of optimism and joy to balance out the darkness of Scrooge’s life and the terrible future with moments that show the true beauty of mankind and Christmas spirit

It might help convey some of the sense of what Dickens was trying to portray and bring the story to life a bit. Books in class can be very dull, especially if you go through page by page and never enjoy the story. However, they may have played with the story a bit, so don't use it as a substitute for the novel.

I don’t like the design of ghost Christmas yet to come.he’s supposed to be mysterious but the only thing mysterious about him in this in how his lips are sewn together. I feel they should’ve kept the no face and long robe design but make the robe look damaged and threadbare

I absolutely loved this, whoever is surprised at its darkness must be watching The Muppets Christmas Movie each year. The true Christmas Carol story is dark. A man is visited by his dead partner, whos rotting jaw falls apart in his hand. Then three ghosts appear, the last one able to destroy his life on a whim. Its not Disney. This adaptation is quite brilliant, its a story of redemption, of love and of caring for your fellow man. Its a story of a human being shown the error of his ways and more importantly given a chance to change.

...just to add, at the very end, when Mrs. Kratchit declares the work of the three spirits have more to do; and she stabs her stare at the camera (audience/... me), I have a feeling of forbodden that the world or... I ... will be warranted much more "visitations" in our... or .... my (which is it? Does she know me more than I expect? kind of spookier than most movies) ... future! 😞😲😐
