actually the debate mostly occurred due to western vs african cultural differences. as for "both testaments", there is a serious need for a debate to clear up the issue as neither say anything of the sort. there's an obsolete prohibition against feminizing a man in leviticus, a description of pagan excesses in romans and a word of unknown meaning in 1 Cor/1 Tim. there's also an explanation of why people get married in gen 2 and a discussion of how it relates to divorce in mat 19. none of these contain any categorical statement that "all same-secs relationships are inherently immoral".

It is confusing, until we accept the Biblical authority as the Word of God, relevant to people of all ages, and study it as such. Then it becomes very clear. Some other people don't like that we cant harbor children, but there are over 2.5 million homeless children each year, so id rather try to reduce that number. I really don't understand why people don't like gay people. It was the same for black people, they had no rights. Same thing for women. Why do we have to discriminate against the creations of God? We were all made by God, so are we gay people's mistakes? I thought God had a plan for us, so his plan is to send us to hell? Of course not; God sees us all the same, and judges us for our decisions. @@tmo4330 From researching the original greek verse Jude 7, You can see that they don't use the word homios, which is where we get the word homosexual. Jude most likely is talking about condemning sexual interactions with humans and angels.

I don't know much about the Methodists but even churches which are strongly Bible-based are divided over this issue as well. It's more about traditions and power versus compassion and love than people realize. Even if the tradition is a very recent development like beliefs about homosecsuality.

The two most recent surveys I've found on this issue are from the USA and Australia. While the stats vary between denominations, all have a significant proportion who hold that there is nothing wrong with it. Overall they were 50-50. The idea originated from a mistranslation around the middle of last century. It developed into a full-blown theology around 30 to 40 years ago. I was around when it happened. Before that, they thought the sin was not gaiety but soda-me, and that belief was not even based on the Bible at all but a tradition based on human reasoning. But I've looked into it closely and the belief that it's wrong does not hold up to scrutiny. Not only does the Bible fail to teach it, it contradicts the Bible and has only ever done harm, sometimes horrific harm, ruining faith, lives and families. I would urge you to reconsider.

The Bible says "in Christ there is no male and female" (Gal 3); "if your gift is teaching, then teach" (Rom 12). 1 Tim is advice in a 1st cent patriarchal context where men might not follow gospel principles and respect women. Even so, there are instances of women in positions of authority in the new testament. In the present era when we know that treating women as inferior is wrong, to refuse women certain positions is workplace discrimination. It's immoral. Churches that practice it need to repent. As for same-secs marriage, I came to a similar conclusion as Vines independently through my own study of the scriptures, as have others. The idea that same-secs attraction is a form of Iust to overcome has been discredited scientifically, scripturally and morally. The idea is evil, having done nothing but incredibly harm. It is not a mere matter of "fitting personal feelings". Innocent people - especially children - have been subjected to anguish, depreshon, rejection by family, homelessness, loss of faith, sue-side, and more. Sorry but dismissing dead children as "fitting personal feelings" is an unacceptable attitude for a follower of Christ.

1. i have been waiting for the supporters to quote atleast one scripture that says God blessed a BLACK marriage, it doesnt exist so they cant quote it. 2. why is she attacking the Africans opinion? if she doesnt care then she can be BLACK and not call herself a Christian, just do your thing and stop trying to attack the church 3. The Bible never DOES condemn homosexuality as an orientation, or loving same-sex relationships. Confused and/or ignorant men only contend it does. The Bible never condemns people of color, yet again, confused and/or ignorant men contend that it does (and have used their misinterpretation of scripture to write anti-black discrimination into law). You also don't understand how the word "abomination" is used in the Bible, It is not comparable to today's definition of the word. In scripture, "abomination" simply means an act that is outside of usual tribal custom. Asking me to repent for acknowledging reality and schooling homophobes is akin to demanding Jesus repent for standing up to the Pharisees. In the end, it's pointless, because truth always wins out. You will come to understand, on Judgment Day.

It's the main story I know from the Bible where severe discipline is involved is why I brought it up... I do love you neighbor, and I am not saying that sarcastically... just seems weird anyone would want anyone to be severely disciplined or kicked out of the church, even if they are "the enemy" so to speak... its more I don't understand I guess, so I'm sorry for the sarcasm in the first post, that wasn't nice of me, I just wanted to offer an alternative point of view, and I could've worded it better.
