A City of the Future Hidden in the Desert

Against a backdrop of a global energy crisis, here’s a sustainable city that’s already been built, that we all need to see. I visited Masdar City in Abu Dhabi and saw a practical example of how modern technology will help us reduce energy consumption, breathe cleaner air, and create a better quality of life. for all. Living in cities doesn’t mean a life sentence of pollution, congestion and noise. Every government needs to look at Abu Dhabi’s brave sustainable city experiment.

People saying there is no one around I think thats because its misleading to call it a city, it’s more liken a huge campus for research into renewable energy. Even the students who live their. Their energy consumption is constantly monitored while they are at home etc

I think that a lot of people will live there in the next few years surely it’ll be pricey but it’s called a “city” for a reason. Also I don’t think that they’ve finished it yet so that’s why there’re only students and workers there currently

To call it a city wouldn't there have to be some people? You don't need a whole city for the 3 or 4 i saw. A single house would do just fine.

because they are still building it, only students of the city & ppl who work there live rn

Looks amazing. I only wish they plant more greens there. What temperature is on the streets of the city?
@maratonlegendelenemirei3352
No rain. Trees can't sustain themselves without rain.
@ashh3051
@ashh3051 5 месяцев назад
@@maratonlegendelenemirei3352 They could irrigate them. The question is, does the city have enough water for that? If not, why did they not adequately plan a water supply for the city? They should be able to do desalination using solar energy.

The video starts showing us a big square & only few trees. Where is the greenery? Glass, concrete and few trees and plants in pots - this is not an eco city. As for narrow streets and those electric cars - great. But glass buildings are magnifing the sunrays and reflect back the light producing warming effects.

Yes there maybe, with a wealthy population who wish to look after the place, but can you imagine the place with some of the dregs that you find in most western city’s?

Dense and Walkability: nice Transit: Tbh for the size of the "city" it seems sufficient, but its not scalable at all, it would be laughably inadequate for even a large town. But heck, better than most of the UAE, especially Dubai. Not defaulting to skyscrapers: nice UAE's use of essentially slave labour in near all construction: Yeh I dont have to explain that one. Weighting these evenly: 6/10 Weighting these appropriately: -∞/10

Looks so heavily regulated though. Always the way when tech leads culture. Corporate city in a desert. We've seen this played out in films and architecture but not for real. They've done exceptionally well to build this and it is a modern wonder, but this is not life. It's stale and too clean and without any sense of 'life' in the soul. This may well be the future then! But only for those that can afford it I imagaine. The future is not in cities. The city is a 20th Century phenomena.

Por enquanto a ideia aparenta ser para ricos, mas se amplia em conjunto por governos em enormes áreas delimitadas, também deixando grande natureza para plantar e dar frutos, parece uma solução até para acabar com a pobreza.

Ive Been Hearing About Masdar City Since 2013 When They Did The Bloomberg Special On It. And In 11 Years I Can Truly Say I've Seen No Major Difference Nor Progress. Its Seem As If There Still In the Same Phase As They Were I 2013😆.I Think Its Time To Admit This Project Didn't Meet There Goal. Its Still Impressive & Innovated. But Its Also Was Kind Of A Flop SMH

'Green nonsense'. It's ok to like cars and also care about the impact they and the world has on the planet you know. Maybe you're too old to care though. And this is barely green.
