There should be a mode for the RGB to always use the average color of the front display. That would give the illusion that what's shown on the front shines light on the wall behind!

I took the image for the fake nixie and did an average blur in Photoshop to see the RGB color value. Then set the value on the clock, set the breathe speed very slow for a very nice effect.

The designers of that display ( displayed at 5:00 ) did a fantastic job of getting the photocell persistence affect of the old HP test equipment. That alone is worth mention. Very neat!

characters from "random images" are from Stein;s Gate anime, it's about time travel and to keep track of actual date and time it's quite often presented to viewer, always using Nixie style font, so I guess that's the reason they are on Nixie clock

Heh, it just occurred to me that the customization option means that if you wanted to mess with people, you could invent your own cipher digits, so that the clock is meaningless to anyone else.

Might not be too hard to crack. Just watch the second stick by and when the next digit changes you know which one is zero. Then starting from there you can watch the numbers and record their place. Still fun.

I bought two of these a little over 2 months ago from AliExpress to compliment the 48 Nixie clocks I have throughout my house. They have been solid and very enjoyable to customize if your willing to create custom bitmaps for each digit and load them into the clock under DYI. Wish they had wifi sync or GPS to maintain exact time but it's been keeping time fairly decent.

Yes it’s strange when you think about it. While I definitely find myself a fan of the series and VN, I can’t help but feel that the divergence meter has become the standard template for almost all nixie clocks and other displays, just a box with the tubes standing up out of them. Personally I’d prefer to see displays akin to industrial soviet control panels. End-display nixies can give some more flexibility with mounting styles, though they’re typically not as large. Also the upside-down 5/2 thing is peak aesthetic.

I ordered mine through your US Ebay link on May 9 and it arrived on June 5, at the very beginning of the promised window. It looks great beneath my monitor. A right-angled USB C connector makes it look even better. Haven't made a new set of numbers so far but have enjoyed playing with those included with the downloadable software.

I know those screens. Those are 1,14'" SPI interface screens meant for smartwatches. So they grabbed a bunch of those and used them as psuedo digits. That is pretty clever!

I love clocks and am definitely tempted by this one. I like that you can customise the font / background (my living room contains lots of 1920s / 30s furniture, lamps etc, so I'd probably go for a cool Deco-era typeface) and I'd use the LED backlighting to illuminate the recessed shelf on the fireplace where I'd display it - again it would really complement the 30s look. The only downside is the lack of any way of syncing it via bluetooth etc. I know some people are anti-app due to the very real issues with obsolescence, but as an add on (i.e. not fundamental to the operation of the clock, but a way of adding extra features) it would be nice to have. If it was £50 rather than £80 I'd have no problem justifying it to myself!

Good stuff. If I could justify it, I'd get one. This could actually be a good case for transparent OLED displays. Those exist, but their usefulness is limited. There is a TV that has a transparent OLED, and the screens in general exist, but they're mainly for shop windows, to allow people to look inside the shop whilst simultaneously displaying ads and the like. This could definitely improve the overall aesthetic of the faux nixie tubes. Give it more of an illusion of depth if there wasn't a solid background.

Too bad they're not using the WiFi module in it, looks to be an ESP8266 or 32. They can be used as a cheap intergrated SoC like it's being used here and it just works, I'm so close to buying one lol. Also I think I know a way to dim the displays, edit the images to be darker 😜

Oh yeah I see what you mean, that definitely looks like an ESP32. That would be really useful, I'm thinking some kind of NTP client to keep the time accurate.

Got mine about month ago.. Preordered on Banggood. I had to wait about 3 months for it to arrive. Very cool product. Glad to see the English version of software is available now. Hoping the community develops better software with Wifi support.

Seems like even if you didn’t like the rainbow RGB cycle on the back, you’d at least want them to be orange to emulate the glow given off by real nixie clocks.
