A Closed HD600 Headphone! Sennheiser HD620S Review 

Hi👋Thank you so much for the review and awesome footage! We wanted to offer the viewers some notes from mothership. The HD 5-- chassis is terrific for A) the transducer geometry B) long term comfort C) producing a closed back at scale where leakage variances cannot be tolerated. The HD 6-- series is open and hand-assembled, so variances in the baffle assembly, etc are negligible. Neither the 5-- nor the 6-- are good candidates to fold up, however. We indeed increased the depth of the ear cavity vs the old 5-- series by about 5mm, based on user feedback. For tuning, we wanted to straddle clarity and balance with fun so that you get vibe without straying too far from the original recording. With regard to soundstage, we'll respectfully debate you on that and designed it to be a panoramic experience, especially compared to the the closed-back category--ultimately we hope anyone reading and watching gets a chance to try them with a favorite source and set of test tracks🎧 Great work and we welcome the feedback (pun intended)💙 Edit: HD 620S is wired for balanced and a 4.4mm cable is coming mid-summer 2024

can you make a comparison between these and the DT700 Pro X and the DT 770 Pro X ?

Outside of the Audeze, what other closed set would you suggest? I have the HD600, HD660S2, and the Ultrasone Edition 11. The Ultrasone to me probably has the best bass of an open back I've heard, while just being good at everything. Just trying to figure out where these would fit in my collection.

I need headphones that can totally isolate me from noise and the voices of people around me, would you recommend the best headphones with noise reduction? It would definitely be handy to have a microphone with the same noise reduction and maybe wireless, because I use them exclusively for gaming. Thank you very much!

Awesome video as usual! Quick question to you and any other experts, do headphone extension "clicks" on the headband have to match for the left and right side? Does this affect sound quality? Or should I just look for the most comfortable fit?

I wish you talked more about the physical build, like what comes in the box in terms of cables or accessories, are the ear cups replaceable, and if so how do they connect? Via clips? Are they magnetic? etc.

Hello, I just want to use one earphone and don't want to be tired of switching devices all the time depending on the type of music. I listen to 80% classical and 20% jazz and pop. I I think I like mm500 very much, and I think the instrument part is quite good, and the vocals are in the front, so the female voice sounds good. Do you recommend other headphones at this level? I think the Sound Stage of the mm500 is ok. For classical music, the instrument is not too modified and artificial, the low-frequency dive is enough for jazz. I'm still looking for a sound I like, maybe you can give me some advice or other information.

How can the average person monitor SPL levels while using headphones? Is there an app or is that something that needs to be designed/built in? An earcup mic w/ feedback to the mobile app.

Really excited to get a pair when I can but really baffled why these were placed in the 600 series.

I tried this headphone and I also found it was not for me. I was impressed with the isolation and with the fact that the bass and highs were not exaggerated, and it sounded quite nice with my electronic music. Unfortunately I found the timbre to be off and it just didn’t do classical/orchestral music justice. (This was listening with iFi Go Bar Kensei).

Always wanted a HD6x line closed back, so thank you Sennheiser for your efforts on this one, however... Guessing it uses the same super-microphonic cable as the rest of the HD5xx line - is it not possible to make a cable using the same materials as the HD6x cables? Also this chassis is notoriously quite creaky and plasticky, which is okay if you never move your head at all... I think this would have been a no-brainer if the price was $200 - $250 as Joshua mentioned. Unfortunately there is no place in my country to test these so I need to rely on reviews and comparisons to make sense of the pros and cons.

The 620s looks like a closed back version of the open back version of the 520s with a different number and line from sennheiser line of headphones. I wonder if any of the current sennheiser engineers would consider engineering the close back marble version of the open back version of the sennheiser hd 600. I have the marble version of the sennheiser hd 600 and I have been looking for the same sound signature, same tuning, same frequency response, same drivers as the sennheiser hd 600 but in a close back version, even the same 300 ohm impedance. Basically clone the original marble version of the hd 600 or even the redesigned version of the current hd 600 but have it close back instead of open back with the same exact specs and features. I have the neumann ndh20 close back headphones. I don't know how many hours of burn in I did with my neumann headphones because I did not keep track of it. When I first bought them, the bass was not as warm until I burned them in but the bass response is leaning towards the warmth side because the engineers for neumann design the headphones to be similar to the hd 650 or the hd 6XX.

Curious if an iPhone with the Apple 3.5mm dongle can drive the HD620S. That setup is just slightly, and unfortunately, insufficient to drive the HD600's in my opinion. I use my HD600's mostly with an RME audio interface but sometimes it'd be convenient to use them on the go for more casual listening without other extraneous third-party hardware.

What made me decide I like them was a 5min listening test right after hearing the He-1 And they still sounded good which impressed me a lot I also heard the Maxwell at Munich which I didn't like at all, even worse than some IEMs at 60 bucks Maybe something bad with my connection, idk, but the HD620S, Meze Alba and Warwick Bravura were my absolute Highlights

IMO, the headband and the design doesn't look like it's a part of the Sennheiser 600 series, not sure if the HD620's name should be slapped on there

i got ws1100is broke after 6 years, akg the propeitary cable is garbage, my hd500s still work if i buy something im getting sennheiser again

It's like they took the 560s, which actually sounds great, and replaced the grills with blanking plates. Although it does look like the resistance values are different.

Looks like a slight upgrade on the 560, not close to the 600 series range, hard to beat my 6xx

Lets not forget about one of the most significant differences between the 500 an 600 lines. The 500 line is running low on model numbers.

Nice review! I have kinda have the impression that Sennheiser didn't like the feedback they got for the 660s2... The sound quality got overshadowed by the bang for the buck aspect that didn't seem to be there, So... They thought "Hey, let's design and produce drivers in Ireland, so the sound will be great, and let's assemble it in China to keep cost low. Oh, we could even use the exact same assembly line than the 500 series models..." I still think this should have been a 500 series flagship. But hey, would have less marketing impact than calling a 500 series 620s I guess haha

Guys, come on, really. Why are you comparing it to the 6xx series? Who cares why sennheiser called it with 6 digit, it's just marketing. I as a buyer am only interested in comparison with other closedback headphones in a similar budget.

I got this headphone today and to be honest, I dont like it, the bass is very pillowy, and the treble makes the timbre metallic

I tested the HD 620S last Saturday and I am not impressed at all. Sennheiser sells them as "closed back headphones sounding like open back ones" what is simply not true. The HD 620S is too expensive with USD 350 and I agree with you that it is in the USD 200-250 range. I must admit that I am very biased to open back headphones.

Sennheiser is i think the only brand in audiophile headphone section who is not innovating at all. Just releasing overpriced products in the name of brand value. Every other brand hifiman, audeze, DCA, ZMF , modhouse, hedd audio, meze focal is releasing some different from their existing products with more competitive pricing than before but these guys are just soo lazy and also increaing the cost

The review is completely biased. Yes, sennheiser wanted to be bold with the statement "closed back hd6 serie model" but the reviewer has the responsibility to compare them againist the other closed back cans. Picking up every little difference they have from the most tonally accurate open hp's in the world is a bit unfair. Saying that they can be compared to that abomination of audeze wireless monster (the most nasal, lifeless and unaccurate experience i had from a so well praised pair I've ever heard) is another lie. They can be boxy if not correctly weared. On my average head they seal well but only at the final click of the arm extension mechanism. So, maybe you have a bigger head and in this case , better not to judge a pair you can't have a seal with. The pistolero reviewer knows better how to manage opinions. The mannequin friend evidently can't wear these, and the big felin is launching his own. Please be fair. I want to trust you guys, but remain unbiased.
