Thanks so much for giving these a try, Joe! We don't mind a long review at all and appreciate your in-depth feedback. Glad to hear you are enjoying them!
Planar Magnetic Drivers aren't just a magical technology. There are awful applications of it and great applications of it. It is still subject to mediocrity in hardware and software.
This is the best review of the Sennheiser HD620S I have seen. Talked about the graph, compared them other other closed backs, talk about the clamp force and how these relate to the rest of the Sennheiser family. Honestly you covered it all and in a very straight forward and honest manner. I've gone down a rabbit hole on these and plan to buy them when I can but as far as what everyone else is saying I can agree, these seem to be one of the better closed back headphones to date. Sennheiser put in the work and got something actually usable. Closed back headphones aren't easy, there is a reason you struggle to find a good pair outside of the Sony, Bose, Beats and Apple wireless headphones. Glad Sennheiser pulled it off in a way.
@@GadgetryTech Just got them. I am quite pleased with them for what they are, but I think they are a bit overpriced. Compared to my HD 400 Pros (which are the most accurate pair of headphones there probably is), there is overall less dynamic. The HD 620s doesn't sound like an open back, but it does have the same type of "soundstage" due to the angled drivers. I think the slight bump above 100 Hz helps mask the less dynamic nature of the driver (due to dampening) and adds a bit of warmth to the overall presentation while keeping a relatively neutral tonality. I don't have a problem with that. The tonality of the mids are quite good, but not as accurate as the HD 400 Pro. The biggest weakness of the HD 620s is the treble. It's definitely not bad by any means, but compared to the HD400 Pro they are less detailed, less clear, and the timbre of hi hats are a bit unnatural.
@@qw9 They'll sound very good out of anything you plug 'em into, but an amplifier definitely gives it that last 10% of awesomeness. They sound divine with a questyle M12/M15 dongle, it's my favourite pairing so far.
I've always wanted to try those Rode headphones, thanks for reminding me of them, that graph looks nice. I just got the Aune ar5000, do you plan on reviewing those?
Thanks! So I’ve been getting asked a lot about the Aune headphone. I’ve written to the company but still haven’t heard back from them. I worry the video won’t be popular enough to justify the investment but I’m debating on it
@@Petrus-d2f they are a good balanced sounding headphone. Like the hd600 with bass basically. Also better imaging and soundstage with vocals front and center, so it should be great for gaming.
ZMFs have much bigger bass humps in there closed backs and cost way more. People should start listening to the sound and not the price tag or the look.
How would you compare these to something like the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro for imaging and soundstage and other headphones currently on the market? I am trying to figure out what would work best for pinpointing footsteps and where my opponents are
Hey Gadgetry, would love to see you get a hold of the Zreviews Harmonicdyne Eris and compare it to this. Goes on sale next week but I know Z said review units will go out as well.
Have you done a video on your EQ recommendations for Rainbow 6 Siege? I’d love to see one, if not. Been using the HD560s and these are interesting to me for games where footsteps are so important.
maybe you would have better fit/isolation etc. without a hat ? people forget to mention that for open-backs you have to add quiet room to the equation (no A/C, fan running or other people....)
I would like to have a sound profile almost identical to the Alg K371 but with a little less bass and more forward voices... Do you think these Sennheisers could be right for me?
If you were to eq the Rode NTH-100m how does it end up comparing afterwards with the 620s technicality wise ? Also i feel like havin the regular DT770 Pro 80 ohm would be better since thats the one most people have(one of the most popular ones still)
Can we get a bit more in regards to comparing this to the Maxwells? Which sounds better, bass and overall fidelity? Is comfort that different on longer periods because we are comparing a suspension strap with really good spreading of the weight to a fixed cusion headband. Thank you, love your reviews.
great review! would you say, the bass of the 620s comes close to the bass of the DT 770 Pro X LE out of the box? im not a bass head but i remember the bass on the HD650 being really weak...
I have both .. straight out of the box. Music wize the DT 770 pro X winswith its beautiful non bloated bass. 620s has a tight linear bass but lacks impact. But hey what do I know 😊
I love my 560S, but have been wanting something better for sound isolation when family invades my gaming space 😊. I’ve considered the maxwells, but last time I tried them, I couldn’t tile the discomfort they caused. Wouldn’t 620S be a worthy “upgrade” from the 560S, while also providing enough passive noise cancellation to drown out a TV blaring in the background?
For cod, pubg, r6 competitive play. Which one do you recommand between this one or hd490pro? My pc is quiet noctua fan pc so i can use open 490pro with no issue, but only my concern is when i use some openback(like dt1990) sometimes my mic captures my headphone audio via discord... so i cant decide 620s or 490pro well.. can you help me?
I wonder if they might be alright for mixing. I really miss the Sennheiser's HD8, which I was in love with. I was wondering if they were anything like those considering they are closed but with a little less oomph in the kick drum region. DT770 have always been a bit much in the highs for me. Also wondering how durable do these feel.
Thank you for the review..I just got the maxwells and while i love very much the sound of them its hard for me to use them because the vaccum effect they creating..how are these compare to them in terms of bass? i really like the bass on the maxwells
Hi joe i play sports games shooters story games what would be the best sounding hifiman arya organic or the sennheiser 620 i just what the best sounding thanks joe happy gaming to you
660s2 should ideally be the better choice if you don't care about noise isolation. Open backs will always have better sound quality than a closed back one. Plus 660s2 is an upgrade over the 20 year old 600s in every way, so yes its a better choice. I own a 660s2 and its the best headphone I've owned
Yes, but not advisable. The 620s got faux leather with perforations for both venting and acoustics -> putting other 5xx series earpads will impact the sound, isolation and comfort.
@@GadgetryTech Do I need amps and additional equipment to make these sound good, or do they sound good by themselves? Will I be able to use this with small devices, like an iPod nano?
Fantastic review and very informative. Looking forward to your more detailed opinion of the Rode headphones; they seem more my budget. Question: what are those headphone stands you use? I am looking for storage options and those look neat
Thanks! I’ll try my best to release that video when I can. The stands at form ROOMs audio. They are rather expensive but i wanted heavy stands that would last forever. www.thomannmusic.com/rooms_audio_line_typ_fs_pro_bk_headphone_stand.htm
@@Noneya5555 they sound great. They have great bass and great imaging. Ive owned a ton of headsets over the years for gaming. These are probably my favorite. I’ve owned the HD 560s a few Bayer dynamic ones along with a few other gaming ones, and these are the best I’ve out of all the ones I’ve owned. They sound so good specially if you have a dac/amp to power them. If you can EQ them, they sound even better.
@@3_kids_one_shot726 Thanks for the reply. It sounds like what I'm looking for. Have you had a chance to compare it to any of the HD6XX series of cans? If so, what's your take on them?
@@Noneya5555 yes I have. I prefer these much better. More expensive but in my opinion the sound is better. Much better bass response and overall better I sound. 490 have such great precise imaging
I don't usually do requests/suggestions, but given the fact that you're one of the only reviewer for anything sound related that I find very useful and trustworthy, I'm actually curious if you'd give the Sony Bravia Theatre U neckband thing a test, especially since that there aren't much coverage on those.
Isn't that bump at 110 hz made so it would fit gaming? I can't recall, but I think I read these focused on gaming? Anyways. If you eq the 110down a tad do they get that deep subbase? Great channel this is. ✨
Closed backs have the benefit of sound isolation, and sometimes more bass impact depending on the model. For more accurate sound reproduction, open acoustic all the way! At least in the headphone space.
Am I missing something? No disrespect but the 620s are a no go especially compared to the Dt 770 Pro X LE where straight of the box become alive. Brilliant tuning to say the least. The 620s imo just didn't excite but then again I don't have any of the upgrading tuning devices either. Excellent review. I can't wait for your review of The Dt 770 Pro X LE in which I know I hope everyone will enjoy as much as I. Shh the secret is out...Aune-AR5000 is another to also consider.
See I think I'm the opposite. I don't like the DT770 Pro X, they sound too thin, shouty for me. Mostly because when compared directly to the 620S they have less mid bass and more treble. 620S have less sub base and less treble but a much better mid range. So they really are for two different types of people. You will either like one or the other not both. Also for the price difference I think Sennheiser have better build quality. (Just an opinion).
@@burns0100 it is amazing how two people have a difference in hearing and interpreting sounds. Aside the Senns having a pronounce midrange they simply lack sparkle transparency air if you will.. How you describe the DT 770 pro X is exactly how I hear the 620's. No umph no dynamics sounding just like another Philips HD..very cardboard sounding. In my opinion.. the Beyerdynamics are epic in comparison. .dynamic soundstage that punchy bass airy instrument separation midrange sparkly highs without fatigue. Lol I guess I love my Dt 770 pro X which is funny because I have never enjoyed a Beyerdynamic until now. Thank you.
@@Petrus-d2f It's very much a case of two similar headphones with different tuning takes (basically focusing on different aspects of the frequency response) and then how our ears reproduce that sound. That's why audio is so subjective. Even when he mentioned using different measuring rigs is like another pair of ears. It's so true.
@gadgetry tech I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart today is Father’s Day and I use turtle Beach stealth pro to play just now Crosby stills Nash and Young our house to my DAD and for the first time my life I saw my dad cry.
