By popular demand I decided to show a closer look at the offset flail mower. How the hydraulics hookup, how they work the mower and a look at the working side of the mower itself. Hydraulic flow restrictors are not going to be a thing for me, this mower moves in and out and up and down very smoothly. #nothingrunslikeadeere #2038R #devildog

Patrick thank you for the video, it appears that all my hydraulics are ready for that Impliment. Also thanks for proving no reducers are needed only the development of smooth action with the hydraulic levers. Can you tell me the overall length from the top link to the rear of the cutter when fully extended. Extremely jealous of your beautiful level land there.

I have the AGL 165. I have had to weld it up a couple of times where the hitch connects to the main unit and the bearings on the rear roller have not lasted for me either. I pull it several hours at the time but it has not been abused. It does a good job but is rather light made to do that type of work. I just recently took the hammers out and replaced them with the grass blades and have run it about 20 yours with them on it.

update 2 comments below re shaft casing issue - found the fault - with the head fully offset at at max depression for ditching the pto shaft comes in contact with the supporting cross arm assembley smashing the casing - solution we fixed a stop to prevent full depression of the head and a 4"PTO extension to the tractor pto to throw the alingment of the drive shaft over - thanks for your feedback re issue - nick w wales uk

Great video, did the hydraulic hoses come with the pioneer 1/2" male couplers? If not, what did they come with?

They came with 1/2” AG and hooked right up to the outlets on my tractor. Just so you know, there is a difference between 1/2” AG and Pioneer. I know this because all of our larger equipment ie. the Dion dump wagon, the hay tedder etc. is Pioneer. I had to make adapters so I could hookup to them. I bought female Pioneer ends and male 1/2” AG ends and put them together with iron pipe.

A couple of questions, What is the cut height range? And about those remotes, is the float detent valve on the vertical lift, the only type remote that would work?

This one has a range of 1-6" of cut height, right now I've settled in on 4", seems to work well. As for the float detent on the one scv, it will work on any scv, you simply wouldn't have the option to float the mower. But as I have mentioned, I find myself not using float very much at all, it's easier to just pay attention and control it manually.

Can you give us a ballpark price on the offset and hydraulic package…what is your cut length…?

The mower was $2800, I think the two remotes on the rear of the tractor were around $1700. If you are talking about the overall length with the mower it's quite a bit, it really sticks out there, especially when swung out.

Is the cutting height adjustable on yours? How does it do mowing the lawn vs the heavier grass?

Yes, the rear roller and top link adjust the cut height. I’ve never mowed our yard with it, but I would imagine it would do a fine job.

@@ElkCreekAcres does your tractor have weights or ballast? Hows the 2038r handle the weight with that flail fully offset out? Does it feel tippy ?

@@AlexBuker honestly I was pleasantly surprised at how well the 2038 handled this mower, though a 3R would likely handle it better. Not tippy at all unless I’m already on a slope, otherwise rock solid.

I’m hooked Are these cast or forged hammers?….do you have the make/model number…?…..if it’s light enough ….I will get a smaller Kubota. What is the weight and actual cut width…our roads…are just where the equipment hits the brush and trees….I want to give this jungle a scalping job…we are approaching the fire season…so I have to act….

This is the Bestsco AGL-145, 57” cut, weight is 751 lbs. With the 2038R it was right at the outside edge of the rear tire when fully offset.

noticed the pto shaft shied is in bits - ours did the same after 4hrs work from new - any idea of the cause and is there a good fix?

Mine did it after about 30 minutes. Not sure if I'd call it a fix, but I did manage to get the three clips on the implement side to grab. If you look at a couple of later videos it is were it should be. I think it's just a cheap design with the clips.

They've been around here for for quite a number of years. Highway maintenance crews have been using these or other hydraulic versions for years, but they're just catching on in the private sector.
