THIS IS PERFECT! I've specifically been wanting to make a wooden cross out of basic materials and wasn't sure what i wanted to use or how i was gonna make it.
Try pulling it apart. The cowhitch grabs the ends pretty tightly on its own. If there's a lot of movement, the lashing might work itself apart - you could tie the ends in a square knot.
In Holland one specific type of knot that won't do cause it won't hold is called the 'old woman's knot' (although the word used for old woman is slightly impolite). This seems to be a double version of something like that. I don't see how it is gonna be good enough to hold the two crossing 'beams' securely in place without giving if there would be any repeated move or strain. Even though, unlike the old woman's knot', this one looks very nice
Have you tried to unty this knot? I did and don't like this knot in that respect. But for a permanent knot very nice clean knot! If you want to prevent sideways movement. You can make an extra turn with the ends around the horizontal rod before sticking the ends tree the two loops.
Watch step for step repeatedly and copy the movements one by one. Step one demonstrates the rope over the pole with the ends facing to the back - behind the horizontal pole. The bend yo the front facing you. I missed this first step a fe times and couldn't figure the rest out. 😊
👍👌👏 👏 👏 Sooo easy but strong. Definitely better than anything I used before. Something practical like this should be taught in schools. Thanks a lot for making teaching recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health in particular.
Then don't cut off the ends. You could use simple overhand knots to stop it coming undone or use a longer cord and make the lashing more secure with clove hitches
