What comes first - mind or matter? Is our material reality "really real"? Or, is there a spiritual realm? When we hear the word "materialism", two words appear in front of our eyes: consumerism and hedonism. In this video, we will reject this shallow definition and look into the real philosophical materialism. This is the philosophy that shaped Marxism, through dialectical materialism.
Notes:
1. I've used Feuerbach's image at 41:54, but that does not mean Feuerbach was exactly a "mechanical materialist". Refer to Engel's writing on Feuerbach: www.marxists.org/archive/marx...
2. Have used a very simple definition (which isn't much of a "definition") of "dialectics". For more details: www.marxists.org/archive/leni...
3. Have tried to simplify Berkeley's views. However, there are different interpretations of Berkeley's views. Tried to accommodate his idea of the supreme perceiver as well.
