A Completely Unbiased Review of Owlboy 

The game has an amazing world, sound track, atmosphere, charm, and characters... The whole shebang! But the gameplay is lackluster as it has so much potential but doesn't really push the envelope on core mechanics. Also, the ending feels extremely rushed. It escalates so quickly out of nowhere, despite having one of the better climactic moments of most adventure games.

As every one said, the game has more style than subtances. It has good music, the pixel art is among the best ever seen, the characters are so expressive and well designed. It's a good enough game, but it's not great. The gameplay doesn't feel fun at all, even though you could fly, but you just spamming bullets at stuffs and stepping on buttons. Everything feels repetitive after 2 hours. The control is hugely annoying, the dropping teammates are very awkward at some scene. When you switch teammates around, it is very confusing when they can just be attached to each button instead. The characters aren't really interesting, only Otus is likable enough because he's cute and doesn't talk, everyone else feels like villager A or B. And the shallow plot really hurts, the ending is like "I don't want to explain to you, I don't have time!!... oh you beat me, let me explain this slowly why I did this" and I can't even believe that was the ending, I thought we were gonna fight the Captain but they baited that out multiple times and just gave up on the premise. The game just ends out of nowhere, the plot just went to a different direction in the last arc. The whole flying mechanic is also removed entirely at the end.

Exactly was looking for that kind of video and I will try it now on my Steam Deck.

Love this game

I'm very late to this as well, as I'm currently playing this and roughly halfway through. You can see a lot of love went into the setting, art and music, and I do mean a lot. It looks phenomenal and sounds fantastic. And... that's pretty much where the positives end for me. Beyond the opening hour or so, where everything feels fresh and intriguing, it quickly becomes incredibly bland to play. During its best moments, the gameplay is completely mediocre. Unfortunately, it's often worse. Some of the gameplay sections are, well, unenjoyable feels like a massive understatement. With gameplay like this, I'd struggle to recommend it to anyone as it is. If it wasn't for the stunning presentation, I'd probably rate this among the worst 2d games I've ever experienced.
