Great discussion. I was recently telling a friend to consider less flex for his new Outlier and the explanation here is much better than what I was saying.😂

Interesting. I find each board design prefers it’s own shape. That said if you like a particular shape board you’ll likely end up using the same fin for predictability. Most of my boards are gliders now. I usually ride fairly stiff fins set ups. Usually… Currently I installed a set of four FCS plugs in my 10’6trying out quad, 2+1, twin keel, and thruster set ups on my board. By the end of this winter I hope to have found a really good set up for it. They all work in small waves but I’m searching for a larger wave set up.

This is great! So is the 1/3 based on fin depth? Should fin rake be considered? I have two fins at 9". One is upright and the other much more raked. At the 6" mark, the raked fin has far more fin past the rail line.

I think it's a rule of thumb and a place to start and that you should make adjustments as needed, which is what I did

For us at the shop we usually ask 1 Board size 2 Weight 3 How long they have been surfing for 4 How often they surf 5 What type of riding they want to do, Just Noseride , Performance and NR, All Around, just pure performance. Based off that we use a chart for fin sizes we created with the help from fins unlimited and recommend a fin. The persons weight and ability we feel has a lot to do with it.

Hi! I have a CJ Nelson x Ryan Engle Neoclassic 9'5. Tell me what fins of CJ Nelson or any other do you recommend for noseriding? I was using RFC Nomad 10'25 but i feel it too fast and my weight is 73 kg. Thanks!
@hawaiiansouthshore
@hawaiiansouthshore Год назад
mmm thats a tough one the that RFC Nomad 10'25 should slow the board down. The Neoclassic has a little harder rails so unlike the Sprout it's a little more performance and it's hard to noseride so that might be the issue. what do you think?
@AndreSuarez89
@AndreSuarez89 Год назад
@@hawaiiansouthshore Uhmm yeah its true... but its possible to noseride the Neoclassic (I did it and just maybe with more practice i can handle it). I was thinking of Noserider Fin of CJ Nelson 10'5 or Cali Pivot Fin 11', but I saw that the second one has more rake than Noserider Fin. Any advice?

@@AndreSuarez89 I would recommend the Cali Pivot Fin 11' to really slow it down and make it stable. - David

Hi can you tell me what board you want to use it on also if the board is a 2+1 do you want to single fin it or use it as a 2+1 set up. Include the tail shape What type of waves and size you want to surf it in. All this really makes a difference.

If you want to Single fin and get a little preference out of the fin plus get good noseriding Highly recommend the Kanoa Dahlin Miss Lucy. Kanoa a former Pro longboarder created this fins with the help of other pros on the circuit for a noseriding fin that has some drive down the line to make the sections and also hold thru the turns but still nosride just as well as a traditional pivot fin. Go to our site and in the search type in --> Miss Lucy and it will populate with all the fins. For you weight and in small to chest high wave maybe a 9" for that size board. If you are pretty advanced a 8.5 will work it will be not as stable but you'll be able to whip the board around. The fin has a big surface area so it's not going to slid out like a regular rake fin. NOTE To search for the size just enter miss lucy 8.5 or miss lucy 9.0 and it will filter out for you.

Crappy connection and poor communication. Instead of doing a live recording do a tutorial and upload. It’s too distracting.

What about the original hatchet fin shape?
@hss320

I think teh Hatchet is a really good fin. We've been recently selling a lot of them and people that have used them like it. One of our Team riders she won her first Noseriding contest with a Hatchet and how all her Uncles around her are digging it. - David
