haven't even watched the video yet but I'm so passionate about this subject and the watcha say the scene where everyone dramatically leaves the table is hands down the most iconic thing i have ever witnessed.
The best part of Blaire Waldort Must Pie for me is when her mom sends her to the kitchen to fetch a dessert for the table, and under the stress of her parent’s messy relationship she relapses into binge-eating. The moment where all the staff clear the room because they know she’s on the brink is legitimately quite chilling. The show felt very real and less soapy in that moment, showing how the turbulence of the broken home and a manipulative matriarch impacts not just Blaire but also the staff and how they have to work in such a toxic environment.
The scene was pretty disturbing The fact her mother gave her that pie knowingly, and then the staff leaving the room like it just happens every day. Blair's face at the end when she looks at her reflection Chilling 🥶
let me just say, watcha say will always go down in history for being in the background of 2 of the most, if not THE most, iconic scenes in television history. The GG thanksgiving dinner table scene AND the OC's sh00ting scene made into SNL skit. THE most iconic song in history methinks Edit: also, its the song adlib and voiceover u did making it evn more iconic YUP
season 1 will always be the best season, so of course the first thanksgiving episode would be the best one. i miss when gossip girl still had substance.
Blair Waldorf Must Pie is irrefutably the most iconic episode, not only amongst the Thanksgiving themed ones, but perhaps of the entire series. I’m glad it topped your list as it does, and always has/always will, for me(!) The flashbacks, the fashion… Blair’s very real struggle with Bulimia (which I actually wish would’ve gotten more traction/backstory/general exposure in the series as a whole). It‘s the the right amount of comedy, sweetness, and of course, plenty of drama, but not so much that it was ever over the top (unlike its predecessors, sorry not sorry). This episode, like my favorite Thanksgiving sides, is literal comfort “food.” I play it every year, Thanksgiving morning/early afternoon. I’d even go as far as to say that watching it on repeat is my most cherished Thanksgiving tradition. Even as someone with Daddy Issues, even though it does sting to see the heartwarming moments between Blair and her Father, I also look at them and think wow, a Father and Daughter duo that’s actually healthy and loving. If only (that was the case for myself and mine)… (!) PS: The “Dita” Marc Jacobs dress Blair wears when Eleanor coldly instructs her to “change into something a little more enchanting…” will never not be in my eBay watch list. That’s going on 16 years strong(!). If I had my old, slender body, and could get ahold of it for a fair price, I’d absolutely wear the hell out of it. The whole look with the capelet, the textured tights…if you know, you know(!).
The Thanksgiving episodes were the peak episodes of GG. Aside from the fashion, the Thanksgiving eps are what comes to mind automatically when I picture the show. Also, you’re right for putting Blair Waldorf Must Pie first!! The plots wove well and not only did it set the bar, it set the tone of the show.
I think an honourable mention would be that one episode where serena comes back from Spain (where she told Lily she'd be with Poppy and Gabriel) and then she thinks she's married to Gabriel, so she pretends to be with Dan, who not only was working as a waiter in that very dinner, but also someone she shared a half sibling with, though I can't really remember if this was a Thanksgiving episode or not. All I remember is that Cyrus was hosting a Hannukah? I loved that the background song was You Spin My Head Right Round.
LMAOOO I remember that episode!! I just felt so bad for Cyrus but it was sooo funny cus he was just so done with the drama when all he wanted was to have his wholesome jewish tradition
Watcha say is so iconic that even my parents, who have never seen GG know the scene and will reference it whenever we sit together as a family 💀 Also your voiceover of that scene was sending me
Everybody else’s faves got low rankings but mine got ✨#1✨ I win, girl😘💅🏾 The music was amazing! The ending was heartwarming! The switch from them happily fooling around in the bathroom with La Ritournelle playing in the background to Nate sitting mournfully on a bench and Blair curbing her ED behaviors by calling Serena (her chosen family!) breaks my heart and brings me life at the Same TIME! Literally, a masterpiece in story telling.
Every Thanksgiving since I watched the show I dress up in Gossip Girl fashion and watch the show while cooking. But this year I actually get to spend Thanksgiving in New York...talk about a real Gossip Girl experience.
My favorite is the iconic Whatcha Say scene, everyone’s side fights- Eric’s “your potatoes are bland” is one of my fav lines. And Cece going in for the kill at the end, just absolutely iconic. But I see where you’re coming from about Vanessa, she is extremely annoying, and an unnecessary side character that they kept bringing back
blair walk sorry must pie is my fave too! love the messiness of the rufus and lily situation and the episode has such a comfy vibe. they used flashbacks in such a good way
I have the exact same opinion on season 1 and 3. Season 3 has the best thanksgiving scene, the lines, the music, its iconic AF but season 1's whole thanksgiving episode is perfect and one of the best of the entire show even. I love all the drama and the flashbacks and the character's stories, it's amazing and also season 1 is the best anyway.
Am I the only one who likes the fourth season episode? I always kinda like the more serious episodes when it felt like the stakes were higher. And Serena always brought the drama. And I think the scenes of her with the therapist added a lot more to her character.
I love the episode as a television episode overall. If we were going purely off of how well-written the episode was, it deserves to be #2, but I can see why it's ranked so low. As a Thanksgiving episode, it's just too dark and depressing.
OMG the first thanksgiving episode broke my heart and then healed it, the flashbacks to me, back when they were all so happy and innocent and things were uncomplicated contrasted with the way things are now. Especially with the dynamic between Serena, Nate and Blair, in the bathroom flashback, if it happened in the present Blair would get suspicious and upset, Serena and Nate would feel all guilty and ice each other out even though they're good friends and everything would be even more complicated. But back then, it just ended as a fun water fight between three friends who loved each other. And it was especially heartbreaking because Blair goes to that exact bathroom after relapsing in bulimia.
Your ranking is correct. And your knowledge and perfect usage of mid-2000's camp/mems is PERFECT. Please do a first-episode review like you did w/ iCarly. PLEASE
Nolita Fairytale Vanessa Carlton is so nostalgic to me because of that Season 1 Thanksgiving episode! Like that ending montage alone put it at number one for me.
YES when the kids all just had thanksgiving dinner at a diner it was so wholesome! Especially cause Blair was there too and she'd usually turn her nose up at doing something like that, it just made it 10x better!
Yooo but the only thing ever to make sense about dan being gg was that he logged off on thanksgiving bc that was a special holiday for his family now that you mention it yeah
i totally agree that the first thanksgiving episode is the best - i feel like it's the first time in the show where you truly get to see all of the characters underlying traumas and struggles which makes you connect with them on a deeper level. loved your ranking
My only problem with this video is the lack of praise for the season 1 Blair Thanksgiving MARC By Marc Jacobs dress. 👏 To this day, I still dream of this dress. But also yes. No one likes Vanessa. Her getting written from the show was one of the best things to ever happen.
you're so right for putting season 1thanksgiving episode to top because very episode from season 1 is elite for me is such a aesthetic way of look 2000s New York especially flashback scenes always my favorite we should have seen more
Your videos are amazing 👏🏾 and iconic, your singing had me dying especially you voicing the characters had me weak 💀💀💀lmfaooo but I completely agree with your ranking the first season thanksgiving was perfect to me , the flashbacks the scenery probably because chuck wasn't in it lol
When you started singing whatcha say i DIED. and i completely agree with your ranking. im glad im not the only one who thinks season 1 thanksgiving was the best one 👀
the 1rst season is really gold, i wised they had more flash back about the before serena left to better understand their dynamic and past. like why are they friend with chuck? also more deep and complex depiction of the character and a growing apreciation of dan. Blair Waldorf Must Pie and Bad News Blair are amazing and blair and serena friendship+ messy parent should have been much more important. i always remember when serena tell her mom how she basicaly raised her little brother yet we never get to see it or trully see how it impacted her or her borther; It's all superficial and we really missed on a mindblowing show. instead we had an iconic one. The frsit season was a glips of this masterpiece also georgina sould have been part of the cast and carter as well
this is the first video of yours ive seen, and based on the intro alone, i know i'm going to love your channel. already subbed and we're at 39 seconds in
I love the original GG so much when I think about it 4 things come to mind The fashion The music Drama The Thanksgiving episodes I find Kristin Bell's voice very comforting
Girl, your list may be controversial, but it is perfection. Pure perfection. 5 - 'Gaslit'. As good as the episode itself is, it is super dark and has none of the Thanksgiving fun GG is known for. It does make me want to watch 'The Townie' straight away after that, which is one of my Top 10 favorite episodes of the series. 4 - 'The Magnificent Archibalds'. The pacing is odd. I have no idea if Nate's story is supposed to be the A-plot or the B-plot and I've watched this series many times. The other plotlines with Blair and Jenny are better and they're the only saving grace of the episode. 3 - 'It's Really Complicated'. Season Six itself is awful, but this is one of the three episodes in S6 I liked. Georgina was a delight and the drama was fantastic. I like Nate and Dan as characters, but seeing Nate punch Dan was oddly satisfying since he did deserve it. And yes, Blair's costume was cringey and awful. 2 - 'The Treasure of Serena Madre'. The music in this episode was iconic af. Jason Derulo and Paramore can live rent-free in my head, but I agree that the music did the heavy lifting in this episode. There are some fantastic moments, but nothing will ever beat . . . 1 - 'Blair Waldorf Must Pie'. This episode has everything we love. The flashbacks, the drama, the fun. This episode's storyline is phenomenal, to the point that it is one of my Top 5 favorite episodes of the series. This is the only GG Thanksgiving episode I watch outside of Thanksgiving because it's just that good. Thank you for making this list so I didn't have to. Please make more OG Gossip Girl content. *Subscribed*
