David Andersson died on September 14, 2022. He was 47 years of age. This conversation has been publically available via the Scars and Guitars podcast audio channel since September 2021; however, this is the first time I have published the visual component as I thought it was a fitting tribute to David's legacy as a first-class musician, guitarist and songwriter, in addition to his role as a medical professional, all of which are covered in detail throughout the chat.
David talks about joining Soilwork, his friendship with Soilwork frontman Björn Strid, and how the duo found much to agree upon regarding the non-metallic sounds that inspired The Night Flight Orchestra, from which he mentions his crowning achievements in the epic prog moments in "The Last of the Independent Romantics", and "The Heather Reports"; he says something very poignant about those songs, which I think he'd want people to hear. David also shares his thoughts on the EP A Whisp of the Atlantic, a fantastic collection of tunes, possibly Soilwork's, and David's, magnum opus.
There is a moment in the chat where Bjorn calls David, and he answers and puts him on speaker, and Bjorn and I have an exchange about Ralph Santolla, whom we spoke about on the eve of his death. That was rather eerie, given what has transpired since.
David talks about events that led to a recent mental health episode, so keep in mind this chat happened in September 2021. Finally, the conversation contains a lengthy exchange about Irritable Bowel Syndrome; I share my journey as a sufferer with David, as he is a specialist in the field.
It's a joy to hear him talk about so many topics but also very sad that such a gifted soul is no longer among us.
Godspeed, Dr Dave. You are missed.
