A Conversation With Ian Anderson 1995 A Roots To Branches Tour promotion Excerpts from songs like Valley or Roots To Branches. www.tullianos.com/ jethrotull.prob...
When I was a teen the rock caught my attention. But that was a long time ago. I've been a fan since 1970. And haven't thought of Jethro Tull as a rock band only. Ian Andersen is one of my most admired man..
@@simonw7284 In recent years, Ian Anderson has increasingly reminded me me of Captain Mainwaring. Curmudgeonly, grumpy, cynical and rather pompous, especially with regard to ex-members of Jethro Tull. For example, continuing to use the Jethro Tull name purely for cynical marketing reasons, after he said "Jethro Tull was finished" in 2011 (probably because Ian Anderson solo tickets and albums don't generate that much interest!). For the 50th anniversary tour, he didn't invite any ex-members of the band, but instead just played with his most recent bunch of hired hands. Anderson likening a band to "sports teams who keep the same, name but constantly change personell" really doesn't wash with me. Apart from big money transfers, professional sports teams have to change personell regularly, as it so physical and a relatively short career, with most sportsmen and women having to retire around the age of 35. That isn't the case with professional musicians. Some of them play together for decades. When he "let go" (sacked) guitarist Martin Barre after 42 years, pompous Captain Anderson said something like: "I have no problem with Martin starting his own band and he certainly has my blessing". As if Martin Barre needed his "permission"! I have thought of Anderson as Captain Mainwaring for quite a few years, but I only recently read one story where, several years' ago, a certain ex-Tull keyboard player, while preparing for a tour, was told his services were no longer required (at short notice via phone or text). So, he went on the official Jethro Tull site and pasted a photo of Captain Mainwaring over Anderson's face!
