Hey, not sure if you’ll ever see this comment but I had (half joking) question/s…Who was the bigger goth at Sierra between Lorelei Shannon and yourself; and which of you, would you say, had the more twisted mind? 😂 all in good fun

Just want to say thank you for the games you gave to us through the years. Even the Poirot adaptations shine out from the sea of HOG flicks. The writing is amazing in all GK episodes. My all time favorite computer game is "Sins of the Fathers". Never denied it, never will. Thank you.

Jane's writing is such a treasure to the world of gaming. I wish she would come back to gaming, but even if she never does I appreciate everything she's done. LEGEND!

I can't wait to watch this. I literally grew up on Jane Jensen games and unfortunately it had both a positive and negative effect on me. Positive because I got to experience two of the best written pieces of interactive media ever and negative because I grew up comparing all narratively driven games to her works afterwards and it would be an understatement to say that most never get even to a 10th of what she was able to achieve. Gabriel Knight 2 is especially special; mixing bicurious themes; real history seamlessly into dark fantasy and all whilst being presented with some of the greatest characters; acting; music and presentation. No other game has come close. I seriously hope that one day Jane is able to make another big game because she deserves it

@Entropy I don't think you grasp what I'm talking about when I talk about the brilliance of her writing. There are plenty if CRPG's with great writing, Disco Elysium proves they are still being made. But CRPG's are inspired by tabletop games that lend themselves to good writing because there is usually incredible amount of dialog and space to write. What I love about JJ's writing is that it's mostly grounded. Sure there are werewolves but you could actually replace all of the demons in her story with 'rich people' or people of power and they wouldn't change all that much. Planescape Torment has a talking skull. They aren't comparable.

Gabriel Knight 3 (yes, *3*) is one of my favorite point and click adventure games of all time and I would kill for a remake or at least a remaster that would make it easier to play on modern computers. I can't believe that it's approaching its 25th anniversary :x

Gabriel Knight is still in my top ten favorite game series. I first played Gabriel Knight 1 about a year after it came out. I was still a kid in grade 6 back then. It quickly became my favorite PC game. I grew up playing the GK series, and it's still a game series I play regularly even to this day so many years later. Thank you for creating this series Jane! Some of the best memories I have of growing up is playing these adventure games with my mom, trying to figure out the puzzles and enjoying the stories.

Aside from the Gabriel Knight Trilogy, I was pleased to have the books to read along side the games. The stories are what made the series so suspenseful .

This is fantastic, Curtis! Jane Jensen is such a legend. Kings Quest 6 is easily the best KQ-game, Gabriel Knight is easily one of the best VGA era adventure games, Gabriel Knight 2 is easily one of the best FMV era adventure games, Gabriel Knight 3 is easily one of the best early 3D era adventure games and Gray Matter is easily one of the best modern adventure games. Her games are so unique, and so exceptionally well written and executed. I recently replayed Gray Matter and that game is a masterpiece! It's injustice on a cosmic level that Gray Matter didn't get at least ONE sequel :) Thank you again, Curtis, for this interview!

Sins of the Fathers absolutely blew my mind back in the day. I didn't even know there was a sequel until a couple years ago. Downloaded Beast Within and it also blew my mind, such hilarious, creepy fun, all these years later. Fingers crossed GK4 happens.

Just stumbled upon this interview. But how great to have a spotlight on this incredible series again (and also Phantasmagoria). Such a huge part of my youth. Vertigo Games (Dutch Company) just released 7th Guest VR (Remake). I don't know how it did financially, but it's very much in the spirit of the original. VR is still a niche market (like FMV was back in the day). But the Meta headsets are pretty capable nowadays. So great to see this interview and I would love a remake of the 2nd/3rd one and a new chapter in Gabriel's adventures.

I miss your stories Jane. GK, GK3, GM, Moebius were such wonderful games. I would really like to see a GK4 but I know that's almost impossible to develop such games today. The gaming industry changed so much but I still hope that a project like GK4 will someday be financially viable again. I wish you all the best.

Thanks for another great interview Paul. Regarding Dean's refusal to chat - I can't understand that for the life of me... Unless he's ashamed of what he did, or super-ultra busy, why would someone refuse a 1-hour chat about a work he did that still means so much to people that loved and appreciated what he did...?!

Wow! I just discovered your channel after finishing Immortality and searching for Sam Barlow interviews. Then after those, I discovered who you were! I actually used to own Phantasmagoria 2. Never played part one. Very cool. But my absolute no. 1 adventure game is Gabriel Knight. I've played many Jane Jensen games and even read a few of her books. Judgment Day remains one of the best books I've ever read. Anyway, bottom line, your channel is a gold mine! Subscribed and looking forward to new content.

This interview ruled and it was cool seeing Jane confirm GK2 is a queer game. It made me happy that she's very busy writing novels and also wants to make another game sometime, and not what I expected either. I assumed it would be another adventure game or visual novel (which I also enjoy) but VR would be very different and cool too.

That's a shame that she never played Phantasmagoria 2....I thought it was very well written (far and away a better game than Phantasmagoria 1.) Jane has written some pretty heavy hitters herself so her take on it would have been welcome. She pretty much saved the King's Quest series when she was added to KQ6; especially after the giant turd that was KQ5. KQ6 became (IMHO) and still is the best KQ game. And Gabriel Knight 3 is, of course, among my all-time favorites.

Great interview, thanks! Since you mention modern youtube-based choose-your-own-adventure projects, you might like this talk by game designer Brian Moriarty about the earliest ones: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M6_lys8vYLA.html (Brian is an excellent storyteller and all of his talks are amazing) It might also be fun to interview some of the modern innovators in the field, such as Sam Barlow (Her Story), or the Contradiction team

I only recently got around to playing Gabriel Knight (first two titles), and I have one question... I don't know if anyone will spot it here, but: Why is Gabriel Knight such a dick? Serious question. Most protagonists (like, well, Grace, Guybrush Threepwood, both Phantasmagorias) are presented as pleasant people to some degree, but I just don't get that from Gabriel. (Besides trying to stop people getting murdered, which in itself only signifies 'not evil'.) So, why? I can understand the argument that Gabriel could have been a vehicle for social commentary, or self-inserts, but that's a lot of assuming on my part.
