A Conversation with Paul Masvidal 

I really would love to hear or see a Tribute to Maestro Sean Malone at some point, if you ever felt like it. I love him so much, and I've never met him, but I feel some kind of Spirit/Soul connection/deep appreciation for him. We both know that "Master Sean" as I love to call him is not nearly as "Known or Widely Exalted" as we both feel that he should be. Even Paul compares him to Bach and Jaco, which is insane for a musician like him to say, so you know he deserves to be "given his flowers" so that the World Knows who He Is/Was❤ I only am "bugging" you about this because you are someone who is not only an amazing musician, but I feel like you have many experiences in your tenure as his student/protege, if I'm not mistaken.

Man you had really good questions for Paul! I found out a lot of things listening to this. And i had no idea Reinert had a vocal part 😮

Saw Cynic on Focus tour and was hooked. Sent fan letter to get on "mailing list" (pre Internet era!) Paul sent me a fan flier/zine thing with a handwritten post-it note thanking me with perfectly personalized references to my letter. I treasured that silly post-it note as if it was penned by an A-list celebrity!

Great conversation. Cynic are incredible. Focus is an all time classic. Awesome to hear from Paul. Human is my favorite Death album. Ascension Codes is my favorite album of 2021.

Thank you for sharing this. I just found your channel through a comment you left on a Sean Malone video, and you've just uploaded this. I love that, and I love hearing Paul share his inside perspective on the history of Cynic. Their music changed my life, without exaggeration, down to the lyrical concepts that would manifest in my life in ways that I couldn't imagine. Rest in Peace Sean Malone and Sean Reinert. It still hurts. Godspeed Paul! 🙏💗💪

I finally got around to checking this whole interview out! Loved it Alex. You pointed out a ton of things from Focus that I didn't even realize and it is one of my favorites of all time! Nice job man. Stoked to check out your music in Forms down the way too! Cheers!

Paul is correct, Symbolic is the Death album after Individual Thought Patterns. Individual came out in 93 and Symbolic in 95 for reference.
