"Never living in the moment"--I STRONGLY relate to that. Nothing in my life when I was a JW took place in the present tense. It was either being trapped by the legacy of my relatives or everything was all about "the new system" and "paradise earth". After awhile it felt like nothing and no one was real...because what was supposedly to come was the focus.

She brings up such good points about how perpetually panicked you are as a JW. EVERYTHING is a danger, legitimate and otherwise. you can't even pick out a movie to watch without the potential for extreme danger. Also, that danger is layered. It's dangerous to those who are truly devout because they fear having their faith harmed, but it's also dangerous to those who aren't so devout, perhaps not even believers at all, because they could become labeled 'bad association,' or even worse be shunned by their own family and close friends. That's the real danger, how the cult is structured to trap you emotionally in some way ,at every level of involvement, from the very bottom to the top. Just my thoughts on this wonderful woman's comments. Thanks for your contributions Lloyd and Sarah!

I like how Sarah extends the discussion to religion in general as being a problem.

There are a lot of churches and community organizations that foster a sense of community, even an intimate/insular sense of community, without breaking up families, promoting hostility towards the world, discouraging higher education, and so on.

Good point Yoni, there are good people in this world and some troubled people. The JW way of looking at things is generally toward condemnation and negativity. It is taking me time to get out of this bad habit. Thanks

Just like me I was an immigrant to the States and was attracted by this "sense of community." I'm also a writer and Huffington Post contributor and many other platforms. Nice meeting Sarah.

Similarly, I may have been considered partly 'inactive' for several years and once moved countries where the influence was limited due to accessibility to meetings and partly language being a barrier, I actually had time to think for myself...past several years been deprogramming self! Big struggle! Thanks for sharing, I really appreciate the time and effort put into all activism. Thanks a million

Blood Transfusions were always in issue for my mother too; she wouldn't let me carry one of those blood cards just in case. Not sure how i'd have reacted in a life/death scenario when i was younger.

Anna Hume it's a good question indeed. I'm willing to bet that a fairly sizeable % of people are just JW on the outside, but don't really believe it inside - they just never question and get away with what they can

I had a blood transfusion as a child and as an adult I rarely get sick with the flu, so I received the accumulated immunity that was in the blood. -- Having said that, we now know that some cancers are as a result of viruses and that is concerning for me as I got the transfusion from my father who did, indeed, die of cancer. Even so - the thought of receiving a transfusion creeps me out because I wouldn't even think about going up to a complete stranger and French kissing them; it's too gross to contemplate. Likewise I do believe that blood transfusions - especially in this day and age - is too gross to even think about when it is mainly the poor and desperate among us who "donate" blood for a few dollars a pint. And then this blood is mixed with the blood of countless other donors into vats and then resold to the medical community at highly inflated costs. Ew.

Really great video Lloyd. Sarah delivered her points clearly and nicely. I loved how she advocated for free speech and called out the terms hate speech and islamophobia, while still being respectful. If she could get on a program like David Pakman or Rubin Report, the exjw cause could go very far

I live in Italy too (Liguria), and the JWs are all over Genoa and occasionally sighted in Chiavari. They're easily identifiable by their carts and stands.

Sarah was introduced to JW when she was 6 and got out - after years of doubting the doctrine, she says - when she was 19. Never fully brainwashed, it seems. I was born into it. My family was very devoted. My father was an elder. I got out when I was 14. I had doubts from a very young age, perhaps 8 or 9. I mean, the whole religion was cartoonish, a fairytail, a quase science fiction story, a play with numbers, call it what you want. Even a normal child could see that. Yet so many do not see that. This is obviously due to the process of brainwashing, which I escaped for some reason or another. Why do some minds escape and others not? What promotes resilience? What does psychology say? By what means, if any, can individuals and society counter dangerous brainwashing? Would love to see a video or discussion on this very important issue.

Hi Zachary! Yes, sorry about that. A number of factors have contributed to the documentary taking longer to put together than I anticipated. It is genuinely in the works, though, and I hope to have it up next month at the latest. I apologise for the hold-up!

I just watched your other video about suicide and how JW supposedly view suicide - as self murder. But if someone knowingly refuses medical help then how is that not viewed as suicide? And how is convincing someone to kill themselves through lack of medical help any different from being accomplice to murder?

It seems as though there's a requisite 'blood transfusion refuser success story' either in or known of in every congregation. A friend of mine was the success story in a congregation I was in and while I don't doubt the gist of her story, I know these things can get exaggerated & blown out of proportion because of the praise heaped upon them.

Great interview, Sarah looks like Shakira, I see a resemblance of Lebanese beauty. Interesting points, but despite journalism and all the hard work bad things in the jdubs and other religions keep taking place. The law is too lenient on perpetrators. It's good Sarah realized and got out. I was only studying at 19 with jdubs.

Good interview, but I'm skeptical about the religion being on "borrowed time" claim. Even if we can grant that traditional concepts of religion are dying (which I'm not sure we can), there is still the problem of the religious mindset that we find in the social justice warrior mentality and other politically motivated movements. It's religion, but we don't call it religion.

John why, there are people who carry blood and die in it ??Answer because the blood is not all, the same you realize there are several types of blood. Sometimes it causes several problems, imagine if that person was a drug addict or something

Kevin Willis if she’s your girlfriend you should be proud she gets complements on her beauty, not insecure. if your not her boyfriend and have that response I guess I apologize for being a flaming heterosexual, always have been, always will be, if your not into women, I won’t judge, carry on happily forward! She’s a beautiful woman, and others have commented similarly, hope she saw my comment and was flattered, not offended. Go hug your significant other and tell him he’s gorgeous, I bet he appreciates the complement!
