On this episode of This Past Weekend, Theo Von chats with coroner Toby Savoy about what it’s like being a death investigator in today’s world. They talk about about why he got into the business of corpses, the job no rookie wants to get, bloated bodies in the bayou, his take on the opioid crisis, what he’s learned after 18 years on the job, and why you can never really trust your cat…

Toby helped my family through a really tough time. He drove out of his jurisdiction just to meet with all of my family in one sitting. Some in my family were in denial and hard to deal with. The simple yet interesting conection between these two makes this conversation go so fluidly. Theo has incredible ability to create bits from really bizzare scenes. THEO!! I lost my older brother to a sudden widow maker heart attack he was young fit that man ate healthy every day he ran around and played frisbee golf and hockey since he was a teenager I don’t think you could pinch an inch and he was gone one day that was it. So I being her sister freaked out ran around to some heart specialist and I found out that there was a test called a CAC CALCIUM TEST. I scored a zero and it’s such a relief when you get your test results because even if it was 100 that I scored they would put me on immediate medicine and I won’t just fall dead the next day! Please everybody that reads this please please please go get tested it’s so easy it’s in a hospital setting most of them you go inside a CT scan machine and you’re in and out in like 15 minutes it will save lives. PLEASE go get one and tell everyone you love!

Also such great insight and tips, really wish I would've heard the sids info before the first year of my babys life cause it would've saved me many sleepless nights. Crazy also the walking against traffic thing. I was raised in a area with mountains/curvy roads and as a kid I was always told to walk against traffic(90s/early 2000s thing, going for walks on long rural roads was just something to do lol). I did not realize that was a regional thing and I am so glad he pointed out how dangerous walking with traffic is! And travelling during the holidays!! That will stick with me for sure! Yo Theo, I have a pretty heavy personal experience with the “Tianeptine” stuff y’all mentioned around 1:44:16. A close friend of my fiancée died, it basically took away my late childhood, and tore so many lives apart here in Alabama & surrounding states. This is the first time I’ve ever heard it being mentioned publicly like this. The doctors don’t know about, paramedics, rehabs, etc. nobody talks about this stuff. Has to be the most difficult thing I’ve ever been through, but I overcame it & took control. The fact that no one talks about it makes you feel alone.
