It is seen that when there is a chase after pleasure, pain comes. Also when running away from pain, pain magnifies. So then one must Find a place within himself, where there is no preference, no wanting, no needing. No want to repeat a pleasurable experience, nor the avoidance of a painful one.
Its really amazing where God has led me. I lived most of my life in the world of "whats in it for me Christianity." The churches i attended were always about seeking signs and wonders. The idea that we all had supernatural gifts that we could wield like harry potter characters. And here i am now, embracing a teaching of accepting hardships, expecting nothing from God in return for our worship, etc. My old church told me that if I had enough faith, God would bless me with worldy riches and an easy life. My new church tells me that when i grow closer to God, i will suffer. And for some reason, i have comfort in that. It is truly humbling.
There is a wonderful Orthodox Icon you may have seen. It has Christ on the left side of the icon, carrying the cross across His back, on the way up the mount to be crucified. On the right side of the icon are a number of recognizable Orthodox Saints, each with a heavy cross strewn across each their backs, following Christ up the mount. "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me."
How do I find a church like this? All the churches around me seem so superficial and self obsessed. Almost like they use God as a status for themselves or to excuse themselves of any wrongdoing.
@@lahmsauce5759 there were two orthodox churches within traveling distance from me, and the closest one was the one I ended up going to. If I had to point to its benefits, I'd say the most important one is that we have an amazing priest. The man relishes teaching the Word and is exceedingly intelligent. Another great thing I enjoy is that a majority of the church I go to are converts. I've heard stories where newcomers go to a church where everyone is ethnically Greek or Russian and the parishioners weren't exactly welcoming. So I'd say the most important thing is that you can trust your priest. If you can do that, everyone else is background noise. We are there for God after all. Let those who are prideful work out their own salvation with fear and trembling.
Yes that is so true sometimes we suffer because we end up praying more to god Jesus said come closer to god and he will come closer to you reject worldly things and embrace godly things god bless you
father, I am looking forward to your teaching, currently suffering due to my past sins. I've repented but struggling with the day to day of life. But I never forgot to say Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner
and whenever you notice that you are trying to sin, say Lord Jesus Christ please help me, give me strength to not do this. ( the this, is whatever sin you are trying to sin ). God bless you brother. stay strong in Christ !
@pixelotetm thank you for your kind words, I've opened my eyes and rejected my sinful life and how it corrupted my soul. I'm still suffering with the consequences of it even though i have repented from my heart. I pray our saviour shows me grace, this world is bankrupt and the devil has kept us in bondage
It is true that when we attempt to repent and turn to God, it displeases the demons. But God restricts them, if He didn’t, we would all be dead. However, there is also an experience most people have when they seek Orthodoxy of God testing our desire for Him, offering us the opportunity to show how much we truly want Him. God bless you.
Please pray for me and my family! I'm a Protestant inquirer who now wants to become Orthodox. My grandmother however isn't on the same page. God bless you all and thank you Father for helping lead me to the fullness of the truth ☦️
I was in the exact same boat you are. I was going to a presby church and was dissatisfied. I'm now a catechumen in a wonderful Orthodox church. Keep going, you're on the right path!
Often people come around after the event. As the Holy Spirit moves in your life, it will eventually in theirs but this life, is your journey. It took over 20 years for my sister to acknowledge my faith (you could have knocked me down with a feather!).
Attended my first orthodox service today and encourage anyone to do the same if you haben’t done it yet. Coming from a protestant background it was quite scary but Pray to God and he Will help.
You mustn't relise that the counter-reformation was set up to destroy the protestant reformation churches with false doctrines and scandel and I'd says it working.
Father, your words move my heart. How far I am from salvation, how much my sins obscure my view. Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner! Father, be blessed! 🙏☦️
I'm not Orthodox but I love the Lord Jesus Christ and want to say thanks for a solid teaching. This was a good word. Especially the part about reducing the Christian faith to a self help system. The Lord bless you.
My mother has stage 4 bowel cancer and the medical professionals say she may not have long to live. I ask if you could please pray for my mother Anna who has recently found orthodox faith through my brother and the holy spirt. Thank you Father Spyridon
Fr Spyridon, I was recently baptized into the Orthodox church and I would like to thank you for all the videos you have been putting out for so long. They are uplifting, and beautiful reminders of what are the most important things in this short life. I thought that I knew what peace was, but it was not until the Holy Mysteries that I realized what peace truly is. I have learned greatly from your words, may Christ continue to use you to speak His truth. God bless!
The infantile spiritual state is spot on. That’s what the hypercharismatics, Pentecostal snake handlers and other evangelical group sell to new Christian’s . The liturgical church has the most beautiful spirituality. And edification I’ve ever experienced.
Glad fr you recovered. I felt the call to Russian orthodox over 30 years ago as an Eastern catholic back then. I finally am ROCOR and your videos are in part of this. The fruits of The Holy Spirit are at work.
Thank you Father, your videos have been monumental in me joining the church. Today was my first time attending the Divine Liturgy as a catechumen and my best friend even decided to convert with me!
@@harrysachz5408 Thanks brother, I’m at peace for the first time in 25 years. And thanks, I’ll always love twin peaks. May God bless you and your family☦️!
Someone once said reading the Bible is like a mirror to our sins. By that definition, we must be transformed in the likeness of Christ. What a beautiful message Fr. Spyridon.
A real marriage, a real friendship...to truly know that you love that one, to truly know that you are loved by that one is what the relationship is all about...we know in our hearts that counterfeit cannot replicate this, that would be a self delusion... Let us be genuine and embrace the joy and pain, the sunshine and rain. That is real and saving. 🙏☦️❤️
i love these videos and this channel, i struggle a lot with lust, but reading the bible and watching these videos makes my temptation go away, i went a month clean from fap once, and im trying to quit for good
Stop counting, start praying (more). Be the person who doesn't self harm, not someone who hasn't for a time. I speak entirely from personal experience in this matter, may God forgive me if I do not speak truth. You will not become free if you recognize yourself as a sinner in abstinence. You must accept that the sin does not define you and move from it. Then it will be harder to return to it. It will actually be difficult to desire it, let alone follow through. You did 30 days. That's very good. You can do it. I am over a year and a 3rd with no desire. (You can count backwards later for times like these)
I can really identify with this. Untill i found orthodox christianity even though i new christianity to be true it felt as though it was lacking something. Im hoping to join a church soon but its difficult i almost feel like im being stopped supernaturally at this point. Thanks for the video.
At the risk of being irrelevant if there is some misunderstanding on my part, I would say one thing (since it’s apparently common anyway): You are stepping into another world. Do not be dismayed if the path appears difficult, or even if things are seemingly worse than before. It happens. With faith, humility and fear, press on toward the goal and prove your desire to be with Christ in His Church regardless of what or how many obstacles appear (that will work out for our good if we have the right disposition). I certainly cannot regret seeing it through. Forgive me if I wasted your time with something you never had in mind. Good day!
Yep repentance is most important, these pride filled religious spirit people never want to admit their wrong doings..it's sad to see...amen thanks for the word 🙏
as i draw closer and closer to a breakthrough. a breakthrough to stop self pleasure and to find a place in my mind where i feel safe. my constant falling back on my sins and old ways, i always find faith and the fire in my chest burns stronger with each time i fail. i just wont quit this battle but i need help.
That sun ray is tripping me! God and our sweet Chirst must be pleased with you father and the Holy Ghost is very strong in you for you have inmense wisdom to share. All praises and glory to HIM WHO IS and rules forever in heavens! ❤🔥
Father Spyridon, so glad to see you well again! We’ve been praying for you. This message was a God send for me today. Thank you! Please pray for us poor sinners🙏☦️
Great video, Father Spyridon . It is yet another mystery that Christ calls to become like small children, and yet infantile spirituality is to be much the opposite of this, stuck in our narcissism, self-righteous, and worldly endeavors. Glad to see you are healing as well. God bless.
Thank you. Recently started to identify with things of this world. Forgetting that things of this world are temporary. Seeking the rewards in heaven is what its about.
no, seeking reward is what he’s telling you to avoid. Being a christian is not to seek the reward of the afterlife. Live for Jesus Christ, repent for your sins, and one day when your life ends you are promised your place alongside him in heaven. Do not live for your place, live for Jesus. Do his will, because he sacrificed everything out of his love for you.
I would be honored to my core if I could meet this man and be blessed by father spyridon thank you for your videos and everything you have to say you make me a stronger Christian and person nothing but love from the U.S thank you
In the quietude of prayer with the weight of my cross. I draw nearer to his perfection. However the World with its multitude of distractions,: is a daily reminder, how I fall short of his standard. How Important his guidance is and its place at the forefront of my daily walk. prayers for all christians being attacked for speaking his truth. Amen
Thank you Fr.Spyridon for this amazing sermon. Please give us an update about your health condition after the heart surgery. I pray for your fast recovery.
I have been a Reformed Baptist/Calvanist since I accepted Christ almost 20 years ago but I have been confronted w/some uncomfortable truths of Protestantism in light of finding Orthodoxy. There is a lot I don’t understand about the Orthodox Church and I still have a lot of questions but I yearn for God and His truth no matter where that leads me. Lately, I feel like He has lead me to the Orthodox Church. I just want to be as close to Christ as possible and live for Him as best as I can. Please pray for me!
I am ashamed to admit i do not love God enough to completely disregard my "needs" and wants, even in prayer. The desire for gifts and relief are always there bubbling inside of me until i finally ask God to bless me with them. Your words and those of hieromonk Seraphim Rose really bring that forward. If we lived as truly devout Christians, this wicked world would certainly destroy us. Thank you for wisdom, Fr. Spyridon! I pray God has mercy on us sinners and bless us so we can come to love him more fully
WHAR A WONDERFUL HOMILY DEEP PROFOUND TEACHING.DEEPLY APPRECIATE TO LIVE A TRUE CHRISTIAN LIFE IS IMPOSSIBLE.DON T BE A HYPOCRITE OH,DEAR LORD HAVE PITY OF US
Thank you, Father Spyridon, for this rich and truthful message on spiritual maturity in our Christian faith. It's nice to see you feeling better. God bless you, and thank you for these videos and the books you have written. 🙏
God's timing is perfect recently with his help I've managed to get over my anguish but after beating it it kinda felt empty that's because i wasn't seeking him continually thank you father spyridon as always
