Fernando Pessoa is probably the most famous Portuguese poet still to this day, his writing is absolutely beautiful! I'm from Portugal, and while we need to study him in school, he is definitely one of those authors who makes you want to pick up his writings even outside of class. I hope you enjoy your time with the Book of Disquiet! I haven't read it yet in its totality but we studied some passages of it in class and they were what I enjoyed the most from Pessoa (that book is supposed to be written by his semi-heteronym Bernardo Soares). His poetry is gorgeous too, though! I particularly enjoy how each heteronym has their own specific poetry style, so you might enjoy some more than others. Pessoa was undoubtedly a master of language for sure.

hi from Argentina! Agustina Bazterrica actually came out with her second novel last year and i think the english translation came out/is coming out this year. Its called Las Indignas (The Unworthy in english). Its very short and weird and i highly recommend it!

I experience the same thing when thrifting! I really want a book and usually I find it. I feel like it’s a small way the universe says I see you and I got your back.

I really loved “The Garden of Eden.” I’ve read it last summer while researching for a book I’m writing. I wish more people read it! It’s good to read during hot summer days ☺️

Grapes of Wrath is what happens when an Irish bookshop owner and his crackpot assistant end up with nothing to drink during one fateful weekend in London, and decide to take up their distant acquaintance's offer to house sit, whose home therein they chance upon a dozen vintages of fine wine, one of which is destined for the Pope, the very same one from which the wrath ensues. Absolute stunner, must read.

Girl, that supposed "mould" is the texture of chipped pottery on the photo where glazing is missing. Don't fret. Enjoy your book.

so about the odyssey translation! Maybe you were thinking about the Iliad? Wilson translated that too and it came out earlier this year or last year I believe. People seem to have strong opinions on her and as a classicist I am sort of tired about all the debates about wich is the 'proper' translation. Go with the one that speaks to you the most. While not my absolute favorite I found Wilson's Odyssey (haven't read the Illiad from her yet) very readable and it probably is the version I have recommended the most.

Words are hard 😅💖 I just found your channel and really enjoyed this video! (side note: I wipe all my 'new to me' books with antibacterial wipes, and it's gross how filthy some used books are!) I love the synchronicity of your book wants and the universe ✨ long may it last! I've had some success too recently, with one find that would have saved me $23 for book I had just bought brand new. I only have Crime & Punishment by Dostoevsky on my shelf to read. But I need to finish The Count of Monte Cristo first and War & Peace. ... and I've got a lot of other classics 📚😅

hi! dostoyevsky is a difficult author, brothers karamazov is famous for being a difficult book, it's philosophical, slow-paced, with many characters etc. start with white nights, it's a novella by him, you'll get used to his writing, then try crime and punishment, and then I'll go and read brothers karamazov. trust me. if you read brothers first, I'm not sure if you'll ever want to read anything by him again.
